1. I've heard Pearly Gates pickups are supposed to be particularly nice with Les Pauls
2. Shorter screws shouldn't be that hard to find, I bought some for a Tele I was working on. A fairly cheap solution to the problem and certainly a lot quicker than shimming a neck Try Allparts or WD music to begin with ?
3.
Keep going as if it didn't happen, never look around and leave all post mortems until after the gig.
^This
4. I used to own more than a few Chess records, as you say chris, there at the start. Got to respect him for that RIP and thank you
5.
The one that does it for me is John Paul Jones and Ramble On. Bags of melody, groovy as you like and supports the song brilliantly. JPJ's playing encapsulates everything I love about bass in rock/pop music: groovy, funky, melodic, interesting and always adding to the song.
+1
6. At this moment, the bass line in 'Midnight Train to Georgia' by Gladys Night and the Pips. Not complicated at all, but soooo right for the song later on, well.....
7. Marinus and I traded basses, he also worked with me to make the deal possible. We spent a bit of time mailing back and forth on the deal and I found I can endorse what others have said here, first class from start to finish Credit to BC Thanks Marinus for a lovely bass
8. May their b*ll***s wither and drop off. Best wishes for this one BM
9. Fender Precision, with a lovely tort scratchplate 1972/3 era, much better than the Vox Clubman I played at the time (which I still own)
10.
It's a common problem.
11. I've found that the size and shape of the neck does have an influence to my hand shape
12. My Guy by Mary Wells. No problem at all if all I'm doing is the bass line, but there's a bounce to it that goes out the window when I start doing BV's
13. Funny you should say that. I just bought a nice leather strap from Hugh as well He kept in touch all the way, all straightforward. Like everyone else, I'd certainly deal with Hugh again Cheers Hugh Tom
14. Love the yellow colour with white scratchplate
15. Chris bought a strap from me. Had some good chats via mail -as others say, he's a pleasure to deal with Wish you well chris and thanks
16. That is a lovely colour, congratulations on the new bass (and baby !)
17. Tom and I agreed a flexible deal to enable me to buy an amp he had for sale. I won't go into details (as I don't want to embaress the poor chap) but he proved that he's very trustworthy and deserving of the good feedback he has here You can deal with Tom in confidence Thanks for the excellent deal Tom, I'll enjoy the SWR
18. Ah, thanks LDTF and CB, I'll give the Dunlops a miss and try lower riders
19. Sound checks are fine, until the set actually begins and the drummer plays harder and the guitarist turns up the volume. Then the problems start
20. Thanks Discreet and Lozz, I was thinking about the low riders, I may well give them a go. I was offered a set today but missed them while at work - can't have it all I suppose The Jim Dunlops seem to be getting some good press lately, they may be worth a shot too. Anyone tried them ? Cheers all
