1. Er, so the point was that yes you can get stiffer pots...
 2. My knob is stiff all the time. Erm, the volume control on my Retroactive, that is.
 3.
Typical, last night's gig wedding in a well known Castle near Tadcaster. Asked nicely for our promised food early, they brought us 1 sandwich each (ie 2 slices of bread cut into 4) and a bowl of chips for us all.
I hate gigs like that, especially weekday ones after a day at work.
 4. You can use the volume on your bass to turn down tho.. That will help But, yes, pedantry aside it would actually put me off too.
 5. Haven't had a chance to listen yet Al, I'll let you know tonight!
 6. Cheers Dave, will check them out tonight. Good idea
 7.
I think we'll need some 250gauge strings and a 160" scale length to keep that tuning! We can then pick a note each for the chord at the end, it'll be grrrreat!
I'll take the "top" C
 8.
pics of that bellamyesque thing!
I'll dig one out if I can find one, I may only have the prints.. (My lil sis made it for me as part of her portfolio of stage costumes...)
 9. I've worn some hideous shirts, and I have a Matt Bellamy-esque costume with big red sleeves, collar and tails which is awesome. So, silly clothes sometimes, yes.
 10.
REVELATION I rehearsed last night with the band, and decided to try the afore mentioned sad face on the graphic, boost the mids etc. Awesome sound, instantly!! I'm just knocked out. I'd tried all kinds of settings, but never got what I wanted from the amp, to the point where I put it up for sale thinking I'd never get what I wanted. A couple of pointers from you guys and I've got the perfect tone, the Norman Watt-Roy punch that I was after. Thanks to all the above comments, it was, needless to say, very very useful in the end. Anyone else with a graphic they can't suss out, or get the sound they want from, try the sad face, not the smiley face I expected to use. Boost the mids, the mids are your friend. So between the Lakland DJ, Fender Jazz and the Trace, I've all of a sudden got the sound I wanted live, in spades.
Brilliant news!
 11.
err....i think i know what you're going to say, but, why is that?
Me too...
 12.
I'm up for that - we could have a go at this little tune I discovered
Awesome. I lost count of the number of ledger lines tho.
 13.
when will you be doing a What's Hot/What's Not list re. cabs?
When I decide who I'm listening to the most Only kidding. Will have a chat to the other organisers and we'll prob make the definitive list a week before if everyone's cool with that?
 14. I put these up for recycling about 9 months ago but circumstances forced me to withdraw. This time they really have got to go: 2 seater sofa, armchair and a poof. No, not one of those ones. Green, very comfy. Not this nicest things to look at and certainly not in the best nick but they're dry, clean and free to the first person who rocks up with a van! Might be getting rid of an Ikea wardrobe too...
 15.
I might as well bring the GB head too, it fits in the gig bag.
Excellent, I don't think we have one of those on the list and it's a "must hear" for a lot of people
 16.
As many of us have active basses the question is irrelevant. Yes I do use the tone controls on my active basses. Sometime I use them alot, sometime I dont use them at all. Depends on the gig, songs, venue, what mood I am in, time of the month etc.....
+ the 1
 17.
By the way, who is taking the V8?
CraziKiwi, if he can make it
 18.
Then again you can't really go wrong with a such a tried and tested preamp design allied to a hefty power amp.
Aye, that's what I was thinking - as far as I can see it's similar to the Trace V-Type preamp therefore something I know and love!
 19.
I'm 99% sure its plywood, it's a solid as a rock
Not wishing to cause issues but my (admittedly later) version was MDF...
 20.
Perhaps a leg might tempt you.......
Already have 3, but cheers
 21.
It's not about it being boring.. it's about learning everything about the instrument you love.. and furthing you musical knowledge and ability to improvise.. and KNOW what you're playing rather than just playing what sounds good. I've just learnt this after playing for 6 years without a dot of theory.
Well said. Plus, if you don't know th enote names, when a guitarist says "I'm playing the chord E minor" you won't have a clue which notes go into it, or even where E is on the fretboard... Boring, maybe. Essential, almost definitely! Sorry!
 22. Cracking cab, good price! (I sold one for the same a couple of months back...) Good luck
 23.
if you wernt building me the little 1x8, id be very tempted by that 4x8...
You still may want this depending on how the 1x8 turns out!!
Oh godamnit will someone please buy my Stingray so I can have this!
Trace GAS, sir? Forgot to say, it isn't currently going to the SE Bass Bash but that is as good a place as any for swapping heavy green stuff for papery green stuff
 24.
lol the title says £500, your post says £525, which is it to be?
Arseburgers. £500 Whoops - edit time!
 25. Crap pic: (better ones to follow!) We're talking the combo on the left, not the cab on the right. V-Type preamp, 290W RMS (@ 4 ohm) MOSFET power amp. This is the best Trace amp I've ever used, the sound is slightly rounder and softer than the 1x15 version of this combo. I'm keeping the 1x15 as it's lighter and an earlier version with 250W BiPolar Bear power board. I added castors to the combo (they really are needed, this is 42kg!) and recently had four new Celestion speakers put in. Approx 180W into the internal speakers. SOLD *Earthing fix: the standard design has the preamp board AC-coupled to ground and this is a mass production fix which seems a bit, well, dumb. It's easier, cheaper, and quieter to have it DC-coupled, so that's what Steve did. It's made it quieter, and more importantly it no longer picks up power supply noise like an FM radio....
