1. I have the 100, it's a brilliant amp. The 300 I can imagine is a beast
2. We used to use City Link at work and they "delivered" over £10k of equipment to the front garden of a house (not even the correct address, just dumped it). They had a POD, which funnily enough was the driver's name and signature (clearly not a very intelligent dickhead). Eventually after much wrangling City Link 'fessed up and we got some form of compensation.
3.
Having built quite a few shortscale basses I don't see any down side to them. The string tension issue is really a non issue now with the improvements in string design I have a custom set made up by Newtone for all the short scales. I went down to 33" scale a while back for the two basses I built for myself which is not really that much of a difference but it does feel better to me. Building shorter than that on a regular basis now and have to say I can only see that continuing.
I concur Alan's built me a 33" five string and a 32" four string and they are both phenomenal. String tension is just as good as on a 34" scale but the scale length is just that bit better for my smaller frame
4. I concur with both your posts
5. Ah now is that a knowing chuckle Dan...
6. http://www.edenamps.com/products/tnseries/amps/TN501.html Look to be replacements for the WTX series. My money is on the same Class D modules as we see everywhere else
7. I think it looks like the sort of head I'd be scared to take on a gig for fear of spoiling its bright whiteness! Interested to hear it though
8. I am very lucky in that I have three "best" basses so it depends what mood I'm in Edit - I'll clarify that. My ACG Finn 5 is the no 1, the Finn 4 has become no 2 and Status is no 3. My function band tends to have no 1 or 3, Boogie Monsters now has no 2, but Boogie Monsters get more gigs than the function band haha
9. Great bass amp, one of my all time favourites
10. It's a Gen 2 Big Baby I believe. Gen 1 was the Big One, Gen 2 was the Big Baby I think
11. Don't scrub Hartke from the list just yet - the LH500 is a monster and could be well worth a look
12.
More likely something in the preamp has got blown up. The voltage level from the speaker out will most likely be too high for the input op amp. I think it's highly unlikely the output transistors will be blown as it would represent a high impedance load. This could be good news, as op amp cost peanuts. Try putting a line level signal into the effects return socket. See if the power amp section is working at least.
Good call
13. Good luck with it - let us know how you get on
14. See the big silver metal fins which look like the back of a radiator (that's essentially what they are!), the output transistors are the little black components attached to them and the PCB
15. sh*te, I suspect one of the output transistors has gone wonky. The only time I've blown an output tranny I couldn't tell just by looking at it ... It'll need a tech. Ashdown are very very good to deal with on these sorts of things though (I know because they're the ones who fixed my blown-up GK amp haha!)
16. 35kg heavy It's the ABM preamp so basically an SS front end but with the valve for some drive. A true behemoth of tone and power and awesomeness
17. So you plugged the speaker output into the line output? (This will be a bad thing). Or you hooked the amp up to your recording device via the line out and didn't have a speaker load present? (This shouldn't be an issue).
18. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/275507-doug-wimbish-v-ashdown/ Discussed last month
19. Honestly the best bass amp I've ever used, just damn heavy! And Phil is a top chap too
20. The Mb Fusion has valves in it, and that's the reason the OP wants to change... Good call though, one of the best Class D amps I've ever used
21.
The mesa does not have a valve in the preamp. Its solid state.
Fair enough, my memory is failing me
22.
Is that the photos or the player Merton? I've never let my lack of ability stand in the way of acquiring ACGs. I still want to find a way to try out your ACG 'P' at some point. Lovely looking bass there Kev
both Yeah we will find a way for you to have a play with my P... It's a wicked bass, so simple but so effective. And Kev, I too love that Finn you have there. A stunner which provided a little inspiration for my 5
