I saw Alice for the 1st time on Monday Night 21st Oct at Hammersmith, great venue but always a bugger to get to from the Herts/Essex border but finally found a good route by train/tube at long last. The Meffs were not bad a lot of energy and noise for just 2 people, a punk version of the White stripes, loved there cover of the prodigy, I enjoyed them. Glen Matlock well I don't want to be to harsh, he was on rhythm guitar and vocals, didn't really do it for me , and they even attempted the sacred stuff by finishing with a awful version of Pretty Vacant, but that's just my opinion. Wow Alice was amazing the whole band was incredible, the stage set and lighting, was just superb. Alice may not of spoken to the crowd but he interacted throughout and I felt thoroughly engrossed in the proceedings. Great set list although he didn't play my favourite Alice tune but you cant have everything so it was still a treat to be there. Loved the theatrics and different costumes Alice adorned. Loved the closing version of Schools out mixed with another brick in the wall. Alice was absolutely fantastic amazing energy and singing for a man of his age, would definitely see him again. Top night out.

I saw this on ebay for 149.00 I know it's a amp head and I don't have a cabinet but it has headphone socket and aux in (for tablet/phone) so I could use this with just headphones until i got a cabinet or does it have to be connected to a cabinet before I can use headphones ? Cheers for all the help and advice ð -
I was really pleased when I found out it was Hal Cruttenden as I've seen him before. Oh wow Stewart Lee is awesome I haven't seen him live yet but he is on my list .

I saw Englebert Humperdink a few weeks ago at the London Palladium. Was really good and his band were great to. Only downside total lack of leg room in the peasant seats up in the gods my wife who is only 5ft 2 struggled with the leg room to. Really enjoyed the bass players solo to . Really enjoyable night and a comedian as the opening act.

Opinions/Advice Much Appreciated on Amp for Newbie
The Attic Man replied to The Attic Man's topic in Amps and Cabs
Yeah I have the Blackstar version of the headphone amp I like it. My Peavey amp that I got with the bass just doesn't do much for me and its only small. I'm enjoying looking/ hunting for a amp and also learning valuable info from you wonderful people. I'm still considering a fender rumble or a black star unity as well as perhaps a amp head/cabinet option I'm in no rush which is a good thing I saw a amp head on eBay that had a headphone socket I think it was a ampeg I might of spelt the brand wrong I'm rushing typing this at work lol -

Thank you so much. I shall spend my free hours surfing the net for a 2nd hand amp head preferably with headdphone socket. That sounds interesting making a speaker cabinet I'd obviously need speaker(s) to put in I bet there's info on the Internet if I search. Thanks so much for your advice greatly appreciated ð ð -

Thanks so much I think I can get my head around that ð really appreciate the time you took to write that all. So in theory would I be OK to buy a amp head on its own and just plug headphones in or do I need a cabinet as well. Sorry if it sounds stupid to ask I'm just not knowledgeable at all. Cheers in advance. -
Opinions/Advice Much Appreciated on Amp for Newbie
The Attic Man replied to The Attic Man's topic in Amps and Cabs
Thanks for the lovely words, much appreciated. I'm finding the search for an amp absolutely baffling and I've even been looking at bass heads and cabinets but I get totally confused when they try to explain the ohms etc, its all like dark arts to me. Would I be right in saying I shouldn't consider a head/cabinet combo as that's way to advanced for a total novice like myself ? I was thinking could I get away with buying a 2nd hand Bass head and just running headphones through that until I get the funds to add a cabinet , or should I just continue to look for a combination amp as in the Fender Rumble 100. I'm finding it very confusing , (doesn't take much to confuse me.) Thank you all for the words of wisdom, best regards Dave. -

Hi again guys thanks so much for all your input advice and kind words. I'm spending loads of time watching video reviews and reading up on amps, I do like the fender rumble, what's your thoughts on the Blackstar unity or the boss katana amp ? I must say the videos I have heard of the fender rumble, it sounds really good, I am hopefully going to try and visit a store or 2 so I can actually listen to one . best regards Dave -

Thanks so much for your input, really appreciate it. Yeah don't think I can afford a 100W unless I buy 2nd hand or save for ages ðĪĢ very good point about the Studio 40 and i.e. more to go wrong, I may go down the route of Blackstar/Fender/Orange with no modelling. I definitely need to actually try some out, I'm in no rush so will wont buy on the impulse unless i see an absolute bargain 2nd hand . Cant ever see me being good enough for a band (although i would love it) once again thanks so much for your words of wisdom / experience. -

Hi all, sorry I don't post very often but I know when needed you wonderful bass heads have the expertise, wisdom and know how. Basically I'm a old (53) newbie been attempting to learn since last October, I was gifted a bass (a early 90's Encore) and a small peavey amp. I've purchased a Blackstar headphone amp that I like. But I think the speaker is going in the peavey amp. I'm thinking of possibly purchasing a amp and would appreciate your imput. In no particular order I'm thinking of . Blackstar Unity . Fender Rumble Studio 40 . Orange Crush Bass 50 Combo . Positive Grid Spark Black I'm considering to go down the used route to try and save a few quid hopefully, I'm not in desperate need of it but i want to get some gear ðĪĢ. Thanks for your help. Dave

I've gone the other way round, I started as a not to bad ukulele player (similar as it has 4 strings , though I have got a 8 string uke ðĪĢ)but last year at the grand old age of 52 decided to have a bash at attempting to learn /play bass. Wish I had done it years ago, I've absolutely fallen in love with it and really enjoy it, just got to find some people to play with now as playing with others really helps you learn. But obviously i feel very self conscious as I'm not particularly good. I can also play a few chords on guitar and murder a harmonica and my singing is ok I've been told I've got a nice singing voice but I'm not to sure about that ðĪĢ

great thread and answers, really sorry I've been very quiet on here since I joined last year. I've been looking for people to jam, learn from as I'm a total newbie and not very good at playing, but would love to jam, so I find it hard to find anyone as I'm obviously not good enough for a band. Once again so sorry I've been so quiet on here, I've been juggling practicing and doing my allotment ð

Hi all I'm promently a ukulele player been playing for 14 years. Started dabbling with Bass last October. I've had quite alot of ukes pass through my hands. My holy grail has always been to own a vintage Martin Soprano ukulele. I love sopranos and am a bit of a tradionalist I prefer them with friction tuners. I've also got a 8 string tenor a baritone and a electric uke and 2 lovely hawian Mele sopranos. I used to belong to a local ukulele society it was fun played a lot of gigs with them even a local music festival where we opened the day for top loader headline. We even occasional had shena Easton guitarist play with us he is an avid user. Now I have the bug for bass guitar and I'm really enjoying it. Love this site as well really nice people on here .
