Hi S'manth thanks for the warm welcome. Yes I've neglected my ukes of late. I should dust them down and have a play. I'm really enjoying the bass. Oh that get together looks fantastic bit far for me unfortunately. But hopefully I can attend something in the future. I know when I started out on ukulele meeting others and those more experienced really helped. Once again many thanks π -

Thank you so much π and very much appreciated. Yeah that is my thoughts. The money I save buying the encore I can pay for a set up and hunt around for a pick up I'd love to change the pick guard to would love a tortoise shell effect one π I know it doesn't help the sound but I love tortoise shell -

Yes strings are a whole new ball game I know well from my time on ukulele forums the great string debates. It's all a personal choice isn't it. The strings are old on the encore you can see they are well used. But they sound fine to my untrained ears and I have no problem fretting them . I'm avoiding the whole bebacle of string choice and changing them I've got my headed planted firmly in the ground π -

Thank you. Yeah I know nothing about setting it up or strings. I'm very tempted to keep it. I would like someone to give it a once over and deffo needs a clean then again as I'm immersing into the world of bass i read about James jammerson never cleaning his bass as he believed it added to the funk. Thanks for your help π and I'm loving attempting to play it . -

Thanks guys appreciate your thoughts. I've been alerted to some reasonable priced pick ups. I've got about Β£100 quid to spend so the 50 I would save from buying the encore I was going to use that on pick ups. Unfortunately I went to a local music store they only had stuff well out of my price range. Once again many thanks π -
Hi all and firstly thank you for the warm welcome. As stated in my introduction post. Totally new to the world of bass so I know nothing so please forgive my ignorance. I've been leant a Encore Bass and a Peavy Bass amp to noodle and teach myself. Really enjoying it 8 weeks in. Anyway the lovely person who loaned me the Bass and Amp said I can buy them for a total of Β£50 Now is this a good deal I think it is but I do also really fancy a Harley Benton brand new from Thomman I'm not to fussed about having a amp as I live in a flat and when I (attempt) to play I wear earphones. So if I did buy a Harley Benton I would also purchase one of those headphone amps . I've included some photos of the encore and the amp. I've read on here that the older encores (made in india) aren't that bad of a Bass i know they are budget basses but I'd read that the old encores although a heavy beast are not to bad. I was thinking if I did keep the encore the money saved from purchasing a Harley benton I could buy some better pick ups and get a good service done on the old girl. Anyway I eagerly await your thoughts and input. I'm off to murder some tunes now. Cheers all .OK

HI Sandy Thanks for the reply. Yeah I thought about uke bass a few years ago. But I've been offered this encore bass and a peavy amp for 50 quid I might buy it I've been lucky to of been leant it to play on. I've read good things about these Indian made encore bass's. I wad wondering what other gear I should get someone said about getting a compressor pedal. Yes Friday I'm in love I love rocking out to that also attempting some zz top looked at some iron maiden stuff but the bpm scared me π. Any way thank you all for the warm welcome and I look forward to being on this forum . Have a great weekend .

Hello all. So glad i found this forum and really looking forward to delving in and hopefully learning some stuff π I'm Dave 52 (rapidly approaching 53) and about 7 weeks ago i thought i would try and have a go at learning bass. Ive been playing the ukulele for about 12 years to an alright level and also fumble my way around a acoustic guitar sort of π€£. But After watching the Paul Ryder Podcast i thought i would like to have a go at attempting the bass guitar. Luckily one of my bosses leant me his old encore bass and amp and i have been having a bash on that for the last 7 weeks. I do find it a strectch for my hands but i guess the more i practice hopefuuly it becomes better. I can fumble my way through "TNT" by AC/DC and The Jack and also love playing Fridy im In Love by The Cure. Oh i Cna also play Sit Down by James and Public Image by Pil and Peaches by the Stranglers. I love music, listening and attempting to play it. I hva a very eclectic range of taste which i think is healthy. I also work for a Electronics company that makes high end Hi Fi equipment. I atually work for the deptmartment that makes record cartridges and styli. I also love Vinyl. Anyway I have been offered the Encore Bass and Amp for Β£50 im tempted Right back to work for me. Look forward to chatting and hopefully gaining some knowledge and advice from you lovely people. Best regards and sorry for the bad spelling fingers ache from playing Bass π Dave π€
