  1. Been pondering this one since yesterday.. A few questions to clarify ? What are you using the radius gauge for ? - ordering a radius block to shape the frets for levelling ? - setted up the curve of the bridge ? - other ? If it's setting up the bridge, things to consider; - the lower strings (E+A) occillate further when struck, so they require greater height from the frets (That said, playing style comes in here i.e. how hard you pluck the string). If you choose the 10 radius, that will tend to leave the middle stings higher relative to the lowest and top string when compared to the 12 gauge. If you choose the 12 radius, that may allow you to leave the middle strings a little lower with a tad more space under the lowest string. However, it's a compromise, as other things will influence your setup, such as levelling the frets. Have a play and see what each feels like. Whatever happens, good luck and I hope you enjoy the experiment. While you have the gauges, you can always undo something if you don't like the results.

If a microfibre cloth retains dust, it could possibly be a good tool for carefully removing fingerfuls of grime, using a fresh area of cloth each application. Similarly, it would be a good medium for initial cleaning with a fluid like Dunlop 65, Gerlitz etc What you say about retained dust causing swirl marks makes sense. Strangely, there's more than a few recommendations around the web for using microfibre cloths for swirl removal. Odd Cloths I've found so far are Planet Waves, Nomad, Fender Premium and premium plush, Ernie Ball and Dunlop. Ernie Ball appears to be the cheapest and Dunlop seem to be the most expensive

  4. Hi all Spent some time doing a review of past BC threads about cleaning our beloved instruments. As you would expect, there were a wide variety of recommendations regarding cleaning fluids, lemon oil etc. MIcrofibre cloths were recommended a few times as well, but they weren't well discussed. Does anyone have experience with the range of microfibre cloths out there ? are there some that work well with one type of finish, but not well with another ? (i.e. nitro and cellulose/ poly finishes) Are there different types of cloths that work better at different stages of work, such as basic grime removal, then later on, polish application, then polishing ? Thanks in advance BC

  8. Referring to the topic in the title, folk used to play piano in real time synchronisation (often composing on the spot I believe) alongside the very early black and white silent movies.
  9. Our band got more than a few bookings due to observations that; - the electronic drums allowed us to play as quiet as needed on the day - the vocal harmonies were easy to hear over the drums Such an advantage. Oh, by the way, my tinnitus is quite ok without a snare waking it up again

  11. The Yamaha YCL 26 would be a great clarinet, good quality and can be had for around £100 - £150. Ebonite, but a very fair start on the ladder
  12. Bought a few speakers from Rupert. The parcel packaging was second to none, with obvious care being taken to prevent the speakers from jumping around in transit.   15. Hi all I've recently set up a guitar using a fret levelling beam and was quite pleased with the results. After setting the bridge to match the radius of the frets, the guitar immediately feel much more expensive than the cheap thing it is. Now I'm looking at creating the slight downward 'ramp' from around the 12th fret to allow the strings to drop that little bit lower. The radius block has finally arrived to do the job, but now I'm thinking "which sandpaper to use " ? Do people use sandpaper with adhesive backing ? which grades for frets and / or the fretboard ? Where would you get said sandpaper ? I've also heard around here that using a wooden block for working on frets isn't a good idea. Any ideas why ? if that's the case, what else would you use ? It does rather put the onus on listening to what's going on around you and responding appropriately. It works best when everyone is able to 'respond in the moment' and adjust as you all go along together. If that can't happen, it may be best to have a referral source for the beat, which could be a bass, vocalist, or in other realms, a conductor etc
