1. Thanks guys, I'm new to the double bass, so all tips are very welcome ! Greenhorn in the house !
2. Surely someone out there has some ideas ?
3. Thinking about double bass stands and found this old'n. Saw the Hercules stand, which looks quite different from many of the others. Is there anyone out there that would like to share their experience of DB stands ? Recommend some ? avoid others ? Cheers
4. Blimey ! I'd forgotten about this one. Or it could be alzheimers.......
5.
What emotion? Pure envy!! I wish I could play so beautifully - especially Rinat Ibragimov on his 3-string bass
Couldn't agree more. He plays the DB with a grace more remeniscent of smaller instruments. Thank you for posting these, a real pleasure to hear.
6. Met up with Matt to collect some double bass bits from him., We had a good chat - turns out Matt is quite handy with a double bass. Wish you every success Matt - We'll probably meet again at some point ! All the best Tom
7. Thanks Matt, a few surprises today eh ? really handy to find a fellow double bass player just around the corner. Well met Matt, hope to catch up with you again All the best Tom
8. That song by Jay Leonhart hit the spot for me, as the lyrics go to the difficulties of trying to intonate a DB and sing at the same time. Being new to DB myself, I can really appreciate what he's talking about in saying 'playing notes that aren't really there' and 'not knowing where you are' on the fingerboard (not fretboard !).

10. Discovered this old'n while looking for info on sizing up DB's. Some interesting reading here. Are there any shops that stock a reasonable selection of double basses local to London ? Cheers all
11. Agreed on the Spirocores, there is a markable difference between the brands. A really useful post Clarky, cheers
12. To answer the OP opening question - NO ! If I pay the extra to have something new, I expect it to be faultless, be it a bass or whatever. Just my opinion though
13.
Yes! If you can get hold of a Firebass 700 with a matching 4x10 it'll last forever and you'll sound like god. So much power! And you'll probably spend no more than £250. Most peavey amps tend to go down to 2ohms so can power 4 8ohm cabs! However, Peavey stuff is not for the fainthearted. It is a bit on the heavy side and is pretty much as big as it can be! If you can stand the size and weight you'll be very pleasantly surprised. Personally I wouldn't go for the Mk 1-4's as they're getting quite old now, but the Firebass 700 and Tour 400 are solid buys. Truckstop
My MK IV is easily the loudest amp I own and it's never ever, missed a beat and I don't expect it to either. I've heard stories of them continuing to work well after bouncing down the stairs and falling out the back of vans on the way home, It weighs around the same as a GS112.
14. You'll find a bit more oomph from an ABM 500 combo, the 300 can be a little underpowered in some situations.
15. I waited more than two years to find my one of these. Nice price too. Good luck with the sale
16. Agree with the praise for these things. Then I suppose I would, considering I bought the one at the top of the page from OTPJ !
17. Yes, still here. I'll send you a message Ta Edit; it's still here. Thanks for the enquiry
18. So what evidence have you observed or heard to suggest that a chiropractor will be able to solve the particular problems of the OP ? Can you explain and support your clinical reasoning that leads you to recommend a chiropractor's services ? Do you consider it reasonable to recommend the same treatment for all problems ?
19.
May be think about a chiropractor too?
Why ?
20. There are numerous possible causes of your shoulder problem, which may, or may not, be bass related. I would suggest you visit your GP and ask them to refer you to an experienced physiotherapist for assessment. If the GP resists your request, stress the importance of your wrist and shoulder to your musical career. Oh, just one other thing. Threads like this will bring plenty of good will and advice. While support is valuable and the advice will be well - meant, it's no substitute for a proper assessment by a skilled practitioner. All the best for a full and speedy recovery T
21. Here we go.....
22.
Music is music. I'll have a go at any instrument. I play bass, drums and guitar because they are all great fun and very easy to get a tune/beat from.
More this one than anything. Always thought the music is inside you and the instrument you play in the moment gives expression to it.
23. Matt sold me a strap that's as good as new for a nice price really friendly to deal with too. WIsh more people were like this. Thank you Matt All the best Tom
