2. Hi all! MB1 has first dibs, jus' checking with him what the score is and will go from there: Martin-Matt-Mike is the order this will go - anyone whose name doesn't begin with M can p*ss off!
 3.
Can't believe I missed JTQ. I always thought their records sucked but as a live band they were excellent.
+1. Great band, great musicians but just never ever got a spark on record. Live is just a totally different experience, would love to see the new line up. I think I only ever saw Gary Crockett with them, he was awesome!
 4.
It's Merton with moveable Eagle eyes! I was mid valve change!
See, I'm just a pedant
Me too, yes and oh yes - used it bridged into a Carlsboro 15'er & Nik's 15'er but using the poweramps individually and panning was better with 2 unmatched cabs. Can't wait to try it with a Big One and [s]give it some proper f***ing welly[/s] undertake a thoroughly scientific & objective aural assessment of both the amplifier unit and the bespoke loudspeaker cabinets [s]abilty to causing hearing damage[/s] merits.
It will sound immense, trust me!!
 5.
Hi Mert, Any more pics of the prototype? Is it finished, and how does it play? I haven't had any more news on my own fanned SC, but I'm trying to hassle Jon too much
Not that I've seen - I think Mikey has had Christmas away from the bass building. While the wood gets all aclimatised I think the idea is to do the finishing of the proto. There's still a fair bit to do on that but Mikey thinks that to get mine to the same stage will take a fair few months so I believe there will be two builds running parallel for a while. I could have totally misinterpreted to, I'll leave that for Mikey to answer!
(snip) If this doesn't qualify for the thread hi-jack of the year, I don't know what does sorry.
Haha, go ahead, I don't mind!
 6. Bloody hell that's in good nick. No idea what it's worth I'm afraid tho. Also broke, but if you wanna sell for £5 I'll have it!!
 7. He is indeed interested... PM'd
 8.
This isn't for you then?
That's a very subtle fan, ain't it?!
 9. Hi Andy, Yeah, Dingwalls are normally parallel fret at 7, we've gone for parallel fret at 3 just to be different. A fanned-fretless would be awesome but I think my brain would f**k it right up! Mikey did the wood buying for my actual bass at the weekend, hoping to make a start on it in a few weeks once the wood has settled at his house. From Mikey's email to me:
As agreed, body is hard ash caps top and back, over a poplar core, with walnut accent lines and go-faster stripes. Rather than being 3 pieces of ash on the back, Im planning on making it 4 with a central seam. This way, all of the grain lines on the back will be coming out from a central point. If I get the glue line invisible, it should look rather nice ;o) Ive had a rethink of the neck... (snip)... Ive got a slice of darker ash that we can use as a center lam, so it would go walnut-ash-dark ash-ash-walnut, with some artistic use of veneers to make pinstripes between the ash lams.
10.
My GAS is fuelled by two words. 'What if...?'
That's what gets me too. But I've promised myself, that after Sunday's little trip (wait and see you lot!) I will be GAS free for 2009-2011 at least. Unless a Trace V-Type Preamp comes up, in which case I'm 'avin' it!
 11. Me in Queensryche would be good, on the Mindcrime or Empire tour. Or Leppard on their Hysteria tour. 80s rock rools, OK?
 12. Got two of these hanging around, they were on various cabs I've had in the past and for whatever reason I still have them They have the "hook" part of velcro on the back, so you can stick em on your cab/face/car with a liberal application of a loop bit They look like this (thanks BAS!): I see them on ebay for a tenner each, BAS sells them for $19.99 plus shipping. I'm thinking £8 each or £15 the pair, both plus P+P. SOLD
 13. Got a friend who may be interested - I'll shoot him this link and get back to you
 14.
Stock Sovtek out - Ruby in [ta Mert]. We'll se how it compares at the weekend. The inside story - LH-1000 [top] with man-size transformer vs LH-500 [bottom] with ladies transformer. Thanks GreeneKing
John, does your amp have the valve shield like the LH500? Doesn't look like it, weird that they've missed that out Like the double power amps, have you tried it bridged yet? Bet it's a fookin beast!
