1. It's the way it is coz the amp section fits nicely with that width. Put it on its side, it'll probably sound better
2.
Yeah, I wasn't having a dig, I am made up with it big time, and thought the price I payed was an awesome deal after what you'd spent on the unit! I was just kidding Im a sarcastic bast***d sometimes...
I was gonna lose sleep
3. Haha, cheers Matt! Cheque's in the post The 4x8 was more expensive coz it was newer, better condition and I'd sunk over £100 into it with service and new speakers etc The 4x8 sounds a bit smoother than this too, which is why I always preferred this one coz I like the grit (which, funnily enough, the Hartke doesn't have but that may change with a valve change...) EDIT; I'm keeping the Brits in there - looking at an Ashdown Mini 15 cab to tide me over til I build my 1x15 cabs, and in the future I think there will be some BarefacedBass cabs too
4. Yes, exercising the LH500 is the new sport! Sadly I can't partake at volume for a few weeks as lack of gigs... Bet it would sound amazing with the Spector
5. I'm gonna bump this as well, just coz I feel bad since I've decided to sell my little brother to this and don't want to take the limelight. If you want the Trace valve experience, go for Stephen's one first
6.
I'd just love to see the 5 and 6 string versions that have been promised on the Status website for about a year!
Rob apparently set the 5 string jig last week... Here's hoping 2009 brings the 5 string, coz I want one!!
7. Steve, what a gorgeous bass! Bet you're like a kid waiting for, er, Christmas
8.
My advice is to try and demo everything in your budget, get out to your local gigs listen to the bass, and buy what sounds best to you !
Indeedy. But the Hartke... sorry. Try lots, choose, buy
9.
Eh? This is the amps and cabs section ... What's the problem?
It got moved from General Bass Discussioon! Amps - can't praise the LH500 highly enough - if you search you can get it for less than £200 brand new, and it's a stonkingly good amp for the money
10. St Bede's eh? Haha! I used to go there, when I were a lad....
11. Last gig of 2008, a wedding at the Ashdown Park Hotel in Wych Cross. Bit of a manic one, our singer was ill so we rush-rehearsed another singer during the afternoon, then went and played the gig. All in all the gig was a stonker, a minor blip in song choice near the beginning of the 2nd set ruined the dancefloor for a few minutes but other than that it was pretty full all night. Guitarist had rig issues - amp AND pedal board were dicking him around, so that was fun. But I was using my new LH500 and it ROCKED. Loved it, so loved the gig! We played great on the whole and had a laugh with the audience (lots of very attractive women, hooray!) and all in all it was a great success when it could so easily have gone the other way. Shame I'm back at work today really
12.
I have a NOS 5751 lurking here somewhere if someone would like to try it in the LH500/1000... Alex
Chuck it my way, that would rock! I'll PM my address. Cheers
13. Yup. Never thought I'd do this As you may know, I now have a Hartke LH500 and it's basically going to make the combo redundant as it does everything the combo does but louder and more flexibly being a head. So, the V-Type is for sale. Specs: 1x15 combo (Eminence Beta 15 fitted) Valve preamp, based on the classis Fender tonestack 250W (at 4 ohm) MOSFET power amp (8 ohms internal speaker) Inputs for active and passive basses Bass, Mid and Treble (passive) controls, plus Deep and Bright switches and a mid shift FX loop This thing sounds gorgeous. It's been "my sound" ever since I bought it from Nash back in the BW days and it is with a heavy heart that I come to sell. You can overdrive the preamp and get a great dirty tone, or back off a bit and have a wonderful, full fat creamy tone but always with enough bite to cut through any stage mix without pushing the amp too hard - it's very rarely been above 2 on the volume. I think this is partly down the speaker in the box - it's got a big peak at about 100Hz which really helps deliver a solid "nearly" bottom end which reinforces the gut-busting tone of the preamp. Lush! It has two slight issues which are all cosmetic: 1. The combo is fairly well used and looks a bit tatty on the outside, but it does have a cover which my sister made, in order to keep any more marks appearing. 2. The volume control, for some reason, starts at 1.5 on the "scale" and goes all the way to 11.5 (if it was there). Doesn't affect it's functionality, just means you have to subract 1.5 from where it's pointing to know where you're actually at!! So, there we have it. Pictures tonight, but it can be seen lurking behind me here: Yes, it happily keeps up with two Marshall 4x12s on its own. It's heavy (29kg including castors I reckon) but nowhere near as heavy as the 4x8 I used to have as well!! Therefore pickup only, or we can arrange somewhere convenient not too far from me. IT'S GONE, CHEERS GUYS
14. John - found a Ruby! PM me your address and I'll post it to you As for the LH500? Well, I gigged it last night and had decided I'd come back here with one sentence to sum it up: I'm selling my Trace V-Type combo The LH500 is like that but on steroids. Give it some better cabs to go through and I'm going to have one helluva massive bass sound. The three tone controls seem more responsive than on the Trace. The highs are glassier and clearer while the lows are tight and well focussed without ever becoming boomy. And the mids are centred perfectly (for my tastes) to give a little bit of bite and burp back. I never ran the volume higher than 3 and even had to knock it back a bit to reduce the on stage volume as it started overpowering the 2 Marshall 4x12s... Love it

Rumple

As an added bit of feedback, it turned out (unknown to me) that the battery clip was not connected to the PCB. Dave was an absolute gent in discussing this and coming to a satisfactory resolution, cheers!

Cheers Dave, was a pleasure and you were a star regarding the battery clip issue. If you need anything else, let me know
17. Hi Arthur, The Mini 15 cab interests me muchly No worries if not! Mert (PS sorry for the PM, sent it as you were replying!!)
18. Had a quick peek in my "box of all things bass that I don't take to a gig" and I have two Sovteks, no Ruby tho Hmm, coulda sworn I had Ruby's in the 4x8 V-Type and swapped them out earlier this year Matt, if you're reading this, can you check for me?! I'll keep looking
19.
Expecting. I need to stalk that there Alex for a cab and obbm for a lead next! Ordered last night, email this am saying it's going out Mon for Tues or Weds. You got me thinking about the valve now! Was forced* to but a nice 2u Gator rack bag for it too. *This may not strictly be true
I still have an old flightcase I had built for my Trace AH300-12, the LH500 fits rather nicely width-wise, just had to stick a bit of faom above it and it's got a nice home, hidden from view of Nic Valves - may have a spare Ruby 12AX7 lurking, will have a look if you want
20. Is that when you're expecting it or when you can use it for the first time?! IME, I ordered Mon morning and had an email within an hour saying they'd despatched it, it was with me almost exactly 24 hours later
21.
Ah, the old Valve Tweaking.... A Slippery Slope. ...before you know it, you'll be selling a kidney for an NOS Mullard.
Aye Already cutting down on the booze so it's in better health
22. Dude, you should've told me earlier! Can't make it now Is it at the Harlequin? Newton Faulkner used to support my function band about 5 years ago when we played in the Feathers in Merstham, hehe. Small world
