1. IMO the woolly thing is exacerbated by the cabs. Not that I am dissing them but if you pair an ABM or RM with a BF Super Compact or two you will be able to make any sound you want really. I don't dislike the cabs but I don't necessarily rate them in the way I love their amps.
2. I have the original RM800 head, and I did a review here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/268064-ashdown-rm-800/page__view__getnewpost My thoughts haven't changed really. I love it, but I also now have an ABM500 EVO which I also love and would say the ABM has a bigger bottom (ooooh errrr) if that's your thing.
3. Incredible price for one of (if not the) best solid state amps ever (IMO of course!) If I could I'd bite your arm off for this - GLWTS
4. No, the power is split by impedance, not the power handling of the driver.
5.
the fact that he still uses his original tuba, double and electric basses should be remembered each time GAS tempts us.
Shush now
6. Looks like an absolute cracker of a day, well done all involved and sorry I couldn't make it. Hopefully next year!
7.
Today was a belter. I never win anything. Ever. Period. I am a very happy bunny right now (I would have been even happier had Chelsea not been thumped 3-0 by Arsenal!). Cheers to Alex for bringing the cabinet in for the raffle...it'll be making its gig debut with me tomorrow night in Basingstoke for the first of the Musicians Against Homelessness/Crisis I'm doing. Weeeeeeee!
Congratulations on the cab win! And thank god Arsenal finally remembered how to beat Chelsea haha

12. Lovely! And the THD tone pot thing sounds cracking too
13. Nah, the Two10 has a sweeter and more mellowed top end than the SCs (in my experience) - I wouldn't be looking to use one for more top end than the SC can produce. You'd be better off with a Super Midget I think. Plus it's a known combination which works The Two10 is a bloody good cab but not sure it'll do what you're after
14. Plus the TC cabs will be voiced completely differently from the BF cabs, the SC is designed as a more transparent cab (as far as is possible from a single driver!) but the Two10 is meant to have that more vintage vibe. I can't see the two working well together TBH but am happy to be proved wrong
15.
I'd use a CTM 100 at least, just to keep a bit of clean headroom. Which is what I'll be doing tonight ... If you like total tube fuzz then try the LB.
This is spot on - for me the CTM100 is the perfect valve amp as it can do dirty without killing your ears but also has enough headroom to keep it reasonably clean too. The CTM30/LB30 is definitely not one for clean sounds much above bedroom levels.
16. I gigged this exact rig a few times last year (well, the CTM30 but it's the same head). It's doable if you have PA support; without PA support it can work (edit - if the band isn't silly like mine sadly is!) but don't expect to fill the room with bass. It's not clean but it's very very nice. Even better is two Super Compacts
17. Now that is a classy little mini rig of doom
18. Brilliant cabs! Only sold mine because I couldn't fit it in my car without a lot of faffing. Easy one hand lift too
19. Oooh will be interested to see how you get on, these intrigue me!
