My local Sainsbury's does the Grolsch bottles. Well, it did 'em before so I assume it still does. I will happily buy some, quaff the beer and send the straplocks

South East Bass Bash, Saturday 27th September: NEW INFO!
Merton replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Events
URGENT NEWS:- For some reason, the rooms where the Bash is happening on Saturday have changed and we will now be in: Onslow Suite 1 & 2 The Onslow Suite(s) are located in the Academy area of the Holiday Inn site and The Academy has it's own car park on the left hand side as you drive into the Holiday Inn (if you're coming by car that is). Once parked, you go into the lobby of the Academy and the Onslow Suites will be to your left. Access is apparently very easy! There is a bar and restaurant close by to the Onslow Suites and also, a lounge area if you need a bit of quiet time or want to have a chat etc! Here's a link to the Holiday Inn web page which has more info: http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/hi/925/en...ps-_-hi-_-guisu Nik
Cheers Nik. Why couldn't they tell me that last week?! Sounds like we'll be a bit more secluded from the rest of the buildings which is a good thing -
Shame...but it's good to know that it was the not the fact we got Neil in the band that put you off :-)
Well, I didn't like to say... Neil's a good guy, never heard him play coz he's so shy about it but he keeps coming to my gigs. I'll make it one day

South East Bass Bash, Saturday 27th September: WORKSHOPS
Merton replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Events
The Holiday Inn does indeed have a bar with bar snacks, so they told me anyway... Looking forward ot this, it's gonna rock! Thanks to Nik for being the head honcho iwithout whom it would have never happened -
Well for a few years I've been using my Trace 1X15 combo with and without extension speakers with the compression at about 2 o'clock, preshape always on and a nice smiley face EQ (I know it's become unfashionable to be smiley but it works for me). HOWEVER my biggest (and relatively cheap fix) improvement in quality of tone was after buying a Hartke Bass Attack DI/tone pedal. Never gig without it now, you can hear the lows and highs, nice mids the, the lot. I'd challenge anyone not to be able to get a good sound from it.
Yeah, either that or the SABDDI would be a good choice. Or a DHA pedal
I've got an eden nemesis N8 which is a great practice amp at 40 watts. What about a nemesis combo as you use eden already?
One of my students has one of these (coz I recommended it based on you saying how good it was), and it is! Fine little practice amp for the money
-
The 400 Watt 8 * 10 easily has enough to go against a loud drummer and 2 Mesa 4 * 12 Guitarists in my band . One of the great things about the 8 * 10 format is that it is so clear on stage due to the speaker being so tall and near ear height.
Aye, I imagine this combo is quite a different kettle of fish from my rig, probably more volume than you need by a fair bit! I'd be tempted myself if I wasn't in sell mode
-
Sorry to hear that For everyone else, final word on the rigs is due this weekend, watch this space for some news
I would use a port tube to give the hole a neat and finished edge, obviously the port tube can be cut to suit the length you need, or simply used to mask the hole edge
Aye, but I can't find a port tube with the right diameter! So found some black pipe instead and cut two bits to size... 6cm diameter port tube anyone?
-
Perfect, cheers! Thought not, just needed clarification and couldn't think how to word it as a google search coz I'm having a thick year.

Hello! This is really for Alex and BFM (plus anyone else who knows). So I'm going to be building a 1x15 cab which is designed to be identical to the 1x15 "cab" in my V-Type combo. Yes yes, small enclosure, not much bottom end etc, but I like the sound I get from it and it's bloody loud. So the question is this. The combo is rear ported. I'm not convinced my woodworking skills are good enough/tidy enough to rear-port my cab, so therefore wondered about front-porting instead. This means I can hide the ports behind the speaker grille so any making good will be less obvious. Suddenly the cabs are no longer identical, HOWEVER I do know that port position is a moot point (i.e. you can put them where you want them). But will it have any bearing on the phase relationships at f3 etc, if one is rear-ported and one front-ported? My head says nay (i.e. it won't make a difference), but I want to have an expert tell me the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth

How much swapping of basses goes on here?
Merton replied to Annoying Twit's topic in General Discussion
It happens lots. I own a Groove 5 previously owned by Wigfinder General (RIP) and soon to be owned by silverfoxnik. I own a Trace 4x8 combo previously owened by presoulnation and before that wildus and soon to be owned by....??? -
Wow! Fish and chips served on the potty .. Posh people reallly know how to live, eh? We played one of those gigs a few years back. Posh portatloos with paintings, had to go outside for the burger van an air rifle stall, though ... .
Funny one last night, we did a 40th birthday party in a garden in Oxted. 2 doors down was a 21st party with an (apparently) crap band - so much so that half their guests appeared at our party to enjoy our sets instead... Was bloody cold by the end, no heaters anywhere to be seen. So cold that my amp and pedal power supplies weren't even warm after 6 hours of being switched on... Plus points - weird posh portaloos with fully flushing toilets, carpet and classical music piped in, and a fish'n'chip van. Hooray! Friday was at the Crow's Nest in East Grinstead, was a fairly standard night there but I took my fretless along and had a giggle with that all night. Not sure anyone noticed, which I take to be a good thing (i.e. I can play in tune!!)
