Wow! I have a set of Jazz pickups by him, I think I'll hang onto them , you never know how much they'll be worth in a few years.
Good luck, I've been trying to sell a pair for 5 months!
Just imagine it 1/3 the size and that'll be what the 2x10 will look like I expect...

you lot still at it? anyone seen a photo of these new cabs yet. Or would that get in the way of the thread??
Don't be daft, that's not what this thread is about (anymore)
I agree, 100%, although, and I've raised this before, what is inherently wrong with wanting something to be aesthetically pleasing? This is not just aimed at this thread btw. Look at Apple products, they look sleek AND they work and, IMO, don't faff around like previous phones/PC's I've owned. Same with something like Aguilar. They LOOK great AND they sounds superb. I personally wouldn't buy many products if it was clear it was functionally brllliant, cost a lot of money, yet the aesthetics let it down. This is because there would be an alternative available that ticked all the boxes. I actually DO think the BF products look better. I'm keen to see how the recessed plates look now, and to see another cab in the flesh, so I'm not aiming this at any brand/product really....just generally!
Oh I want things to look good too, I happen to think the BF cabs look great with the silver cloth grille I also think the TKS cabs and the Aguilar cabs look great, and the Bergs, and and and.... This is based purely on photos so I'm sure in the flesh they're even better!

Personally, and I think I've already said this one in this thread, I think the fit and finish on the cabs has come a long way since previous generations, and frankly no-one in the audience gives a rats ass if it looks good up close because they can't tell. Again personally, I think my current rig looks the dogs dangly doodles and sounds even better. My band all agree 100%, plus they love the light weight JTUK, I think the old Compact was certainly never going to be a cab you could like based on what I have gleaned about your sonic goals, howveer I really do think a BB" or Super Compact may surprise you so try one one day if you can. Preferably at a gig, with your bass and amp because, as you will be the first to admit, your last experience seems to have been a bit duff because of the bass and amp as well as the cab...

Stop all this positive Walkabout talk, they sound like a fine back up for my valvey goodness and I can't afford one
-
I think the Gen 3 cabs really are a big step up from the previous BF cabs, but I was a big fan of the old Compact, S12 and Vintage cabs too. I don't like tweeters though JTUK, if you ever want to try a Gen3 SC (1x12) - purely for scientific reasons for your own (dis?!)pleasure - just shout. It would be interesting to compare them to your cabs because I've never actually used those so can't compare. I just know the SCs work for me

Edit - bored so ignore me
More than likely, for a few years china has been hoarding Neodymium(to my knowledge at least) so that's what originally drove forward the the gen 3 cabs. I don't know if the driver in the gen 3 stuff is ceramic, neo or ferrite but I really dig mine regardless.
Originally was going to be ceramic in Gen3 but then they found a neo source meaning they could up the thermal power handling The new 10" is ceramic because, as it has a much smaller magnet required for the limited power handling, it keeps the costs down I believe and there is no weight or sonic advantage to go neo on this design. EDIT: didn't explain that as well as I understand the reasoning in my head. Hmm.
I don't understand why it has to be 16 ohms??? Wouldn't it be more 'popular' just to make a simple lightweight 2x10???
Therein lies the rub, perhaps? More "popular" but not necessarily what Barefaced want to achieve? To achieve their sonic goal this is obviously their best solution...?
-
It's a shame when the room ruins the fun, you can have the best rig ever but in a marble-floored, dome-ceilinged room (I speak here from bitter experience, haha!) you're stuffed! Hopefully the next time out will be more successful
-
The ceramic driver they're using in these is amazing, I heard it when over at BF HQ in Jan collecting my Super Compacts. If I had the money a 2x10 could become my next purchase as a home/small gig cab because the SCs are both permanently in the main big rig set up now Probably overkill though so unlikely to happen

Who makes the Status strings for them? Always been curious...
-
Tolex? Is that a special or an option?
Think you'll find it's an error on the OP, it's definitely the same tuff cab finish!
-
The SC is thermally rated at 600W, I have put around 350W max through one and it was immense but it's a sensitive cab hence a 100 or 200W amp seem to be fine with two cabs
-
On Saturday I used both my SCs with a GK MB200 powering them and was too loud
-
I concur with Count Bassy, though personally not had a problem with the bottom B. They are definitely quieter like flats wrt string/fret noise, prob one of the reasons I like them as it masks my bad playing better!! IMO they have made all my basses sound perfect, I always felt there was too much zing before and not enough balls
-
There's another thread about these somewhere. I love them, have them on all my basses
Well, the Fusion tubes don't really add much. They add some harmonic content, but not as much as some people would want. The Streamliner pre really does add a huge amount of warmth and thickness to the tone. It is very obvious especially if you've just played a solid state amp like the Shuttle before.

Have you A/B'd these two amps? The Fusion is capable of huge warmth and depth of tone - it's a beast. It's loud, too. Admittedly I only had a relatively short time with the amps at bertbass's place, but it was quite obvious that although there are certain variations in the way they do things, they have more similarities than differences. The Fusion will do 'the GK sound' for sure, but it does a lot more besides. It shouldn't be confused with any other GK amp. IMHO.
I concur with Sir Mr discreet