 15. With all the talk about the TC Electornics Rebelhead 450, the new micro GK head has slipped under the radar. It's a hybrid of the MB2 500 and the Fusion head - i.e. a 3-tube preamp with the MB2 500 power section, in the same sized box as the MB2 500. Looks awesome: Talkbass thread Me wanty!
 16. Very nice! makes my soon-to-be new rig seem quite pointlessly oversized in comparison!
 17.
According to the website, the new ones are made from "lightweight poplar ply" It doesn't say anything about bracing and damping though and I have no idea myself as I've never taken it apart. Just checked it out and it sounds great
Eeeeexcellent
 18.
So..... the 1000W version has 2x500W power stages which have to be used into 2 cabs right,(no 1000W bridge) at 4 ohms each to get full power. What if this head was used with one cab with only one side of the power stage connected...would the other side blow as its got no load on it or would it sit happily not being used and be "spare" incase one side goes down, in effect carrying 2 amps....one you use and and one effectively a backup......most people I know have had reliability problems with Ashdowns thats all. Failing that, It'd be the 350W version. They may have saved some money by doing a single 500W version and the usual 1000W version by using the same power stages in both amps....I dont really care about how it looks, just how it performs and the size and portability seem ace....I'd run it with a Sansamp anyway to beef it up tonally. Also, would it need velcro-ing to the top of your cab as I imagine it might be real easy to yank it off if you overstep your lead length, amp goes crashing to the floor....God, I worry too much.
Being solid state means you can happily run one side with no load. The Shuttle is a million times lighter than even the LG1000, I wouldn't worry too much about it coming off your amp!
 19. It'll be fine - you'll only be using one of the 500W amps at 4 ohms or both at 8 ohms. Use Mr Claber's rule of thumb - you can use any amp with any cab, but if it sounds bad, turn down
 20. Put the EH valve back in today, much better through the Big One than the Raytheon. More bass, crisper but less sterile tone. Better, better, better
 21. Just spent a very enjoyable afternoon with Dave (OBBM) and Stew (Huge Hands) and we A/Bd the LG1000 and the Hartke LH500, both into Alex's Big One prototype. I gotta say, we were all mighty impressed with the LG1000. The flat tone is very impressive, clear and authoritative with lots of bottom end still; the Shape and Deep switches are tremendous - especially coupled with the Big One's massive bass response - and the EQ seemed very flexible. The volume never strayed past about 2 or 3 and was louder than the LH500 on a similar volume control setting (tho that of course means nothing). We used Stew's Squier J/P 5, Dave's Statusray and my Retroactive and Groove fretless. All plugged in with the input pad out (passive), we drove the input gain quite hard and the Groove was the only one which got close to clipping the input. This reminds me very much of the old Trace heads with a massive input headroom - I like this!! The Hartke is obviously slightly warmer but there's not a lot in it sound wise (IMO - Dave or Stew may disagree). Stew preferred the LG1000 and I think is quite tempted I have to say, I am too LG1000 on top of LH500 on top of the Big One.
 22.
Thanks for the warning. It certainly looks like a big empty MDF box when viewed through the ports. Who spread the rumour these were ply? I'm hoping they had the decency to put some damping material in there, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
Definitely don't get your hopes up! I think the earlier cabs were ply but they changed to MDF early 90s. I bloody hope the new 2005+ range are ply, properly braced and damped, coz I'm picking up a 1518 next week! If not, I have prob got enough wadding left from my home build to stick into it...
 23. No prob! Be careful of the grille - hte first time I took off a port ring I also took off a chunk of my left hand when exposed to the sharp metal bits!! Under the speaker you'll find a bit empty MDF box I reckon
 24. The end of the ports are rings which lift off the port tubes to cover the metal grille - which is sharp! Once they lift off you can just unscrew the grille
