How do I straighten a warped scratchplate?

Between layers of wood under the matress ? -
I tend to trust it will arrive inside the next three months and forget all about it for most of the week

Square neck pocket compatability
essexbasscat replied to jakebeamish's topic in Repairs and Technical
The current neck is the worst bit of the instrument ? is it possible to use the neck at all ? If yes, take the frets out of the current neck, buy a long sanding block of the radius of your choice and level the board out. May save a whole load of pain compared to going the other route ? -
For clarity here, the link isn't about the most bass, it's more about the quality / type of bass sound.

Just for clarity here, the link is not about the amount of bass, but it does touch on that topic
Is the greater efficiency of modern PAs the reason why the kick drum is always the loudest thing in the FOH mix these days ? Now that's a question I'd like answering.
May well be discussed in the link ?

I must admit I found the comments about low frequency distortion quite illuminating. I haven't come across the idea before and I've seen no corroborating evidence, but It would certainly go some way towards explaining the difference between what some people call 'the piano' notes and the 'dub' notes, even though they are the same note (I won't say frequency, because that would just complicate things hideously). Wonder if that concept also goes to explain the difference I heard between my GS112 cab and Alex Claber's Big Baby Two, when A/B'ing using the same amp and bass guitar into both. What's more, the difference was very apparent with all three amps I tried which were; - Eden WT550 - Aguilar AG500 - Ashdown ABM900 The GS sounded like the cone was stuffed with wool, compared to the BB2, which seemed almost transparent by comparision. I hadn't come up with an explanation at the time, but maybe the low frequency distortion plays a part ? I also wonder if low frequency distortion goes some way to explaining why some people find they can't hear the BB2 up close. I'm not here to defend the BB2, but just trying to find a way of understanding a puzzling phenomenon.

I found this one a thought provoking read. For your entertainment BC http://www.prosoundweb.com/article/what_really_defines_good_bass_in_sound_reinforcement1/

Twisted neck problem - any advice??
essexbasscat replied to barryman's topic in Repairs and Technical
Have a peek at a thread I raised recently titled 'longitudinal neck twist'. May be a start ? -
Radius guages are a great idea. You could do a google search for Dan Erlewine and order his guitar player repair guide. You'll find detailed guidance there on practically everything you'll need to get the best from your guitar or bass. It depends how deep you want to go into it really. Best bet is to just keep reading around on the topic, learning as you go. It can be a fascinating journey and there's nothing like seeing the smile on your friend's face as they start to play the guitar you've just set up and handed back to them

My band was so Beatles heavy for a while we may as well have been a tribute band

Water and steam seem to be the order of the day. If heat and moisture have to get to the wood, that does imply a laquer or poly re - finish I guess, so no quick jobs with this one. Still, if it's a cheap guitar, nothing to lose ! Thanks for the replies all

Dropped over to Portsmouth yesterday to collect a Telecaster from Dave. We had a good chat over a tea - very welcome after that journey. Dave is a good host Lovely guitar Dave, I'm going to enjoy playing that one Thanks again Tom

Collected an Ashdown Evo II 500 head from Mark yesterday. It's in fantastic condition at a great price too. We had a good chat and a short jam session too, great start to the weekend Cheers Mark ! Highly recommended to BC Tom

I bought a truss rod adjusting tool from Chris. When someone keeps in touch through the deal, you know you're dealing with someone that really does care about stuff. If only everyone worked that way Thanks Chris, first class Tom

I honestly don't know where to start with this problem. Anyone out there have any ideas ? even if people come along and end up saying don't bother for x,y, z reasons, it'll be helpful I'm not in a hurry with this one, but rather curious about twisted necks, as I've never seen it discussed at length before Thanks again

Hi there One for the luthiers I guess. How do you go about taking the longitudinal twist out of a neck ? I have one guitar and one bass that have twisted necks and wouldn't mind having a go at un-twisting them, if it's possible to do in the average home. I read a short while ago about a BC member that took a bass to a luthier who untwisted a neck, with very pleasing results, so it appears it can be done. Anyone have any ideas on this one ? Thanks BC

Band breaking up, what now? play or practice?
essexbasscat replied to Pinball's topic in General Discussion
Agreed with Fionn about learning the theory. Once you get started on that, a lot of things you've picked up in the past from playing by ear will start to make sense in a greater context. You may find the musical world opening up for you as a result, with opportunities to play with all sorts of bands and musicians, in many different styles. After all, the bass, guitar, piccolo, clarinet, piano etc are all mechanisms for expressing musical ideas. Of course, it's a two way street, as the instrument you're playing will inspire ideas by the sound it makes and the method of playing it. i.e. a guitar will allow a chord to be expressed in one way by the layout of the instrument, whereas a piano will allow different chord structures due to it's layout. -
Which of these two JOYO pedals would be best? Looking for that thick sound!
Thanks everyone, Essex is this the one you meant? http://www.amazon.co...aw/d/B006QUGBVK Or the British one I linked in the OP?
Yes, that's the one. Apparently (again, on behalf of the band's guitarist) the Marshall pedal is a different one. He wasn't as impressed with it as the one linked above, but that's his opinion. I haven't heard that one myself yet. I'll be hearing the American one pretty soon, with thanks to Dannybuoy Edit; Aha ! just checked the link at the OP - I guess that's the Marshall jobbie ? oops, I did it again. Ah well, plenty more where that c0ck up came from -

Band guitarist to me about the british sound (Vox AC30 emulator) pedal; "Don't even think about it, just buy it. It really is that good". He plugged his Tele into it and played it. I'm collecting mine from the post office in the morning. -
What other instruments are playing in that frequency range above 200hz where you lose your sound ? guitars doing barre chords ? keyboards ? is there overload around those frequencies ?
