1.
Thieving gits..... just realised my bass neck is sat on a pile of bricks - no sign of the alloy.
2.
I played some council backed festival thing with my punk band back in 1980 at Talacre park in Kentish Town. Lots of people there and we supported 23 Skidoo. We played in some large garage like building with some shutters that opened on to the park. We were fairly in your face and had two singers who were taunting the boys in blue as it was a fairly edgy SPG and riots era. The power was turned off first. Then the crowd demanded it go back on again. Then the old bill wound the shutters down as we were playing and the two nutter singers propped them open with rapidly buckling mic stands. The shutters eventually came down and we got a bit of a slapping from the cops. They could do that in those days. Meanwhile my girlfriend went AWOL and ended up doing the dirty on me with the top of the bill bands guitarist that night. All my money was nicked from my jacket backstage and I got caught bunking the fare on the tube on the way home. Happy days.
This one has stuck in my head. It's been a while since my day went around the 'S' bend that kind of raw efficiency
3. That's neat ! thanks for posting it T
4. Cheers Paul, those Fat Beams nicely sorted out the fret buzz on my CV Jazz. Good price too, much appreciated. All the best Tom
5. Watcha from another Londonite (ish)
6. Bought some strings from Paul recently. No hassle transaction and I'd deal with him again for sure. Cheers Paul Tom
7. Get some Kent Armstrong's off e -bay after phoning them for the correct model no.
8. I agree about the quality of the classic vibe series, they are a bargain for the money. Was there an advertising push that fell off or something ? There used to be one or two knocking about most months of last year, but I havn't seen one for sale in the secondhand section for ages. Just seems odd they have suddenly vanished T
9. The man. We all owe a debt to him in one way or another. Ta for flagging it up Pete
10. Not a strange topic at all, in fact I'm surprised it hasn't come up more often. I keep mine as short as is comfortable in an attempt to maintain an even tone. I wonder if folk that use a super low action requiring a feather -light touch also keepshort nails. I don't quite fall into this catagory just yet, but I do wonder if the light brush of the string required for super - low action requires the player to use the skin at end of the finger (almost passing the string at 90 degrees) instead of the pads used for a finger touch grip (say for instance holding a thin roll up). Just wondering....
11. Been curious lately having noticed weeks going by without CV Precisions even being mentioned. Seems not that long ago that almost every other day, someone had one for sale, or was buying one, or just generally dicussing the pro's / con's of them. But lately, they havn't even been mentioned at all (until today as an also- ran in another thread). Has the love just dropped off or are they just out of fashion now ? have they stood the test of time and been revealed to be as good as every first thougth they were ? Just a thought. What do you think ? (BTW enjoy the gig if you've got one tonight) T
12. Forgive me for coming back to this point and apologies to the OP for wandering off topic , but I was under the impression that CV's have Seymour Duncan's of some description in them at birth. Is this not the case ? or are they SD's under license ? inferior ? etc ? Just asking....
13. I have compared two basses of the same model, one with a basswood body and one with an alder body. The basswood was a little lighter and sounded a little 'cleaner' in comparison to the alder, which sounded a little warmer. Both resonated equally well, but there was an acoustic difference at the end of the day. Sorry if that's not particularly helpful in a decision making process, just my 2p. T
14. Hold your head up by Argent, Whole lot of Love Led Zep and Rubber Bullets by 10cc for the first performance on bass.
15. There was a link somewhere around here about the subtle differences between the strings in the DR range. That was an interesting read which opened my eyes a bit on this topic.
16. Peavey MK IV amp for £60.00 It's heavy for sure, but it produces a full sound that's easy to shape and tailor to the circumstances. Also renowned for being ultra reliable. I'd like to get an American Eden WT400 at some point, just for the ease of carrying, but I'll always have the Peavey mk IV as a back - up.
17. I almost plunged headlong into a deal for an Ampeg SVT 4, until I came to my senses with the realisation that I havn't done a gig for years and years that's needed that much power. Don't need to blast down walls to have an ampeg sound. What was I thinking ? Damn GAS !
18. Had to pull out due to a Baldrick moment of my own. Doh ! Have a bump for a fantastic bargain for such a lot of amp
19. Looking forward to seeing more on this one
20. Hit the road Jack is sorted with keys as is Little Richard
21. Wonder why he'd playing in C# up nearer the 12th rather than hanging around frets 4/5/6 etc ?
