1. It's a shame when the room ruins the fun, you can have the best rig ever but in a marble-floored, dome-ceilinged room (I speak here from bitter experience, haha!) you're stuffed! Hopefully the next time out will be more successful
2. The ceramic driver they're using in these is amazing, I heard it when over at BF HQ in Jan collecting my Super Compacts. If I had the money a 2x10 could become my next purchase as a home/small gig cab because the SCs are both permanently in the main big rig set up now Probably overkill though so unlikely to happen
3. Who makes the Status strings for them? Always been curious...
4.
Tolex? Is that a special or an option?
Think you'll find it's an error on the OP, it's definitely the same tuff cab finish!
5. The SC is thermally rated at 600W, I have put around 350W max through one and it was immense but it's a sensitive cab hence a 100 or 200W amp seem to be fine with two cabs
6. On Saturday I used both my SCs with a GK MB200 powering them and was too loud
7. I concur with Count Bassy, though personally not had a problem with the bottom B. They are definitely quieter like flats wrt string/fret noise, prob one of the reasons I like them as it masks my bad playing better!! IMO they have made all my basses sound perfect, I always felt there was too much zing before and not enough balls
8. There's another thread about these somewhere. I love them, have them on all my basses
9.
Well, the Fusion tubes don't really add much. They add some harmonic content, but not as much as some people would want. The Streamliner pre really does add a huge amount of warmth and thickness to the tone. It is very obvious especially if you've just played a solid state amp like the Shuttle before.

Have you A/B'd these two amps? The Fusion is capable of huge warmth and depth of tone - it's a beast. It's loud, too. Admittedly I only had a relatively short time with the amps at bertbass's place, but it was quite obvious that although there are certain variations in the way they do things, they have more similarities than differences. The Fusion will do 'the GK sound' for sure, but it does a lot more besides. It shouldn't be confused with any other GK amp. IMHO.
I concur with Sir Mr discreet
10. Mine….:
11. I went from an S12 to two SCs and they kick out more bottom end I think EDIT - thinking about it, it's actually that the SC is less "harsh" sounding, though even that is the wrong term. The S12 was am immense cab and never complained about what I threw at it, the SCs are more of the same but with a slightly fuller sound
12. I used to have an MB Fusion and it was without a doubt one of my favourite amps, they are awesome
13.
Can you (or anyone) comment on how the Super Compact handles a 5 string esp low A ? And keep the reviews coming
Well it handles a B absolutely fine if that helps?!
14.
Merton, what cabinet do you use with yours? Cheers L
Two Barefaced Super Compacts (tho even with one I've been too loud!):
15. I still love mine, great amp
16.
You can make quite a good case for the superiority of round ports, but I know Phil is using them in the prototype because they are easier to swap out.
Absolutely, but slot ports are still "proper" Anyhoo just being facetious really, it's a great thread and v interesting
17. Bargainous!
18.
Good... proper ports and not those horrible shelve things..
Haha! Both are equally valid design concepts, one is not more "proper" than the other Oh and Phil says further up that the final design will probably use the shelf type
19.
OK thanks, misread GK's website. It's probably still worth the OP trying to find out if it is the pre amp or the amp. If it is the pre amp then check the valve, if it is the amp it's probably beyond home fixes. The 550 will have large storage capacitors in it which could make it dangerous to poke around in, even when unplugged. I doubt there is anything user serviceable in the class D power amp which would cause this sound. I've never worked on a GK but no-one else answered so I thought I'd give my penny's worth.
Yeah sorry I wasn't really being very helpful to anyone was I?! Your penny's worth is always relevant and sensible advice so apologies for being facetious about a quite irrelvant part of your response
20.
Which Fusion is it, one with a valve or one without?
Both the Fusion 550 and the MB Fusion have a three-valve preamp, there isn't a Fusion without valves The 550 is the big rack mount amp with old school power supply and amp, the MB is the Class D SMPS jobbie
21. Good work! They are cracking basses, if I ever consider selling mine please shoot me

Gone

Cannot believe this hasn't gone already, it's way cheaper than it should be I reckon. If I had money I'd have it just so I could have a bigger Status collection!
23.
I've wondered for a little while how an Ashdown LB30 would sound with a non-tweeter Super 12; given the cab's sensitivity it may be giggable - would be interested to see if anyone's tried this.
I doubt it's giggable unless the band is quiet. I run a CTM100 with two Super Compacts and that is amazing but I suspect an LB30 would run out of puff.
24. Oh sh*t never measured the feet. Will get on that! Volume - make sure you have sensitive cabs and you'll be fine. I have been too loud with one Barefaced Super Compact (1x12) but mine ally gig with 2 for extra air movement etc. Maybe sometimes I'd like a bit more clean headroom but it's honestly fantastic and works in my loud 2 geetards & drums gig fine. Fills the stage beautifully
25. A great bass, wooden necked Status basses are vastly underrated IMO
