  1. FYI there's a chap on the Trace Elliot Facebook group selling 3D printed replacement coloured caps for £5 a pair (red & green). I got a set and he's done an excellent job getting them as close as possible.

  3. That's awesome - sounds like you can get away without the camera on in your meetings - and the midi idea sounds interesting. RE the colours, sounds like you need to find some green for you printer, then it will look fine (and you could sell me your red one!).
  4. The originals band I was in a few years back had about 25 songs, and we would choose about 15 each time we played. We added new songs at a rate of a couple per year as they were written, and then recorded every now and again. We also had about 20 covers mainly of songs we liked and would drop into the set as needed. 45 songs feels like a lot but as they were developed over quite a few years and we only ever had a couple new songs at any one time. Unfortunately time moved on with that band although we still have the music on spotify which is nice. I also play in church and there we have hundreds of songs, but always use chord sheets. Generally we play five or six every week, run through them on a Friday evening and then play on a Sunday morning. It's a very different sort of thing to playing a gig as there is quite a lot of making it up as you go along, albeit most of it is as easy (or difficult) as you care to make it. We're lucky at the moment that we have a group of very experienced/able musicians (one of our drummers just finished at ACM) so it works out just fine, but have been in the situation before where there were a lot of less capable people involved and that's no fun - indeed I stopped playing for a few years because of that.
  5. Best: £75 in total for the head and both cabs (OK had to replace a transistor on the head but now it works just fine)! Worst, not really this year, currently still like everything!
  6. I picked up a hand gun case many years back that has been brilliant. As strong as any other flight case and even enough space for a little Aguilar 350 to act as a backup head and DI box alongside all my cables and the must have deodorant!

  9. ...can't... quite... compute... Yes I was tempted too but only just did up a similar cab, and Cambridge is on the other side of London from me so difficult to justify five hours driving. I think if something is close by, or I happen to be going that way for other reasons, I will grab it.

  11. I'd second a drum screen - we've used one for years and it just become part of the set up. If life is about compromise, and a drummer won't/can't play quieter, this is one step to take. You can also rig up a curtain or something behind the drummer to stop reflections off the back wall. Thomann does some cheapish screens - although we rigged up an additional floor clamp to help support it. You also end up ripping the flexible hinges between the segments pretty quickly, but that's not the end of the world as you can fix them with clear duct tape.

I'm waiting for a nearby 1818 to come up for that very reason (there's one in Norfolk at the moment but too far for me) as I have been very impressed with the old 1818x (with both the 1x18 & 1x10 as on the previous page) but I suspect that even in the land of TE the 1818x is the heaviest they ever made - the problem is it's been sitting in one place for a couple weeks now and settled so far into the ground that I'm not sure it can be moved! I'm hoping the smaller 1818 would just about be transportable - I've more or less got the top half of the stack above but don't find the 1048 too bad for getting around. I'd quite like it for home practice \m/ Although to be fair I have been lucky enough to generally leave TE cabs in places I play regularly so as not to have to transport. Will be reunited with my 2103 & 1153 mini-stack this coming weekend which I stashed under some stairs in the church I play at, figuring no one will be able to move them until I need them next!

    If it's just 9v that you need get a onespot and daisy chain for a first attempt. After that it gets a bit more complicated working out how to mount the bigger and more capable units to your pedalboard. I have a pedalboard with a permanently mounted CS7, but when using pedals at home, or trying out different combinations, or needing a small board for a one off gig etc. I almost always go back to the onespot.

I think I tend to average what I see on other people's boards, in the sense that I see lots of people have a compressor first in the chain so went out and got one as my first pedal, then saw lots of people had a fuzz so went out and got one etc. Twenty (or is it thirty!) years later and its very much looking at the boards that people post on websites like this to get ideas to try. Thus said I have noticed that when playing live I generally only use compression and then the different EQ options based on the vagaries of the venue, trying to cut through etc. I do add something different every now and again - octaver, envelope filter, chorus etc. - but very seldom find myself using them.

  17. I think this is a great model and possibly the future for music shops - good enough to consider as a potential retirement plan/quirky hobby! The place in Leiden was about two thirds coffee shop and one third music shop, yet almost everyone in there were musicians, many students working/hanging out, and the guy was probably turning a reasonable profit on the coffee, pastries & critically I imagine loyalty of people who felt that it was much better to buy coffee from him out of principle compared to Starbucks.

  19. I went to Leiden on a work trip earlier this year and found "Guitars and Beans" which I thought was an awesome idea - coffee shop plus guitar shop. I ended up staying for a couple hours, bought lots of coffee (and some picks!) and every now and then tried out a different instrument. I'm suprised more guitar shops are not explictly trying this business model.
  20. A whole bunch of Trace Elliot gear hitting the market this weekend but most wildly overpriced. Makes me feel a bit sad in a way as indicates the sellers do value the quality (and possibly their history with) the amps, but there is no way anyone is going to get £695 for a 40 year old GP7 combo, or £900 for a 4x10 and 1x15 stack... thus said there is a reasonably priced GP12 SMX in Bristol if anyone is that way...
  21. I quite liked music lessons at school, especially GCSE/A-levels - lots of young ladies whose parents wouldn't let them go to gigs or busking (which we did most weekends & holidays) unless I went with them... this one time, at band camp... 🙂
