1. Status Hotwires And yes IME the difference between pickups and finger positioning really is noticeable. Oh and Bert, flat side down
2. I love them. You still get a very slight "growl" like you get with a round but the bottom end is so much smoother and the balance across the strings feels better. I like bright zingy rounds but I am definitely moving towards preferring halfs, of my three main gigging basses two are now strung with halfs. The recorded tone is lush too. As for feel and tension they give me more what I crave and IMO help my (crappy) technique as they feel "right". Hope that makes some sense :/
3.
Oh you rebel you!
Yeah check me out with my crazy antics
4. Hated flats first time around but have in the last few months fallen in love with halfwounds
5. The tone will be fine, trust me I know this coz I had the power trannies replaced in mine after my mate dropped it heavily and knocked all the heat sinks off the originals...
6. Great looking bass! But it has more controls than my amp I think....
7.
It's possible that MK2 came with a different 15" speaker as they came with a TruVox series Celestion whereas the MK1s pre-date this driver so it was probably a K or Q series unit in those..
I will open my Mk 1 up and find out sometime
8. I have a cab which doesn't vibrate Sorry, unhelpful.
9. PPS Matt has the chronology right, no US models and basically the Mk1 with two guises (early pimple followed swiftly by carpet covering) then the Mk2 from around 1999. Very rare are the heads and even rarer are the 1x12 cabs to go with it. An angled and a straight 1x12 cab, both 16ohm to suit the 8ohm min load. If I could find one if those rigs I'd have it. Kind of a precursor to Ashdown's Five Fifteen mini stack.
10. PS anything more than about £120 I would say is too much
11. I have an old 1996 carpet covered 15" combo and briefly owned a 15" Mk2 buffalo combo. Nothing in it tonally, though somehow the Mk2 seemed punchier. The Mk2 seemed a fair bit louder but that was probably my naive youthful ears more than anything. I LOVE the tone of these things but personally I have always found they run out of steam on gigs.
12. [sup]BOught it last night, stuck it on in the car this morning, loving what I've heard so far! Cheers for the heads up [/sup]
13. Oooh, will go buy it now....
14. It's part of the package we provide - band and DJ. So, er, yes!
15. Do you want to cause a Richter 10 earthquake in Britain??
16.
Something like a 5-string P ... P/MM pickup config would be ideal, simple P or P/J could work for me too. EDIT: I think it would probably need to be P/MM to persuade me to trade that Eclipse now.
Nothing I have then! This is both good and bad...
17.
Well said bluejay. Completely agree.
+2
18. Si is a gent to deal with, and I can vouch for the Vintage - it was one of the first 3 ever made and is a cracking cab, the only reason I downsized was I needed to fit the cab in the boot of my car and the Vintage didn't!
19. Great day out, thanks again to bluejay for holding the BC torch all weekend Was great to catch up with a few people who I haven't seen for ages and I managed to get Faye to play a few nice basses too She'll be on here soon, I will make sure of that.... Basses of the day for me were the Statii (of course) and ACGs, especially Status's gorgeous red S2 Classic with faux binding and Alan's bubinga Graft 4 (I think???) That one has really got me thinking about a new toy.... Nate Watts was awesome, as were all three teenagers brave enough to stand and play i front of everyone. I'd sh*t myself in the same situation
20.
I took that photo with the intention of posting it for trade ... but having played with it again I'm not sure I want to do that.
Trade for what...?
21. Stop posting pics of that utterly stunning Eclipse please!!!
22.
Gutted I'm there different days!
D'oh, haven't seen you in YEARS! Hope all is delightful
23. Good call - a dead cheap way of finding out if it works the way I want. £21 on Amazon! Cheers
24. Ah, the VFE Bumblebee and Bumblebee Jr look good. None in the UK that I can find though, haha!
