1. Interesting combo of old gen Midget and new SC. Will be interesting to hear how they fare together. I still rate the sC as my favourite ever cab and cannot wait to be able to afford one again
  2. I failed an audition 4 years ago then this year ended up doing for dep gigs for the very same band
  3. Sounds like I need to seek these out
  4. http://resource.noiseguide.com/dc/res_933_trace_elliot_sm7eq_manual.pdf See here
  5.
Have you tried a chocolate malted milk?!
I must confess I haven't. Is it good for metal?
  6.
An Ashdown cab is preferred over a Barefaced...will Basschat ever recover from this...!! Good job I've got biscuits in....
I've recently rediscovered Malted Milks after a ~30 year break. I hope you have some of those in your selection....
  7.
In the "other forum" there is Mediocre bassist club. Are we in danger of forming one here? Sadly I think I would be eligible for membership.
I'd sign up, definitely the right fit for me
  8.
Is this the sealed or the ported version?
Looks like there are 2 ports below the top speaker
  9.

Nice! Not a toroidal transformer, one of those other ones wot I've forgotten the name of
  10.
Not sure how this has turned into a Class D debate. I would really, really love to do a blind hearing test on some of you lot....
Everything gets into a class d debate, or a BF vs the world debate, or an is it good for metal debate. There's no point living otherwise
  11.
Ah... my entire contributon to this thread has been even more nonsense than usual. I thought we were taking about the TH500. Ha ha.
D'oh! It is Monday, we'll forgive you FWIW I have extolled the virtues of Ashdown's RM800 but will gladly admit that compared to an ABM the "old school" tech destroys it for that delightful "heft" The RM as such is back being my backup head for bigger gigs now rather than go-to.
  12.
Still a class D though, which is the essential thrust of this thread... And given Ashdowns reluctance to release specs with any useful detail it's hard to make any real comparisons.. Or it's reviewed by someone with access to instrumentation like the guys as BassGear mag online.. Fancy popping the lid off you ABM1000 and taking some photos?
I'm pretty sure the ABM1000 has the standard toroidal transformer and is just class d power amp. The big lumps of iron referred to here are actually the power supply, the transformer in particular, not the power amp. Most class d amps use SMPS power supplies as they are part and parcel of the module and it is often these which let down the bass amp performance.

    Lull basses
Nope. Just the Jeff Ament. My T5 is anything BUT an oversized body.
OMG I need one of these in my life
  14. I'm on my third ABM head after regretting selling the two previous ones, if that helps clarify
  15. I don't think Harkte "aren't trying" with the LH, it has a very specific design goal in mind and IMO meets it perfectly.
  16. I think that's a bit unfair on the LH series, it is a stonkingly good simple amp. As with all things there are plenty of people who like and plenty who don't but I don't think it falls into the Kilo or TX category
  17. Strings and Things sending me a new one, excellent service
  18. I run an ABM 500 through a VS212 cab and can destroy walls. They are fairly bass heavy amps and cabs so you have to be careful with eq and preshapes but they can sound absolutely incredible when set right. I think they'd benefit from a thumpinator or equivalent in front of them to remove some subsonic stuff.
  19.
Blimey, food for thought indeed! Seems like a superb cab on that basis! The thing that really interests me (and I'm truly not baiting BF owners intentionally here) is that these equal the Barefaced cabs for volume/loudness/dispersion or however you wish to phrase it. Of course, tone is subjective and others may prefer one over the other for that, but it's very interesting indeed that these equal or perhaps even outperform the Barefaced cabs/drivers in a real world setting, given how they claim they perform compared to similar speaker cabinets. How have Ashdown achieved this?
Careful Kev, you're seriously paraphrasing there. Kevin prefers the Ashdown but nowhere did he say that it equalled or outperformed for volume/loudness/dispersion etc. Also really worth bearing in mind Kevin's modded the cab so the standard RM isn't what's being compared here
  20. The ICE module is the same as the one in the RM800. If you watch the last video posted Doug says it's able to be uprated due to increased cooling. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the 20% figure is correct based on the time scale as well
  21. Reigate, Surrey. A top chap indeed, sorry to hear of your hand injury
  22. I thought it was just my stand which suffered, will see what Hercules say!
  23.
I like a good Doug interview. He has so much time for his product users as well as media outlets. Damn nice fellow to chat to face to face too Interesting what he had to say about the Class D power module argument. Also cool that the digital circuitry for the switch can be upgraded in the future without modification to the amp!
Yeah he really comes across brilliantly in that. Nice guy, down to earth but with ideas to grow. Good stuff
  24. WTs are a thing of beauty it has to be said
  25.
Out of trial, so here comes trouble
Shitballs!
