Ashdown should be shipping the B-Social very soon I believe. I want one, maybe next year...
Thanks for the kind offer Merton but I'm not going to be able to get to the London show this year.
Bugger. We will find a way! (Alternatively just commission one to add to your tiny collection )

NBD: Alpher Instruments Mako Elite - Made in Yorkshire Goodness!
Merton replied to Kev's topic in Bass Guitars
Lovely stuff -
Not yet sure I'll be able to make it so haven't committed to buying a ticket - I suspect it'll sell out before I get the chance to know if I can come. If you're heading to the London bass show again I can bring it to that?
Hello Merton, May I have some more info about the 4 string on the left. Looks like the type of bass I'm a big sucker for
Hey! So basically I wanted a P bass but with a shorter scale, not a Fender body shape and with Alan's craftsmanship. So given how awesome my Finn 5 is I spoke to Alan about this and he made it come out 10x better than I could have hoped The spec is: Finn DC Swamp Ash body (2 piece) Maple neck with acrylic impregnated maple fingerboard Overwound PB pickup Volume and passive tone only 32" scale It's ace, plug in and play and off you go with a superb tone and very easy playing neck. Love it

Good work, looks like I'm too late to the thread to add my 2p that I think they are the best basses I've ever owned. Granted neither of mine have the fancy preamps but they both do exactly what I wanted them to do and (IMO) look just as good as the more fancy ones:
-
My pair of Finns - they deserve some better photos (not to mention a better player owning them) so will get that sorted soon when they are safely in their new home

So here's the little secret, classic line style red cloth grille...: Obviously the red grille changes the tone immensely I also took the time to stick wadding in the cab as it was unlined. This has tightened up the bottom end and focused the mids, well worth the effort.
I hope it gives you some comfort to know it's gone to an owner who loves it very dearly!
Damn straight! Hopefully I'll get to come and see you guys play next year and hear it again too

De-Tweetering a Cab - anything important I should know?
Merton replied to Naetharu's topic in Amps and Cabs
A high pass filter with no resistive load can present an impedance load approaching zero at high frequencies, which can cause high frequency oscillation in the amp.
Cool. They have now been completely removed from the circuit -
De-Tweetering a Cab - anything important I should know?
Merton replied to Naetharu's topic in Amps and Cabs
Thought I'd give this a go with my Ashdown RM210 cabs. The tweeter and simple (series) RC crossover is is parallel with the main drivers so I can't see an issue with just chopping the wires at the tweeter end on this particular cab. Will take the RC crossover out too at some point just to be safe though... -
I'd be very interested to hear the results! Personally I'm in the camp that says "my 100W valve head is fine," but then my tonal holy grail is The Who: Live at Leeds, so my honking, overdriven Ashdown probably wouldn't suffice for anyone playing dub reggae. It's made for some very interesting reading, this thread, though I do feel the question of overall tone and EQ has got slightly short shrift.
Damn I miss that amp!

Yes they are heavy with two basses but using both shoulder straps makes carrying the bag on your back a lot easier than the traditional one strap over the shoulder style. I guess it depends if this is to get around on the tube and public transport or simply into and out of a car for gigs and rehearsals...
I have a mono double gig bag and can't recommend them highly enough. It was pretty expensive but it's been my main case for around 6 or 7 years now and it's still like new. Really well made!
I bought one of these recently from these very shores. Very happy with it, best gig bag I've ever had and to have space for two basses is even better

SOLD: Ashdown CTM 30 - UK Custom shop model
A couple of guys have asked about the volume.... Because of the lower gain first stage, you'll need to get the master volume up to about 2pm to really open it up for live work, but once you get there it's got the valve thing going on in spades. And it really does stay clean too, just as I wanted. There are a ton of tones in there too, from deep sub bass to glassy highs! Through a couple of decent sized cabs I am sure you could do a medium-sized pub no problem, plus of course the DI out on these gives you all that lovely valve tone as well if you need reinforcement out front.
+1: give it a sensitive cab or two and you don't need more. Through two Barefaced Super Compacts I can honestly say I destroyed an Engl 2x12 and Marshall 4x12. It wasn't clean but it was glorious -
Yup we do still make quite a bit in the UK, Valve heads of course but also the Retroglide-800, JJ-500 and we have made a lot of ABM heads here this year aswell.
D'oh forgot the Retroglide! And of course all the ABM and JJ bits as and when. Very tempted to get an EVO IV....
-
Having just today received a 32" Finn from Alan I can guarantee you're in for a real treat Damn his basses are good.
-
PS, the build Quality of Ashdown's Chinese stuff is impeccable if any of my RM amps and cabs, and CTM30, are to go by
-
The only UK made Ashdown heads from the current crop are the valve series as far as I know. I think the first batch of EVO IVs were UK too but now it's the custom valve heads and Foundation cabs only. I believe anyway...

Lovely bass Alan's got a real talent for making beautiful basses which sit perfectly and play themselves IMO
