Did a live video shoot for my new function band, in a barn on a farm. It’s a wedding venue, so not quite as rustic as one may think 😅 Was pretty good; we had a stand-in drummer though because our normal tub thumper was in the hospital with his wife who was giving birth to baby no 2 - we couldn’t really ask him to put us first 😅 First time I’ve used in ears (to avoid too much noise onstage for the audio recording) and I have to say I enjoyed it quite a lot. Still an old school Luddite who likes a rig making noise behind me but the IEMs worked a treat. Not sure I’ll be shelling out big money for any just yet, wait for the gigs to pile up a bit more first…

Show us your rig of choice for the weekend ** Basschat edition**

Cheers @stewblack Nothing to be envious of, you have a mighty collection of cool stuff 😎 I have a second Two10 which is awaiting the matching grille and then I’m contemplating a ridiculous set up of one clean rig (Glockenklang Blue Rock plus one Two10) and one effected (what you see above). Number of gigs I’d need this? Probably zero. Number of gigs I’d use it on anyway? More than that 🤣 -

First outing for the TE-1200: -
This also works! I’m no longer on the GR path, having acquired stupidly powerful Glockenklang and Trace Elliot amps in the last 12 months or so 😬

I bought this on a pretty crazy whim earlier in the summer when I convinced myself I needed a 4 string fretless. I don’t, not in any of my current bands. It has been used at precisely three rehearsals and one gig (for one song…). Alan originally had it installed with a P Retro but I’m a fan of passive basses so he changed this out to volume, tone and pickup coil select (ceramic / both in parallel / both in series / alnico). The battery compartment is still there should you wish to change it back. It is a lovely, lovely bass. Super lightweight, sounds amazing. I just don’t need it and have to be sensible as we head into winter, sorting out the credit card bills before the heating kicks in… The specs: Chambered alder body Stripy ebony top with black binding Maple/mahogany neck Ebony fingerboard with pear wood fretlines 30.5” scale ACG BZ1 pickup Passive with vol/tone/pickup coil select (edit - the switch was active/passive when the P Retro was installed; now it’s a kill switch) Hipshot type A bridge Gotoh resolute tuners Dunlop straplocks Neutrik locking jack socket Strung with La Bella tapewounds TGI gigbag More photos from Alan’s website: https://acguitars.co.uk/project/0438mule4-30-5/ Price wise, commissioning one of these would set you back somewhere in the region of £2.5k I believe; I think a fair price delivered to mainland UK is £1600. Can’t deliver further afield due to that thing we do not name. Not looking for trades at this point thanks. REDUCED TO £1450/£1400 collected

Ooh I didn’t realise you’d got a new ABM V! Now I understand why the IV is up for sale 😅 Is there a marked (sonic) difference between them? -

Ok got a much better grasp of the interaction between the gain and comp settings now and can see that sort of setting being very useful in places, plus found a more sensible “set it and forget it” scenario too. Also used the headphone output today - superb quality. Not a peep of hiss or background noise at all, much like the Glock but absolutely nothing at all like my old Ashdown RM head where I was told “it’s a class D head so there will be noise, use less good headphones”. Does kinda make me wonder …
-
Agree. They missed a trick there, and I wonder if they'll do an evo version where this is the case...

Now it's just mirror-imaged

Just picked up an Ashdown 4x10 cab from Andy (acting as broker/courier to get it up to @asingardenof 🤓) - lovely guy, excellent comms, cab as described, Andy even brought along a bass and amp for me to test the cab. Perfect 👍🏻

I think input gain and EQ setting need to be checked.
-
Thinking more about the compressor, I have the gain set very high following the USB experiments… I am sure that I need more time to experiment with the way the input gain and compressor interact. I also need more time playing with setting the comp pre- and post-EQ. So hold judgement on point 2 for now
-
Er, is that picture upside down for everyone? 🤣

I’ve had the amp a week now, and whilst I’ve not yet managed to play it outside of my house, I have a few observations: 1. The USB recording output is very quiet. So quiet that I have to max the input gain and master volume to get a suitable signal level. Speaking to a guy at Peavey about this, it may be down to a compromise in the chipset they had to use (supply chain issues) but it’s no real biggie as I have my Ashdown B-Social still. 2. Not sure I’m a fan of the compressor as an always on feature. Even with the controls fully off the sound noticeably thins and loses a bit of fatness. It’s great as an effect though, and I can see it being useful for a couple of songs in my function band. 3. The flat (i.e. EQ centred at noon) tone is lovely. Funnily enough it sounds like an Elf but with much more headroom and power in the low end. I actually found that the Trace nearly flat sounded very similar indeed to the way I have EQ’d my Glockenklang. The Glock is more hifi/transparent with its EQ so I have felt I have to work it to get a bit of character in the basic tone; the Trace has it there already. This of course is a personal preference thing (see the recent thread about amp flat settings!) but it works for me. 4. The fan is probably the second quietest fan I’ve ever had in a bass amp. The quietest being in the Glock - even after a long loud gig you can’t hear it at all. With the Trace there is a whisper of one but that’s nothing compared to the Elf, any Ashdown I’ve ever owned or countless other amps. 5. The preshape really is the old Trace preshape. 6. The foot switch is excellent. Sturdy, solid switches and silent switching within the amplifier. Jury’s out still whether it can replace the Glock in my affections as the big gig amp of choice (I need a few gigs under my belt before that, and the Glock has more versatility vs the Trace with the drive control and voice feature for example) but I’m liking what I’m getting so far.

I have both the Elf and the new TE-1200; I don’t really subscribe to this “it’s not a real Trace” thing. The brand died, Peavey bought it and have done their best to keep the spirit of it with these new toys. The Elf is exceptional, I’ve used it on all sorts of gigs and it’s never let me down. The TE-1200 is like a big f***-off Elf and I can’t imagine I’d ever be lacking in power…

@mortware - what are your EQ settings?
-
I concur. I will send you one with the new cab @asingardenof 😎

Sorry mate, you’re now banned from here for liking it. We can’t have that now can we 😂 (glad you like it here, we like having you around!)

I haven’t spoken to Martin for a few weeks now as he had other projects to finish off first but I’ll fire him an email later this week to see how he’s getting on -
How much are flights to the UK at the moment? 😀
