1.
changing tone for me is changing plucking hand position along with dynamic and rhythm change near the neck for quieter slow pieces, softer attack and sustained notes near the bridge for noiser faster licks, more attack and stacatto notes
+1 very much to this. Become a habit after years of having poor unresponsive equipement / bass and found moving that hand along was the most effective mod I could do at a moment's notice. T
2. Hi folks Does anyone know if a gs 112 and a db 112 would be a good match from the same amp ? the amp could vary TBH Recently picked up an Aguilar gs112 from fretmiester that pops in around here and just wondering about the possibilities. It's reported in reviews the two cabs have slightly different characteristics. Do they compliment, or clash ? Thanks everyone T
3. for getting bass practice in a 3 piece, try the police back catalogue. It'l get the drummer going too T

5. Just curous really Heard my bass through a reverb box once and thought wow ! but never got around to adding one to my regular set up. Also noted Jeff Berlin in one of his vids saying he uses one. Does anyone else use one regularly ? would appreciate your thoughts Cheers ! T Edit : do you find reverb tends to work better with a certain type of sound ? i.e. more mids and highs ? ta T
6. Depends where you live in Kent, but if brighton isn't too far away I would go straight to Bernie Goodfellow. Quality work, just look at the porn thread for proof T
7. Picked up an Aguilar GS112 from Paul today. T'was a real pleasure, with a warm welcome after a long journey - nice one. A very approachable dude and very easy to deal with - you can deal with confidence Paul - If you come to the London bash, you're welcome 'round mine this time Cheers!!!!
8. HI peeps. Been running around like a BAF last few days - travelled around to the opposite side of the M25 for a gig last night and travelled to Northampton today to pick up an Aguilar GS112 from fretmiester (gives out custard creams - MMmm. Also a good player). Will do tidy up stuff on the thread v.soon. Also looking forward to nailing down the essentials i.e. when, where etc with the comrades In the meanwhile; May your fingers always be supple T
9. That's a lovely family family you have there Paul. Please give your wife and daughters a big thank - you from me for making me feel welcome. Paul - thanks to you, I've now heard an LM 11 for the first time and now have some idea what people are talking about on this forum. That model ampeg was also a first for me too, so all in all, it's been an interesting day and time well spent. By the way, nice basses too !! Made it back with half hour to spare before the darkness really came down, so timed it well for leaving. Perhaps it's just as well we didn't meet in the pub - I suspect we'd still be there now !! And my feedback for Paul; any man that greets you with custard creams has my vote - cheers Paul, well met. Top man. Some very interesting bass lines too. All the best Tom

12.
Great story! I think many of us would say the same actually..Basschat is a remarkable community! So, Happy New Year to Basschat and to everyone here who helps make the place what it is!
+ 1 T
13.
Phil Lynott's death affected me a lot as did Freddie's. It's not so much that they are dead, it's also so about all the music that was lost with them. Ya know, new tunes. I always get a bit annoyed if it's drug related though. Someone somewhere that knew them could have done something to help them, maybe. I always tend to think that the silly buggers brought their early demise on themselves.
That's what got to me. The loss of what they could have done, the music that was lost with them. T
14. anyone heard one then? Ta T
15.
i'm afraid no death moves me if i don't know the person. lack of imagination? I don't know. What i do know is that as you get older (lots of peeps say this) you have to admit to a small sense of relief that the person who's died isn't you.
Someone once said "if I'm not in the obituaries when I read the morning paper, I'm ahead" and Winston Churchill. "This wallpaper is terrible. One of us has to go". T
16.
I remember being gutted when Paul Kossof died as he was a hero of mine back then. I certainly think it's sad when anyone dies before their time, but I'm not moved like I was when I was younger. Does increased age equal an decrease in emotion?
Perhaps decreased hormone levels as we age leads to greater emotional stability ? Could equally be life experience. Or maybe still a silly old G*t so far down the pike !
17. Just answered another posting here today and said 'I get emotional just thinking about it' That got me thinking further about times when musical events had moved me, deeply. I can still recall that awful morning when I heard that John Lennon had died. The memory of that morning still has the power to make me sad, even now, to be honest. Something to do with the loss of further potential Beatles stuff etc And yet, when I spoke with others at the time, some said "Oh, he's just a musician. What's so sad about that" ? At the time, I did wonder if it was just me over - reacting. By the way, I'm not generally an over - emotional person. Have similar events moved you ? or are you not moved by such things ? Are we musicians an emotional bunch at heart really ? share, share, share please
18. If that deal doesn't go through, I'd appreciate a look in PM'd you T
19. Hi everyone. Can you help ? A while ago, for some reason I can no longer remember, I bought an SWR Workingman's 2004 head - but it wasn't working (cue pun, irony etc.). It got stashed in the corner to wait for the time when I had the funds to attend to it. I now have the time and potential funds to sort it out, but I'm curious as to what I may end up with, as I've never actually heard one !!!!! What a situation to be in..... s'pose it's what you get when you take a gamble. It was a low price though. Do I hear 'Plonker' anyone ? It's a model made in Sun Valley, California. Does anyone have any experience of one of these heads ? I would really appreciate your thoughts. Also, I would appreciate your thoughts on how these heads sound with various cabs etc Thanks peeps T
20. Remember hearing one luthier say that the grit form wet and dry has the potential to imbed in frets. Therefore, they avoided using it. Don't know if this is true, or if the opinion is widely held Just food for thought. Hope it's helpful T
