1. That looks awesome. Wish I'd had time over the last 3 months to do more than a tiny amount of work on Kev's 1x8 cab and then start my 1x15 If mine turn out half as good as this then I'll be happy
  2.
Hi Folks, It's been a busy week (as per usual) and sometimes when it all gets too stressful, the first thing I think of when going home that I know will chill me out is picking up a bass and having a noodle around for half an hour! But it doesn't usually pan out that way because the first thing that happens when I walk through the door is kids/family mayhem etc, etc, and quite rightly so as they come first. Which means I tend to skulk around much later on practicing the bass with the headphones on, which is never quite the same thing. Is it just me with this scenario or does this sound all too familiar to anyone else?? Nik
Yep, and for me it'll get worse come April next year!! I tend to use the post 9pm time - when Nic is in bed too (being all pregnant as she is) - to do my practice on my acoustic bass.
  3.
hi there, i have a ported 2x10 cab, but i was wondering if i could use it in conjunction with a sealed 4x10 cab to get the 4ohms from my head. is this a good idea, or is mixing ported and sealed cabs a bit like mixing neo and ceramic speakers; i.e. not done? many thanks for your help
1. I've never read that you shouldn't mix ceramic and neo magnets!! 2. I use a ported and a sealed cab at the moment and it sounds brilliant - a 4x8 (sealed) and a 1x15 (ported). If it sounds good, it probably is good
  4.
I know they're stupidly cheap compared to your other choices but check out the new Hartke LH500 and LH1000 heads. They're fantastic sounding amps, regardless of price but the price is the bargain of the decade. With the onboard EQ and inherently growly tone of your Warwicks the admittedly limited EQ and mellow fat tone of the Hartkes could prove an ideal match. Alex
+ the one.

  6.
The back panel schematic says "manufactured in PRC for Ashdown Engineering" Peoples Republic of Colorado??
It also says 500W RMS, but it's 400W according tot he blurb. Methinks they've done the usual trick of not quite getting all the information right online...
  7. BTA400 BTA standing for Big Tube Amp apparently. Made in the USA... Wonder how expensive it'll be over here. And how long it'll take to arrive
  8.
This, to me, is playing in the 'pocket'.. as tight as a gnat's arse!! IMO!!
Hell yes.
  9.
I've already used Mike on one of my gigs and he's brilliant. Knew the songs better than the rest of the band!
+1 - he also know the songs better than me!
  10. Battery would be my first guess too, but... does the bass work with your Trace combo?
  11. Status do one for £51 + VAT and shipping.
  12. The V-Type looks so small and dinky in comparison to the older bits! Wish it was as light

    ..

Essentially it's a ported version of the cab in my old Trace V-Type combo (Matt's now!). Bloody good it'll sound, I can guarantee that! Prob also similar to the 4x8 Trace cab I have, but that is sealed and with lower power drivers. A damn fine buy for someone methinks.

    Pre Gig Rituals
Most of the band are too busy checking out the totty to worry about the gig.....
That's certainly my pre-gig ritual. Plus OCD hand washing coz I like clean hands when I'm playing bass.
  15. I read the title as a coach that sings. That would be impressive, heading down the motorway, then you overtake a coach singing "Nessun Dorma" at the top of its voice. Sorry, that was poorer than Arsenal's defending in the last 5 minutes last night. I'll check with a couple of singers I know, see who they recommend
  16. overwater#1 (or Matt as he's more commonly known to his family) has been a pleasure to deal with. Top bloke, dead easy transaction and highly recommended. Cheers Matt, hope you enjoy the combo
  17.
Worst was when my gear was 'borrowed' at one shared billing at the Clapham Grand and I went absolutely mental at the promoter after I came down from the dressing room. I was watching the twat playing through it redlining the power amp section. Luckily for them both there was no permanent damage.
Good ol' Feedme Music. i told them once under no circumstances whatsoever was my stuff to be used by anyone else, only to experience a very similar thing - bass player with huuuuge distortions practically f**king up the tweeter right in front of my eyes. "er, what?" "Oh yeah, he just sort of plugged in". Well he f**king shouldn't have done. So I told him to sod off.
  18.
Actually it said the person that put the quiz together is an idiot - not in so many words, but the clues were there.
God yeah. Smelling piskates and grammatical bollocks, not to mention dubious maths: You Scored as Victor Wooten Victor Wooten 58% Jaco Pastorius 42% Micheal "Flea" Balzary 25% Pete Wentz 25% John Myung 17%

    Colours!

    Black or natural please
  20. Can't make this Friday but are you up Redhill way anytime soon?
  21. When I had a Trace 12-band head (admittedly a 1999 model) I could push the input gain all the way up and not overdrive the preamp, this is with 18V active basses. So I think you'll find it may just have a massive amount of headroom! The preshape button isn't an EQ defeat, it sets an additional "preshape" curve to the EQ sliders. But you've figured that out already...
  22.
SSSSSSSSSSSSOLD!!! Can't wait..!! More Tracey Stuff!! Cheers Merton.... This guy has been an absolute pleasure to deal with, as i've asked a million and one questions about the amp, and he's always replied promptly with detail, and has been just a top guy throughout! Thankyou very much for the help mate, i'l be filling in you're feedback thread too!! Matt
Cheers Matt - just got your email re. cheque too so thanks for that too! Matt has also been a pleasure to do biz with, I think he was worried he was pissing me off with questions but I really do think when spending out on an amp you have the right to ask what you want! Top fella
  23.
+1 for let your ears decide, they are more reliable than other people's opinions
I like that, good wordsmithing!
  24.
Another gig at the Priory
Bugger, this time I really DO have a band practice, would love to be able to come and stay for the whole set
  25. Trace Elliots of the new millenium are designed by Paul Stevens, the guy who designed the legendary Trace V8. The circuit boards are made in Essex, I guess the cabinets are too, though they may be manufactured at the peavey/Trace HQ in Corby, Northants. I've spent several hours on the phone talking to the MD of the company who does the PCBs for Trace and I can guarantee that the build quality will be second to none. Yes they had a few early production glitches but they're definitely sorted now. As Buzz said, the stigma is really attached to the Gibson era stuff (1997-2002ish) where they let buyers purchase cheaper, inferior components which led to poor reliability.
