1. Brillaint it was. Our last public gig of the year, our last gig with our pregnant singer before she goes on maternity leave, and it was an absolute stonker. A few little very minor cock ups here and there but generally really really good fun. The only niggles were my pedal board acting VERY strange during soundcheck. Turned out our male singer had shoved his pedal bag on top of the power supplies for my pedals, making them overheat and bending the wires causing odd power fluctuations - if he's caused permanent damage to the Trace 18V one I'll be angry But I moved his bag, gave the adaptors breathing space and everything was hunky dory for the rest of the night. In fact it was the most fun I've had at a gig for a long time and my bass sounded f**king brilliant, even if I do say so myself
  2. SMX was 1992-1998ish, with a couple of facelifts along the way. Pre-Gibson
  3.
it's all about the components used.
Nail -> head
  4.
we all now whatever make, prc made gear will never be as good or last as long as uk or us made gear.
With all due respect, bullsh!t. Eden Nemesis gear is made in China and is probably better built than the majority of UK and US amps.
  5.
Just to clarify why I don't like it: It's very sensitive, I can't even go past 2 on the dial (which isn't a lot ot all) as it squishes the sound way too much and it also hugely boosts the treble. I've never used compressors anyway, so I'm not bothered really
Sounds just like the older 7-band compressors - it's the same reason I don't like those ones!!
  6. Ooof, lovely, this is just the spec of S2 I've always lusted after. If I didn't love my Retroactive J, I'd be sorely tempted to do a swap of some sorts. But I do, so I won't. I think.

    Amp help
Another alternative which is currently getting a lot of people excited is the Hartke LH500 - I think Coda are doing them for around £200 including shipping. Pair it up with something like this and you'd have a great set up.
Winners.
  8.
That's what I thought, strange that it has 2 outputs marked as 4 Ohm
Not really. It's 4 ohm min - you can run an 8 ohm speaker from each output. It's standard practice to mark the minimum impedance of the amp so you don't go below that.
  9. No. The LH500 is rated for a minimum impedance of 4 ohms. You're using that already - if you add another cab you risked blowing the power stage...

    Scoopbasses

Don't sell the Status Electro or I'll be in even more trouble with potentially losing body parts! Lovely collection
  11. Oooh, this cab and a Hartke LH500.... mmmmmm. Stop it! The Hamster is a fine fella by the way, buy with confidence
  12. Really enjoying this thread, makes me wonder what I could do... ...probably nothing anywhere near as intelligent and well thought out! Keep the updates coming
  13.
EDIT: Still saving for an LH1000 & one of Claber's Big Ones though. I hope it comes close to that Mk IV / Sunn rig.
I'm wanting the LH1000 with two of Alex's Compact cabs. That would be monstrous
  14. I like that. I even like it with the natural wood finish. Yum.
  15. The seller is talking sh1t or hasn't got a clue and honestly believes it's valve. The GP11 is a solid state unit.

    Back in the Day

Ah well, probably for the best - I've just been told I don't have to drive so I can have a beer or five. It's the first time I've had a chance to do that at the 'Nest in ages! EDIT - hope your gig goes well
  17.
Waldo says "My only gripe is that I find the compressor quite useless " Yet Merton says "it's an indispensible tool" So I guess it has to be subjective! does anybody have any links to any articles of how to use compression to maximum effect and what I can expect it to achive? Thanks Eddy
Check the context though - Waldo was saying the compressor on the 7-band is useless, to which I agreed. I find the 12-band compressor indispensible, it's a different beasty altogether!
  18. You've answered the question yourself - it was the SMX series. 12-band graphic EQ, dual compressor, UV light, variable valve/solid state input stage. Nice amp! Though, being a "350SMX" suggests it was earlier than a 1996 build, as by then the 350 was called the 400...
  19. I never got on with the single control compressor on the older 7-band stuff but I love the proper dual-band one on the SMX/GP12 and current 12-band range. I have it in its pedal form and it's an indispensible tool IMO. From the reports/reviews I've seen the new 7-band compressor is a bit "too much too soon" on the dial and it gets a bit squishy.

    Back in the Day

Back in the Day perform their last public gig of the year at the Crow's Nest on Saturday 22nd November. We'll be on stage from 9pm (ish) and have at least 6 new songs in the set which we're all loving muchly Free entry of course. Come along and say hello if you can, you can't miss me as I'm the bassist
  21.
hopefully il be using my second speaker output soon, Merton is building me a nice cab for it
Hopefully being the operative word - it's taking far longer than I thought just coz i have zero time to do anything at the mo  £120 for this, I'm tempted myself but Nic would probably rip my testicles off with a rusty, blunt knife. Slowly.
  22.
How about searching out a T-Bass with a wooden neck then. You're more than welcome to try mine out if you're down south at all, I'm sure Rob would do one with a wooden neck if you wanted one. Not putting the Sadowsky's down, excellent basses but considering your rapport with Mr Green, I would have thought a T-Bass would keep things simple and 'in-house' so to speak. Mike
Hell yeah. Isn't sshorepunk (?) selling one on here for a ridiculously small sum of money? EDIT: bugger, it's gone!
  23. There's a sticky in this part of the forum with lots of amp techs, try your luck in there. Seems mighty odd to blow just coz you forgot to turn the mute on tho, unless there's something sinister going on inside?? Good luck

    SOLD

A fine bass guitar. Sell it for around £500 and get Rob Green to put a Status neck on your Jazz, have money left over
  25.
We (Meet Me In Vegas) Played at The Stone Roses Bar in York on friday night with Radio Gypsy! It was a pretty small pub but it turned out to be a great venue! it was our first ever gig and it went really well! thank god! haha! not a bad turn out either!
I used to drink there when I was a student and it was called The Grapes. I liked that pub, glad they're doing the live music thing which the Grapes tried and failed miserably at IIRC.
