1.
I believe I can make this. Will bring my Shuker Singlecut fanned-fret, POD X3 Live, Sennheiser hd202 headphones. Would anyone be interested if I brought my Hattie HA3500 and BFM Omni 10, or are we OK for rigs that make a lot of noise?
I'd definately be interested in hearing your set - up peted. I also wouldn't mind trying your HA3500 through my GS112's, just to see how they pair up. Great to have you on board By the way, what would it sound like if we all learned one tune to play together on the day ? a few could take the bass guitar line, others could take single note guitar lines, others could do chords (all with the appropriate sound balance of course). Too ambitious ? Too ridiculous ? T
2. This song had me bouncing around in my car 07.45 in the morning on the way to work. How to win friends and influence people
3. Just listened to this again and remembered what a monster of a song it is. It's a brilliant pick- me- up for any slow day. I wanted to share it with you all - have a good weekend Enjoy !
4. I've got one of these (well two really). They are fantastic basses for the money. Have a bump
5. Used to play Mr Blue Sky years ago. Worked out bass the run in quavers towards the end of the song and played it every weekend for somewhere north of two years. It became automatic after a short while. Then came one weekend, went to do it and realised it just wasn't there. I'd forgotten it ! Had to work it out all over again
6. Well, it may come as no surprise that having had my first lesson with Jake, I can only endorse what others have already said here. Over the course of two hours, Jake worked with me to establish a clear way forward in my bass playing career. He quickly assessed my knowledge and abilities, then showed me the way forward in a clear, understandable fashoin. As many others have found, I came away with a sense that my musical career has kick started again and a new sense of hopeand purpose, which makes a real change to weeks and months of going round and round in my own musical circles. You want to advance your musical career ? get it here folks ! Thanks Jake, the next lesson is definately on my list Cheers Tom
7. Get to the top ! Still room for more on the day folks !
8. Like the bolt repair idea - beautifully simple. The clamps are a nice price too. Thanks for raising this thread and posting the update, it gives some hope for my project now cheers T
9. Decent fret job would be the perfect touch to add to the lighter tuners you installed. If you end up keeping the bass, you'll need the frets refinished at some point anyway. Why not have the fun now instead of later ? Could turn a really good bass into a really great bass Best of luck whatever you do T
10. Love it to bits. How much ?
11. Welcome aboard ! Would mind hearing my Roadworn Jazz through an RH450 See you there T
12. Is there anyone out there that would be happy to do a session on setups or other things on the day ? Just thinking about some of the ideas from the thread "Help my band sounds crap live". Could be worth having a road test of some of those ideas on the day if we can get a guitarist and a drummer along. There's also a room that can be used for a jam session, so there may be some things for a drummer and guitarist to do on the day. Not too long to go now........
13. I still gig some of the lines he played. Irreplacable
14.
Very kind of you! Do you drive a Bus?
If we economise on cabinet numbers, it may fit into my Astra merit...... Still open to any suggestions for any talks or demonstrations etc on the day ! cheers
15.
Not sure on the clamps yet, I need to ask around and see what may be lurking in various friends tool boxes. Long jaws and not too deep. Ref glue, I had a look on the Titebond website and see they do a hide glue. Having done a bit of interweb research it seems this is a popular luthier adhesive so I think I'll get a bottle, unless there are other suggestions.
A well known luthier from the Brighton region recommended Aliphatic Resin woodworking glue when we were discussing glueing guitars together back in the mid 90's. Don't know if this is still a good idea though. Perhaps others may know.
16. Glad you posted this, as I've a 12 string guitar with the same problem, but not as drastic as yours. What clamps are you going to use ? could need something with long jaws
17.
This sounds like a good one to come along to. I have a gig that night in Basildon so not too far...I'll see if the girlfriend fancies giving me a lift I can bring an Aguilar DB750, 2 DB212's, Shuker Jazz, pedalboard containing many goodies, an original Mutron III... As I said I'll have to see if a lift is available, but if there is, I can bring any/all of this lot if anyone is interested?
I'd definately be up for A/B 'ing this stuff with mine ! I'll be bringing Peavey MKIV head and 2x GS12. Maybe also an Sa450 too. If transport becomes an issue, give me a shout, as I believe we're not too far from each other ? Cheers T
18. Yes. That line there has a balance between melodic progression and controlled, mild slap, with the balance weighted towards the melody. Much of what was going around today was uncontrolled, or poorly controlled slap with little, or no melody attached. Perhaps a deep desire to be a drummer after all ?
19. Edit; After the first post; - However, that was not the sum total of the day. It was handy to find a stand that moulded earplugs on the spot, at last. There were heaps of lovely basses to play and I felt like a kid in a toyshop to start with. The Dingwalls were interesting to play, reasonably light with some really nice slim necks. Sheldon Dingwall was also very happy to talk about the development of his fanned fret basses. Nice to get a chance to play another Roadworn Jazz for comparisions to mine. Thankfully, I'm still happy with mine tonight. The whole thing was loud, no doubt, but there was a great deal of equipement I wouldn't normally come across, so it was worth it for that alone. Also met a few BC'ers, which was great. Also thanks for Barrie, Phil and Keith for a great time on the Bassgear stand. What a way to meet other bass players ! Overall, well worth it Cheers T
20.
What you got for us, then?
I did take some coffee in a flask too. TO THE LADY RIDING THE MOBILITY SCOOTER ALONG THE PAVEMENT OUTSIDE OLYMPIA; - Thank you for tripping me up with your scooter today by diving around me on the pavement with no warning whatsoever. No doubt you were highly entertained by the sight of me sprawled across the pavement, having fell and landed so uncontrollabey that everyone stopped to witness the spectacle. The fall also broke my flask in the process. I take comfort from the fact we appear to live on opposite sides of London and are unlikely to meet again. Further contributions to my life from you are not required. Hmphh Edit; Apologies for firing off like that. Some things do grind my gears.
21.
I'll be there tomorrow - is there an earplug vendor there?
Yes ! your ears can be individually moulded at the show. The cheaper ones were on sale today too, around £10.00 region. For anyone going tomorrow, it would be wise to have earplugs handy
22. Yes, see you there, sarnies done and ready to go !
23. Try Kent Armstrong's - WD music. I got some from there a few years ago. Hope that helps
24. This would be ideal if it wasn't for the basses and amps already overcrowding my home.
