Wal's...
Speaking of which on the comeback: http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/walba...y/message/11125 *ouch*
Ouch indeed. Hope Paul gets the support he deserves for this, he truely is a genius (I know this after he fixed my acoustic g**tar with minimal fuss where other people said it couldn't be done) and I really wouldn't want Wal to disappear forever.
  3. I have a set of Black Beauties on my Retroactive (so the whole bass is black, save for the hardware ). They look cool and sound great but they don't do it for me enough to buy another set. Status Hotwires are just that little bit more "me"! (Though I do have 6 sets of Trace Elliot strings to experiment with...)
  4.
I don't wish to hijack this thread, but which of the cheaper, less powerful Trace Elliot heads (including the old ones) would you recommend?
Anything up to the early SMX ranges. Preferably Series 6 and either 7- or 12-band
  5.
A bit like Marmite perhaps (you either love it or hate it) but Ashdown do a good selection of wearables on their website and the t-shirts are pretty good quality. "Well, that makes a change" I can imagine some people saying.....
I have an Ashdown tracksuit top which is pretty cool. The best thing I've owned of theirs (except the old MAG 4x10 with Celestions which was stonkingly good for the money).
  6.
..said bass is now part of the Collection! Awesome! 6 strings and more wood than Wickes! Nick
Sweeeeeet
  7.
Pearl Jam - Ten seems to have made it's way back onto the car stereo.

Yes - Manic Street Preachers. Probably my favourite song off The Holy Bible, a truely underrated album.
Must dig both of those out again, not listenend to them for ages. THB is my fave Manics album, they went rapidly downhill after that IMO.
  8. I'm listening to the airconditioning whirring. Not allowed music on in the office EDIT: in the car on the way home I will be mostly listing to Voodoo 6 tho
  9. Have a look HERE
  10. It's all about my Status Retroactive. The best bass I've ever played, bar none.
  11.
It's the sound you'll be left with when you've forgotten the price.
+1
  12.
OK all you Status experts,I own a Groove,in 3 tone sunburst, and it's the Dachshunds danglers! Low action, great tone, great neck. Anyone else got one?

Merton is the one to talk to about Grooves. He has two - One fretted and one fretless.
That I do. A fretted 5 in black and a fretless 4 in "midnight wine". The fretless was the last "real" Groove made (i.e. one with a wooden neck!), about 2-3yrs after they stopped manufacturing them. Rob found enough bits left to "cobble it together" and in his own words "it turned out really nicely". Erm, understatement, it was the bass which converted me to Status Since then he's done at least 2 more with their MM-replacement graphite necks, but they don't count..
  13.
Otherwise, Status basses spring to mind. The rigidity of the grapite necks makes keeping the board very straight and stable very easy, so Rob Green always sets them up at the optimum height - Ie., very low
Big plus 1. My Retroactive has ht elowest action I've ever been able to get away with (coz I hit the bass so hard!!)
  14. Nope. As originally Posted by Alex: You can use any power ouput amp with any power handling cab. If any of these combinations makes bad sounds then turn down and/or stop cranking the bass EQ excessively or damage may occur
  15.
Tomorrow we have 2 hours to set up and soundcheck before the meal, then we get to prop up the bar and eat food for 3 hours before the first dance
Famous last words. We turn up with the dancefloor int he area we were suposed to be setting up in. 45 mins later they have finally moved it under one of the dinner tables and we can set up. I was also told that the afternoon drinks reception before the meal was in the hotel garden "at the other end of the building to where you're setting up." Try right outside the f**king window!! So soundcheck was a little shorter than normal... But other than that the whole thing went swimmingly well and everyone loved us
Went to Nottingham Arena last night to see Thunder, Whitesnake, Def Leppard. I especially went to see Thunder and Whitesnake, but Def Leppard stole the show with a great set and stage setup/lighting. The bass player in Leppard had the most awesome bass sound I have ever witnessed, stacks of Ashdown cabs each side of the stage. The bottom end coming out of the PA made your stomach rumble and made the old trouser legs flap.
Oh yeah Saw Lep and Snake at Wembley last month and it was awesome. Sav's sound is indeed huge, he's finally sorted it out after years of weedy nothingness coming out of the PA!!
  16. This better? (sorry for its size, not on my PC and there seems to be f**k all imaging software on here!)
  17.
Is this for the whole rig or just for the 1x15? The picture is abit misleading if it is the latter
Just the 1x15 - it does say so in the thread title and right below the picture! I can't get another picture at the mo coz it's in my band's storage place, but will try tomorrow.
  18. Hooray! Someone's got a nice deal on a Status
  19.
I've only got 2 now!
And when I get enough money to prise the blue one off you you'll only have one EDIT: or was it the red one I liked (the one you've jsut sold?!)?
  20. Biggest stage? Probably the Exit Festival Future Shock Stage in 2006. Biggest venue? Buggered if I can remember. Smallest stage? The Arts Theatre in Soho - also the smallest venue, it's a dive and I laughed heartily when I arrived after being told what a "professional" place it was by the promoter.
hummmmmm Best have a trawl through my band websites thread then (linked from my sig) sorry I've not edited it since the move from BW, hey, it's only been a year Worth the read though, or so I am told.
Cheers will do. I remember it from the BW days coz you pointed out all our sites failings then but we just haven't done anything about it I'm embarrassed to say. Time for me to take executive action!!
  22.
Booked us a good year ago and we had all the normal conversations about liking about 2 hours to setup and sound check, once we gain access to the room, more if it's up stairs etc . Couple came to see us play elsewhere and were dead keen. Then about 4 weeks ago a "wedding organiser" got involved. "You'll start playing at 7:59, You will play until precisely 9:15 when something else will happen and I need your set list to co-ordinate with everything else" Eh? "Start at 7.59? Sure, if you can give us cleared room and unfettered access to the stage area at 5:59" "Oh but the speeches don't start til 6.45 so you'll get in at about 7" 7? wedding speeches that start on time and only take 15? ROTFL At this point I was wondering if the wedding organiser had ever done a wedding reception with a band ... "OK well we'll set up as fast as we possibly can but, after 15 years of doing this, I can tell you that it's extremely unlikely that we'll be ready to go much before about, say 1hour and 59 minutes after we gain access to the room ... oh and that's what I've been telling the bride and groom for about a year now, and it's not changed ..." It went on "Did we really need 2 hours? Could we play CD's through the PA whilst we setup and sound check? Could we come in before the reception to setup up and then hang around for 5 hours before playing (yes, but that's 4 times the normal fee 'cos then we can't go to work that day and we are very very expensive consultants on a massively huge daily rate - liar!)
I love that conversation with the hotels. "The meal starts at 5.30, speeches are 6.30 and you're on at 7 for the first dance. You can set up after the speeches". "Remind me the number of guests?" says I. "120". "120 people, 3 course meal in an hour. Speeches lasting negative 1 hour - impossible. We'll see!" I seem to remember starting the first dance at 9.... We ask for an absolute min of 1 hour but prefer two. Tomorrow we have 2 hours to set up and soundcheck before the meal, then we get to prop up the bar and eat food for 3 hours before the first dance
