1. The Ampeg will sound totally different, to begin with probably "muddy" in comparison to what you're used to. Just o bear that in mind!
2.
If anything, its missing a knob, a Gain! Even though it has a tube you dont have the option to push it so its constantly 'clean'.
It doesn't need a gain because it's a high voltage, high headroom input circuit designed to be clean. That said, stick a gain boost in front of it (or use a bass with hot pickups) and you'll get a nice breakup from the valve. I did the latter when I owned one
3. I just "accidentally" phoned Mark @ Bass Direct (twice, bloody HSBC...) and "accidentally" paid for an MB200 to be my home/practice amp. Now just gotta wait for the tiny thing to arrive
4.
Why? Easy. Ashdown = woolly * runs away *
Haha, nice!
5. Have Eminence got a 3015 / 3015LF equivalent in 10" diameter? I wonder if that's the sort of direct Mr Claber is heading?....
Ok, if you clever bass people were Merton's sister, what would you get him for christmas or any present for that matter? For Merton is thoroughly crap at giving ideas. This is my Feedback! Thank yououuuu!! Merton tell me - do you see what you've made me resort to?!!!
I think the Ricky cufflinks are an epic win!
7.
Super Fifteen - full-range 2x15" (two Compacts in one box)
How different from the Vintage is this, just out of curiosity? (No, I am not going to buy one, my next purchase is a Big Twin!!)
8. What if the best bass player to suit your band is 28 or 29, or even female? Will you turn him or her down? Just askin'
9. Well that' a f**king bargain to be had right there. Someone bite this man's arm off!
10. I'd get this
11.
In terms of construction and components used, early SWR and Eden were very well made and specced.
Definitely. They'd both be near or top of my list
12.
I would suggest that early U.S made SWR and Eden amps are by far the best quality out of your list..but not sonically what you are after..possibly
I can make my Eden WT550 sound like a Trace 12-band head.... Maybe it's just the way I play
13. I wish i had a need for this, would love that much power going through my Vintage
14. The bigger brother of SS's rig - WT550 into a Vintage. Oooh yeah
15. Eden WT550 - best amp I have ever owned. Love it. My experiences with it echo Shergold Snickers The Nemesis range (well, the old blue one) was really god too. I won't comment on anything since 2007 though
16.
Well, we gave Merton's a good work out at last year's SE Bass Bash with my Burman Pro 4000 and it sounded very loud to me, and I'm going deaf!
That was an amazing sound. I currently run an Eden WT-550 through my Vintage, and though I suspect that ain't what you're after it offers a very versatile rig indeed and can do everyhting I need in my function band from 60's wool to modern hi-fi via 70s and 80s rock grind
17. Wot it says. I bought 10, 2 people have just let me down so need to shift them. £25 each plus p&p please. EDIT: GONE
18.
Hi, I'm a Luthier from Wallington in Surrey, I've been customising and building guitars and basses for approximately 10 years or so and am still learning every day, I am passionate about guitars and have some cool projects on the go that I'd like to share with real players who really care! I'm not looking for praise or critism but if anything am after constructive and honest opinions , some of my projects push the boundarys on what is classed as acceptable/beautiful or even ugly! so an honest view from real bass players who really have a passion for the bass guitar would be greatly appreciated. I'm new to forums so If I ever cross the line or get it wrong then please feel free to just let me know, I'm only human and I've heard through clients of mine that some forums have very strict rules to follow, so I thank you in advance. Thanks for reading this and feel free to drop a message to me I love to talk about guitars and the missus is bored sensless with me waffleing on about guitars and wood..ha ha. Regards Rob.
Hey Rob, weird coincidence here, a friend of mine just recommended you via a friend of his (sam from tilt at windmills i think?). Might be in touch soon with a respray request
19. Gutted to be doing this but need to pull out, more important stuff I need to do at home if I want to have a family left by the end of the year. I'll get the chorus pedal to Nik beforehand so it can still get into the raffle
20.
Yes I remember, I miss the Groove, fancy a swap back......? Nice to hear from you again though and thanks for your kind words!
How does ther Shark compare to the Groove? I absolutely love Grooves, so am sorely tempted by this, but will need to find stuff to sell first...
21. The amp will be 4 ohm min load, so 8ohms load from the cab will be fine. Not sure if there's a high pass filter in there, if there is get rid of it, if not then the speakers are fooked
22. Bought Si's EBS Unichorus, was a pleasure and dead easy transaction, many thaks
