1. Aye I started out on bass but then a friend's band needed a guitarist so I quickly taught myself the basics on that.
2. some very nice recent additions! here our latest one from my recent band. was last minute so not quite bricks but shutters! i'm the one with the most prominent beer gut
3. couple of old ones from my first ever band i've just found...
4. Everytime I pop on basschat over the last day or two I find this thread, check my bank balance and then a little piece of me dies inside. In the bizarre chance that this hasn't sold in the next few weeks i'll be all over this like a nasty rash. Good luck with the sale. Kev
5. Does OBBM have a a shop or is it just a special Basschat service he provides?
6. I play in a band called Soviet Disco. There's four of us in the band and we're all from Redcar/Marske in Teesside. Me and the drummer are massive Radiohead fans, our singer loves Donovan and our lead guitarist listens to all sorts of stuff when he's not playing Mr Steel at various steel plans around the country. You can hear us here: Soviet Disco on Myspace
7. I wish one of my band members would make a bit more effort before a gig rather than looking like he's borrowed his Dad's best "going out" shirt. Don't necessarily want to have a "style" or owt but just a bit of awareness and forward thinking would be welcomed!
8. I played one of these just before Christmas and loved it. I'd shop around though as there's a few places online selling them for £499-519 edit: GAK & Soundslive
9. I'm going to have to do some serious back of the couch money hunting when I get in from work tonight. I've been after one of these for a while. edit: aaargh north east!
10. The intro to Punk Song by BRMC is what did it for me
11. Once at a gig my bass was on it's stand right at the back of the stage (behind the curtain) when the support bands bassist bust a string. I was stood there and saw him put his bass down and disappear somewhere, I assumed he'd gone to grab his spare only to find him come back out from behind the curtain with my bass! Cheeky little f***er I was tempted to climb up on stage and knock the little sh*t out - if he'd have asked I wouldn't have minded that much but this made my blood boil.
12.
Perhaps not, but are you aware of the potential damage you can do with a torque wrench that has poor calibration as a result of poor maintenance?
No but I can buy a spanner for about 50p from Wilko. I use decent gear and if my bass goes flying at an irritating band member at the previous gig i'll always make sure before leaving for a gig that it's all in good working order so it doesn't let me/my band down at a critical moment. Doesn't mean I don't deserve to have my bass.
13. ...but not quite as daft as assuming all tools are expensive.
14. Assuming all mechanics look after their tools is as daft as assuming all bass players should keep their basses in mint condition.
15. Reading this thread has made me want to smash some serious bass
16. I use an Ampeg BA115 for practise/small and mid sized gigs and have no complaints at all. What are the big differences in sound between one of them and the B100R? Twice the price...
17. Another one recommending the TI JF324.
18. Not a pic of mine itself, but the same. Om nom nom nom nom.
19. Hello! My band have been back in the studio and recorded 3 new songs - Pandemic, Martyr For The Fallen and This Is Dogging. There's clips of all 3 new tracks now up on Myspace so please have a little listen and let me know what you think. If anyone would like a fancy 5 track CD they can be purchased (for £1 + P&P, bargain huh?) from here www.sovietdisco.bigcartel.com Cheers! edit: Pandemic was played on local BBC radio so can listen to the track in full on the listen again function - http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p005ztg8 it's on about 1:12.00ish

21. That Old Horse Murphy knows his sh*t!
22. am I losing my marbles? I can't seem to find anywhere that sells the bog standard Ernie Ball Extra Long straps?
23. Welcome aboard fellow Teessider! Can't help you much by means of mentoring i'm afraid as i'm a bit of a blagger myself.
