  1. Got to be several thousand by now, a lot of them with the same band. Even more if you add playing first thing every morning for around four years with the school brass band.
  2. I'd certainly be interested in hearing a test like this, especially with the BF cabs present. London or Anglia venue ? or midway ?
  3. +1 to Ashdown support. I recently mailed them with some enquiries about the ABM series amps. The manager of Ashdown replied personally. First class.
  4. Thanks Clarky Coming from one of the more respected members of BC, that's really appreciated,
  5. I travelled to Lee to collect an amp from him, at a very nice price too. I got lost after my google map sent me to the wrong part of town. Lee graciously guided me across town via a string of phone calls to him describing the current scene (where are you now ? ) we got there in the end. Genuinely nice chap too. No hesitation in recommending Lee to BC. Thanks Lee (hope the gig went well).
  6. Everybody's talkin' 'bout the new sound funny but it's still rock n roll to me.... Billy Joel
  7. I met up with a fellow BC'er yesterday to collect an excellent cab from him (cheers Clarky) and something he said got me thinking, as he unknowingly echoed something I'd been contemplating for quite a while. Has anyone noticed market trends with regards to equipement ? seems that some gear rides an incoming wave of popularity, then slowly begins to sour on the player's pallet, leading to loads of said gear coming up for sale as the tide goes out. Is it marketing alone ? extending the metaphor, that does seem a bit of a shallow explaination. If something performs well, sounds good and does what is asked of it, why is it being sold on so frequently ? There are the old favourites that never really go away (seems Barefaced is here to stay for instance), but other gear just goes in and out of fashion. What say you ?
  8. I searched for one of these for ages (well over a year) and snapped it up when one came around. Now this one sits on the shelf ! I really don't understand why this is still here. Genuinely puzzled.
  9. I listened to a compact (or was it a midget?) at a bass bash not so long ago. I couldn't help thinking on the day that the sound it produced with a variety of amps through it was bit thin, without much body. I wasn't the only one thinking that either. In all fairness though, we'd just listened to a few amps through an Epifani 4 x 10, so maybe our ears were a little pre - conditioned by this ? I fully expect some verbal for this from BF fans, but it is was I found on the day. Disappointed a little too, as I'd grown to expect much more. I'd be quite interested to hear more BF cabs though, as I don't expect those findings to be reflected throughout the whole range of products.
  10. Nothing new to add to the above, as I also had a nice easy deal with Clarky, who was even kind enough to put a cab on hold for me for a short while. Thanks Clarky ! Tom
  11. Interesting to note that no - one has mentioned speakers so far .......
  12. Good thread. I learned Dee Murray's basslines to Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road when it came out. I can still remember all of it some 40 years later. As a result, Dee Murray's coloured my playing ever since in very subtle ways. Dee, if you ever get to read this, a huge thank you
  13. It's art, it's free, you make it what you wish. For every person that says "do it this way", there will be someone else saying "Why do the same as everyone else" ? Have a listen to Dave Brubeck's Take Five Then have a go at Heavy Weather by Weather Report Take your pick !
  14. I have heard the Roadworn Telecasters are really sweet
  15. One of my all time favourite LP's, it's played from front to back on long car journeys.
  16. What cab are you going to put it through ? The pairing of amp and cab can make a difference
  17. Didn't buy anything off Dave. He didn't buy anything from me either. So why am I doing this ? Just to say that Dave spent his free time helping me with enquires on double basses and helped me to avoid what may have been a costly mistake Much appreciated Dave, you're a gentleman Tom
  18. OK, update I've done a little research on this and heeded the advice of the Rev here (thanks again). I'll be happy to walk away from this one if the guy doesn't accept my offer. CHeers all T
  19. Thanks Rev, I appreciate the time taken for that answer. I'm not a luthier myself. I do know one or two that may give me a few pointers though. I'm also used to working with tools, so although I've never done a job like this, I'd give it a go if I was told what to do and how to go about it. To clarify; the F hole is only lower on one portion of the F, on the side that's nearest the bridge. It's more a curve of the wood local to that side of the F, rather than a general sinking of the table itself on that side. The figures of £600 you quote certainly give me something to think about, as the guy is asking around the £300 mark.
