  1. Maybe he’s time travelling 😃
  2. Oooh I bet this is a stonkingly good little combo!
  3. Gorgeous bass; terribly sad circumstances. All the best for a quick sale x
  4. Having two amps was a godsend at the weekend (see “How Was Your Gig Last Night” thread if you care that much, it’s not that interesting!) though I must confess my two basses were wildly different so it could have been fun - 4 string fretted and 5 string fretless…. But I bet 80-90% of the audience wouldn’t notice…
  5. 20 years ago I was playing a gig when the strap button failed on my bass. That was embarrassing enough because, without a spare, I had to stand awkwardly to play the remaining 2 songs. Guess what I did in the first chorus of the first song? Broke a string. Never again. PS: I did forget a strap once since then though, that was quite special of me.
  6. I’d be inclined to drive to Epsom to get this if you’re in Sussex!
  7. I’ve used an Elf with a Two10 on many occasions and it’s superb. It can hold its own with a band but would want PA support if you get loud
  8. Barefaced Super Twin, which it’s fair to say helped the situation with the Elf!
  9. Kings Arms. Thankfully they’d managed to clean up and it was fine yesterday!
  10. I am currently viewing it less as the HB has let me down and more that I just need to treat it as a special to which needs special care. Will see if that theory is correct when I power it up shortly! But yes the Elf yes again showing it’s superb!
  11. Hot, sweaty pub rock covers last night in Dorking. Load in and out was potentially painful due to the road being closed (burst water main) but we found a work around. Found the first half of the evening stressful with the stage area being chaos - everything had just been dumped on it without any thought as to the most sensible approach to setting up a band. Once that was sorted the singer was getting tetchy about her IEMs, and then we started noticing an odd high pitched noise coming from my bass rig. Turns out the Handbox is super susceptible to noisy power, whether that was the fault of the pub or the LED lights we had running off the same ring main I’m not sure. A power conditioner is clearly in my future… So I switched to my Elf back up, cursing the fact that I’d *almost* put my TE1200 in the car but decided against it. But the Elf was fine, did a sterling job. The band was under rehearsed in all honesty- our second guitarist had switched to drums after the drummer moved north, and our first guitarist is currently unable to play due to a hand injury. We found a cool dep who learnt all the songs in 3 weeks, but two full band rehearsals for this weird new version of the band wasn’t quite enough for us all to bed in. We all played pretty well to be fair but we also all made some heinous mistakes! (Hopefully there isn’t any video of No One Knows 😂) All in all a fun night in the end, now to drop the PA back to its home and check my Handbox isn’t suddenly noisy at home as well… can’t decide if I’d prefer to buy a power conditioner or new valve set 😆
  12. Gigged my Elf last night for a 2.5 hour hot, sweaty pub gig because the power in the pub was making my Handbox make some weird noises a it’s obviously susceptible to noise sadly so power conditioner is on the cards… The Elf didn’t put a foot wrong. Quiet as a mouse when not playing, plenty of volume and heft with all the different patches on my HX effects. Lots of really nice compliments from the audience including a recent ACM graduate who told me my tone was “perfect”, “crushing” (it was a rock covers band so this is good!) and “exactly what he tries to achieve”. I caught him googling both the Trace and Barefaced options in our break 🤣 So, can’t the Elf hang with a band for a long hot gig? Yes. Was a worried about it at all? No. 😎
  13. Answered my own question - it’s all about the FX loop! Makes total sense, and works a bloody treat.
  14. Did a cool gig in Chelmsford town (city?) centre last night as part of their Sounds Good festival. A real eclectic line up of acts - we were closing our stage and preceded by a singer/cellist with guitar accompaniment which was ace. Their cover of Smooth Operator was v cool, as was their original work. Katy Hurt and band hadn’t even seen each other properly since August because of various things so it was a bit under rehearsed but we had great fun. Stage was great, sound guys were lovely, sound on stage was awesome (and oh my god the Handbox WB-100 is a SUPERB amp, sounded ace on stage and sound men loved its DI). TBH I feel I played pretty average at best, but I got through it and just simplified some things I’d normally actually over do… I was channelling my inner Negan with my clothing choice so everyone was lucky I wasn’t brandishing my bass line a baseball bat covered in barbed wire* 🤣 *Walking Dead reference for anyone going 🤷🏼‍♂️
  15. The TE-1200 uses a modified Peavey IPR power amp design, not off the shelf. Certainly seems there’s some disparity between marketing and engineering 😆
  16. Yeah it’s in the user manual, page 8: https://assets.peavey.com/literature/manuals/119253_38239.pdf
  17. Yes it does. 1100W at 4 ohms, 835W at 8 ohms, 1% THD+N is in the manual
  18. Steve just bought a Little Bastard from me, very easy deal and a lovely chap to boot. Thanks!
  19. Years and years ago I used one of these through two Barefaced Super Conpacts because we thought it would be fun. Two guitarists using a 2x12 and a 4x12, and this kept up. It was gnarly as f*^% and didn’t really have much bottom end but it was pretty cool!
  20. Argh! I would SO buy this but it is the wrong time by about 6 months 😭
  21. Correct. Both Trace amps use Peavey designs, the TE1200 has a modified power section from one of the Peavey IPR series amps. I read somewhere recently that the Orange Terror is a home-grown power section too but can’t remember where!
  22. Yup, and their website does not offer filtering by impedance so a phone call made sense IMO. If one of my team told a customer to look at the website when they phoned for advice I’d be raging. Best answer from BD would have been “Leave that with me, can I call/email you back?”
  23. That being said, some CTM30s seem to exist without a Gain control so who the hell knows 😂
  24. A question for all you WB-100 users who use FX as well - how well do the two pair? Reason I ask, I think my Trace TE1200 is a SUPERB amp for effects as it seems to bring out the best in them. The WB-100 on the other hand just seems to make everything feel quite “swampy”. Filters don’t sweep, choruses sound a bit mooshy…. I even thought the (passive) tone control on one of my basses was bust as I couldn’t hear any difference between off, on or the sweep between. Then I realised it’s the same on all my basses…. Weird. It’s a bloody superb amp in and of itself and I LOVE the tone I get from it without anything but a touch of compression, but with a couple of bands I need those filters, synths, choruses and they just get lost… Any clues? (BTW I run the FX between bass and amp, not in the FX loop, and the EQ is pretty much flat with the very slightest of notches on the contour control. Maybe I need to try the FX loop?)
