1.
Aye, tried that. Nice set of Sennheisers, twiddled the knobs... it sounded cobblers. MMDV.
Ha. The tone definatley is in the ears of the beholder. Guess it just works for me. Try one if you can, Eight. you may dig it, or think I'm talking complete sh*te.
2. Interesting to see such a polarised response. I love my amplug. I use a set of Sennhiser 202 headphones with it, and with my P bass '(79, with 9 month old flats) it sounds thick and fat, but I do keep my tone control rolled all the way down, as I generally find it sounds messy with the tone up on a fender, but that's me. I did try a pandora, and didn't like all the other stuff on it. Just wanted the sound of my bass, with no crap on it, within seconds. The secret of the amplug is decent headphones, and setting the gain correctly. YMMV.
3. Vox AmPlug? About £35 to £40. Sounds great too, you'll always wanna use it for practice. I don't use my rigs at home anymore, I just use that little gaget.
4. Oh god, the power tube overdrive with the Marshall and the Vintage would be quite a scary one. The Simms is 100 watt, but valve, and I'd use that for smaller rooms. I'm using an Ashdown ABM 300 watt 1x15 combo for smaller gigs at the moment, but I just crave that valve sound. Nothing else does it for me. The Simms is currently in need of repair, but is apparently silly clean sounding, with loads of headroom... Guess it will be suck and see.
5. My bank was hoping you wouldn't say that... As soon as I've sold a few bits, I'm ordering both! Alex, get ready... A compact and vintage, both with cloth grills...
6. Ok, so I'm new here, but... I'm so very tempted by the Vintage, and maybe a Compact as well. I'm using a Marshall VBA 400. All valve, 400 watt monster, and soon to also be using a really old Simms-Watts 100. I'm planning on having the Vintage and the Marshall as one rig, and the Simms Watts and Compact as another, but being ported cabs, I'm a little bit nervous about the cab getting a little "flabby" from the valves and the sheer amount of bottom end I like. Someone please tell me this isn't a problem? Many thanks, Andy
