Check out the version of Romeo and Juliet by The Killers. Whilst a fan of the original, I found it worked better in a smaller band arrangement.
Cool, will do. Cheers Didn't even know they'd done a cover of it!

Slightly OT, weirdest request we have has was MJ's "Earth Song". At a Christmas party. Back on topic: I have to learn Sade's "By Your Side" and "Romeo and Juliet" by Dire Straits for a couple of December weddings. Not standard first dance fare but better than some of the stuff we've been asked to do
  3.
Doesn't anyone offer a service to retro-fit new internals into old pick-up housings? Can't go wrong with that - at least they'd definitely fit whatever they came out of...
Pretty sure Andy @ Wizard does this...? Definetely a good idea to look into it!

We do occasional (ie. once every two months ish) public gigs in a bar in East Grinstead, bring potential punters to that and job done.
  5. Good gig last night, we have a completely new lighting rig, trusses and start cloth and it was their debut last night. Looked awesome and of course made us sound better The gig itself was cool, one of my pupils played "You Really Got Me" instead of me - it was his elder sister's 18th birthday. I think we played well, my new Ibanez synth pedal sounded cool and ultimately everyone was on the dancefloor all night so can't have been bad
  6.
Not sure if this is the place for them, but whilst we're / i'm on the subject, would anyone be interested if i posted some tour photos here - as requested in another thread?
Maybe a seperate thread might be the best place? But yes please, pics are a must!!
  7.
From what I can see of most lighter weight cabinets (and many heavy ones too) is that they're insufficiently braced. My old Acme cabs were 3/4" ply with pre-stressed cross-braces - very rigid indeed. To get similar rigidity with my 3/8" ply cabs I'm running ribs along all the panels and then using tensioned cross-braces. The downside is the extra time it takes to build them and they're not quite as light as an unbraced lightweight ply cab but they're a hell of a lot better sounding! Alex
I have f**k all experience with light cabs but I do know htat the sound of your Compact cab was astonishing. I can't wait to be able to afford a couple
  8.
Thanks for that! Who do I contact to get my name on the waiting list? I left a message on Pete's answer phone about a year ago, but didn't get any reply.....
I'd try Charlie Chandler's Guitar Experience in Hampton Wick to get hold of Paul Herman there, or get another contact no. for him
  9.
I will be in touch anyway then, Im definately interested. How much extra was it for the matching 4x8 cab? Do you have any other pictures available? Thanks V much! Matt
Will try to get some more pics tonight or tomorrow Matching cab has been withdrawn for the mo I'm afraid - it sounds awesome with my 1x15 combo and as my 1x15 cab is yet to even start being made I need it for the forseeable...
  10.
My hands are not big enough to stretch, but the open A sounds all right to me. I just tried hammering onto the F sharp in the main riff, which also makes it easier to play.
Fair play. There's no "correct way" IMO, everyone plays things slightly differently. Interestingly I use the open A at the chorus. Not sure why, I just do.

  13.
Hi My Trace Elliot SMX dual compressor has died and, unless anyone can tell me otherwise, can't be repaired (it sometimes makes horrible buzzing noizes and sometimes just goes TOTALLY quiet). I've seen loads of DBX and similar quality compressors on eBay for good prices and am considering one of them. I'e read that the amp manufacturers don't always make their loops impedance requirements right for these types of devices, sometimes requireing the effect has a similar hi-z to a guitar amp pre-amp input. This would mean I'd need a 'stomp box' style unit again or a di box to get the impedance step, wouldn't it? Does anyone know if I could use a studio type compressor in my Marshall MB4210 fx loop of would I need a Di box, too? Cheers, and thanks in advance for any assistance. Neill
I'm sure it could be repaired, it would just probably cost more than the unit is worth. bass_ferret's suggestion is a good one
  14. Our guitarist got off lightly a couple of years back. he was turning off some wall lights whilst holding his guitar, fortunately it was a very low level shock and he didn't have his hand gripped around either the guitar neck or the lights. He needed 15 minutes to stop shaking though, and to this day refuses to go anywhere near the lights in that venue. (So i turn them all off. Without touching anything else plugged in elsewhere!)
  15. Cool, we both linked the same thing, shows we're not talking bollocks. Or something
  16.
Still thinking Merton, it's just the weight of the thing.. Soooo tempted, and have the cash
The weight is the main reason I'm selling it, other than the fact I really don't need a 2nd combo at the moment. It's a big consideration. But you're young and healthy
  17.
Does anyone know of somewhere I could get a decent cover for my Fender Pro 400 combo?
http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=29270
  18.
just a note on finger positioning...when I play it, it may not be perfect but it's damn close to the original and I find it easiest to play the main riff in 2nd position. I know it's a bit of a stretch but i find it sounds better and it loosens up my hand nicely for the rest of the set. I'm prepared for the flaming re. using finger-per-fret up close to the nut, but it's not caused me any troubles...merely a suggestion on this ace song.
Flame!! Nope. I do the same as you actually
Do you get any brownie points from the agency for that?
Do we f**k. Actually, that's not fair, they just always seem to offer us gigs when we've already booked one ourselves.
  20.
I've got an Ashdown ABM EVO III combo which I thinks sounds superb, however I was chatting to a fellow bassist in the studio about the speakers Ashdown use and was told that if I liked the sound i'm getting now i'll love the sound of my amp with a Celestion tru vox (think that is what he said) in it. Like I said I think the amp sounds great at the mo, but the chat I had has got me wondering..... can anyone suggest a replacement speaker for my amp???
If you like it why change it? Don't let GAS get the better of you!!
Wat do you do whan you are already booked for a date? We have a long list of helpful people we give out to the punters...
We refer them to an agency.
  22.
+1 for 3 winds, and yes I am a bit particular about my leads too... GOT to be curled up using the cable's natural twist. If I see anyone winding a lead round their elbow, I get very uneasy.
+1 I spend about twice as long as all other band members getting leads away tidily coz of this!

We're dead next year, but we don't mind coz our lead singer is having a baby in Jan and I'm having one in April (well, my gf is!)... I think we're dead next year coz last year was sooo manic that we conciously stepped back a bit this year and put our prices up to do fewer gigs for more money. That means fewer referrals, which is where 90% of our gigs come from at a guess.
  24.
I think Trace should whack together a few wedge cabs with 12 and 15 inch drivers.
I have to say I doubt I'd be able to tell the difference between power amp circuits. As you say, mid-soing mid-set it's just a bass sound, no-one else cares anyway!
  25. Jesus. Glad you're still with us and generally OK. My RCD is going to come out of the case and be used tomorrow rather than come along and be forgotten.
