1. Doesn't matter where it was made as long as it makes the sounds you want and doesn't fall apart. Made in China/Taiwan/Thaliand/Korea/HK etc doesn't mean it'll fall apart quicker than anything "Made in the UK" - think British Leyland I use a "Made in China" bass amp with a "Made in the UK" cab and all is lovely in the world.
2.
This any good? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=81452
Hehe, already tried that, I believe Gareth is all sorted now. Thanks for the plug tho
3. Central body slice with go-faster stripes:
4. Pictures bump: EDIT - V-Type NOT part of the deal. Ever. Sorry
5. OK, I need to buy new earplugs as mine are suddenly not doing a very good job and my back-up rig is sitting unused, so here's a lovely QSC RMX850 power amp for sale. I got it on ebay back at the beginning of Feb for £102, I'm letting it go for £100 - these are about £320 new at the cheapest online retailers. It's a 2 channel amp, specs 185W @ 8 ohm, 280W @ 4 ohm and 430W @ 2 ohm per channel. You can also run it in bridged mono or in parallel modes - bridged mono gives 530W @ 8 ohms or about 800W at 4 ohms. The extras: 3U LD Systems rack bag. Bought from RichardH for £30 posted, if you buy it with the amp I'll add £25 OBBM 4-pole to 2-pole speakon - bought brand new last month to utilise the bridged mono mode, it was £17.50, I'll chuck it in for £15. Shipping is extra (will probably come to around £10 - £15 to mainland UK). Pics later - it's in the room which Theo is currently asleep in and I'll get murdered if I wake him
6. For something over 20 years old it's amazing condition. Classic bit of british bass amp history
7. Oooh, nice! Not from 1978, bit still a nice bit of "proper" Trace history and looks in fine condition too - good luck
8. I tried using that stuff on a homemade cab last year. It was sh*t, looked sh*t, ripped easily and I took it off Sorry, no use I know...
9. I got a QSC RMX850 on ebay for £100 last month, it's 830W into 4 ohms bridged. Nice power amp but bloody heavy (about 18kg I think!). I wanted to get a 1U of some sort but was constrained a lot more by budget than you, that said i can't remember seeing much under the £300 mark in the Class D or 1U region. Maybe I didn't look hard enough tho
10. Ooh, if I had the money I'd so get me a 2nd one just for ultimate building destroying I actualyl have a festival gig in June which I'm really wanting to borrow a 2nd Vintage for, just for a giggle....
11. I've never had a problem with (lack of) growl or sizzle from 15s, and the Vintage and Compact definitely don't fail to deliver.
12.
Thought you may reply Merton... thanks. So basically, i am doing things right, the max that the whole lot will put out is 450w regardless of how high the Green "Output Level" is on the Trace, i'm not going to damage the power section on the 450w head.... it just seems i am getting a v loud smooth clean sound for not a lot of turn on the 450w amp main volume knob. I appreciate your help on this...... Thanks
I'd turn the power amp up full and use the master volume on the Trace as your volume control
13. The fundamental mistake a lot of people make is that the master volume is NOT controlling the power amp output, but the pre-amp output into the power amp. Hence it will still work in your set up
14. Now then, your entire collection is rather lovely isn't it. When can I buy it all from you?
15. Cort Action Bass Think it's around the £289 mark RRP so you can find them cheaper I'm sure. Damn nice neck for the money
16.
See! I told you you'd be finished before I got my grubby mits on mine! Can't wait to see this one take shape. Will it be ready for the next SE Bass Bash?
Pissobly. I've given Mikey a "deadline" of August I'd prefer it to take a long time and be brilliant than be rushed and not quite right tho
17. I'm surprised no-one has bitten yet. I would if I could - I think Status 5ers are brilliant and I've always fancied an Energy -but i'm about to move house into uber-debt Good luck Bilbo!
18. Cheers guys! It's Mikey's design, I'm sure he'll appreciate the nice vibes Luke - it looks more slabby than it actually is, though it certainly isn't anyywhere near as round as say a Spector. I like it, it works for me and is mighty comfy
19.
Sawmill/wood shop..routed all the cabs & amp cases. Nothing exciting really, prior to that i worked at Status, from the end of the series 3000 line to the introduction of the energy. series.
Cool! And where are you now?! (PM if you'd prefer!)
20.
Doh! & there was me working for them when Kaman took over! just couldn't remember the name, no wonder all these Ovations & Hamer guitars kept appearing. I left shortly afterwards
What did you do for them?
21. Awesome song, I've just learnt it for my band. We're doing a weird hybrid of the original and the Glee version (not that I've heard the Glee version). Taught it to one of my pupils yesterday too, great way to explain why scales are useful
22.
As stated AH stands for amp-head, GP stands for Graphic-Preamp in all their guises... Just remember as far as power, Trace are notorious for under-rating their outputs especially in their earlier models i.e MKIV, V'S & 6's! Find one of these models & you're on to a winner, IMO i wouldn't bother with the latter SMX lines when the likes of Gibson etc took over, although the latest range seems to get great reviews.
Careful with your history... Gibson took over after the GP12X preamp, not the SMX preamp, that wa sa Kaman era and widely regarded as the last "good" Trace. Pedantic, I?
23. OK, Mikey got some new facings in this weekend, so we've had a re-think- here is the new top in all her glory
24.
Neither of the cabs look genuine Trace cabs. The handles are wrong, the porting is wrong on the 1x15 & the 2x10 has been 'pimped' with red stripes...Allthough it does look like a trace 2x10, the handles have been added along with the stripes, deffo not a 1153 cab or a 1518.
I'm 95% sure the head and 2x10 are directly from a combo just split, the porting and red stripe is right for the 2x10 combo. Just that 1x15 which confuses me. Certainly steer clear looking at the price it's got to!
