1. Nik, when you next up at the Crow's Nest?
  2. Blimey. Funny to think about 3 weeks ago I was seriously considering opening a bass shop but decided against looking into it too hard coz I figured everything would go the way of the web and telefunken machine
  3. Playing a charity gig last year we were asked to play Happy Birthday for Michael Buerk (of BBC News and 999 fame) Newton Faulkner supported my function band a few times back in 2003/2004. "Yeah, but he's not Eric Roche" was all our drummer kept reminding us. Our drummer hates him (Faulkner), for various (allegedly) good reasons which i can't go into on here for legal reasons. EDIT: should that second one be in the other thread? Sorry!
  4.
She's a sweet girl, her band supported mine a couple years back. Her band put on a 'show' and they entertain..... and they BELIEVE in what they do. Can't say fairer that that....!
They're fairly local to me, they drive round in a really cool "rocked-up" hearse (well i can't call it bling, that's the wrong term, they're not chavs!)
  5. Our gig last night was weird. It was the 40th birthday of our old head of music (2 other guys in my band were in my year at school, we've known each other for EVER!). the gig was in the new purpose-built music building. When we were at school in the 90's we had 3 portacabins!! So, lots of old teachers we recognised, some of whom recognised us too. Lots of reminiscing about "old times". And lots of me coughing, wheezing and sneezing as my chest infection took total control of me. How i managed two and a half hours I will never know. Sound checking: 'Twas a good gig, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and the dancefloor was packed all night. The new songs we've added to the set went well (especially Footloose, love it!!)
  6. I promised this last week, and now I can unveil my 2 rigs (hooray!) and I can bleat on about how chuffed i am with them and how they totally give me "my" sound. Gotta love those valves This is my rig for all gigs non-function band related. The combo is my latest addition to my amplifactory arsenal, and much like the other one, I love it. Nice simple pre-amp, get a really gorgoeus growl from it and it just generally sings. The 4x8"s are really cool, the sound is fuller than you'd think coz of a nice slow roll-off of LF what with it being a sealed cab. Yummy. My function band rig. If needed I'll add the 1x15" cab as above but never have doen yet. And yes, that is a Marshall Mode Four next to it. There's one on the other side of the stage too: From last night's gig (everyone wave to Oli please). I have a really nasty chest infection at the mo so not entirely sure how I survived
  7.
Steve emailed me on Wednesday (he's working on a 1968 Kustom head for me) - so he's around but maybe just not in today?
I'm just impatient, he's just called Popping in to see him with my poorly amp on Sunday Cheers!
  8.
I had to see Steve today, this time to repair and service my Mesa Boogie. Fantastic service once more. Recommended (again) without reservation. Hamster
Is Steve still around? No answer to emails or phone, need his amp surgery skills!!
  9. Can't beleive I've missed this thread! 1. Vester Stage Series Jazz bass - my first bass, it's nothing special but sentimental value only 2. MIM Fender Jazz V - sold in 2006. Great bass but bloody heavy. 3. Status Groove Fretless - the last "real" wood neck Groove, started my love affair with this make 4. Dean Edge 1 - my first Dean bass, sold as I got an "endorsement" so got... 5. Dean Edge Q4 - gorgeous bass, excellet VFM, wish I hadn't flogged it 6. Status Groove 5 string - replaced the Jazz as it is a far better bass for me in every way - light, playable, great tone 7. Status Retroactive J - "custom" built for me last year, my main bass and I adore it. Blue ones have gone, black ones will NEVER be sold. Promise

    presoulnation

Just a nice cheery positive for Jamie, top bloke to deal with and lots of communication which is always nice. Just bought the Trace V-Typ 4x8 combo off him; he's a true gent. Cheers man, you're a star and it was a pleasure. Now to enjoy 2 V-Type combos together... EDIT: to delete the bit I got wrong!
  11.
Hmmm, that sounds more traumatic than is funny. I only came here to make a joke about a shortscale with a huge bottom end I've been GASing over recently.
I think you'll find GASing over her may put her off.
  12.
christ, been having a little gander on the net and schroeder are LOUD. Dave, if yo uwere in my position, looking at various makes, (MB,GK,Warick,Epifany, and now schroeder) which do you find has the best tone?
Mike, everyone has different opinions so asking "which has the best tone" will give as many responses as there are bass amp manufacturers!! e.g. I hate the Ashdown tone and love the Trace sound but I know plenty of people with other opinions. Best is to try lots for yourself. You seem to like the MB stuff so that's a damn fine place to start!
  13. I can't just choose one, so: Eric Kretz (former STP drummer) coz he's sooo laid back it's great Dave Weckl Matt Cameron
  14.
*FANFARE* Just taken delivery of a Mark Bass F1 ;o) . I have a rack mount kit on its way, so will be putting it in a rack case with my TC Gforce. Nothing else! The amp, as you can see is sat upon an Epifani UL-610. Now, can I just take a few moments to dispell any myths. INCLUDING some preconceived views (yeh, mine too) on what this amp may sound like. I am the first to admit that MarkBass and I did not start off on the right foot. I tried a few MB rigs and just couldnt get on with the sound. I later found, much like Ampeg, all MB cabs have a 'tone' to them.. Sadly a tone I don't like. Now the Epifani does have it's own tone too.. infact, most cabs do in one way or another.. maybe the Epi is just less intrusive. So, anyway.. I thought there is NO WAY that such a small box can keep up with a LOUD band in a studio live room (yep.. a noisey environment). I can catagorically confirm this amp is tastefully LOUD LOUD LOUD.. and very HiFi clean too ;o) [edit] for info, it's 500W RMS into 4 Ohms I discovered the VLE andd VPF controls to be uber useful. I have renamed them to 'The Ampeg Control' - sounds a bit like a Sansamp when you go too far with them.. I suspect that was the idea! I may keep the 2k powersoft amp to use should I need to play the odd stadium with a set of 8x10's, but I am surprised and excited to say I may have finally arrived wih my gear. I shudder to think how much I have spent over the years, I really do. Oh.. and the F1 has a pair of purpley blue LEDs ;o) I must just say a big thankx to ma man Deano at The Bass Centre for being bl**dy brilliant and sorting me out with new toys AGAIN. I'll write a decent review when I get round to it!
Very nice Dan! My "new rig" pics are coming tomorrow hopefully

    BASS BASH MARCH 2008
Great news Ped! And I can make it too... so I'm proposing that any Basschatters down on the 'sarf coast' consider travelling up together and sharing a minibus, which I can hire relatively cheaply..Don't mind sharing the driving either? Geography wise, me and WalMan are in Littlehampton which is 20 miles west of Brighton.. Who's nearby and fancies a Bass Spods Day out to this then?? Nik
Do you reckon it could come up the M23 and pick me up on route? I'll let you play my Groove the whole way there...

    BASS BASH MARCH 2008

Bring the BFC Dave? Of course! I should be able to make it too at the mo. I'll bring my Grooves and Retroactive plus my Trace valve combos. Oh yes, the unveiling of the second one of those will be later this week in the relvant thread....
  17. Cracking amp, I have one driving some form of Mission flor standers in my living room Bedroom hifi amp is a Musical Fidelity A1 tho, and that is even better
  18.
I voted Sunday because I won't be able to travel to Northampton on a saturday when i have a gig in the evening. I'm guessing there'll be less of a chance of people gigging on the sun night than the sat night Si
+1 from me too
  19. It' not happened for a few years, but my "main" band is a wedding/function band and my "other" band is an originals band. If there is a clash then I try to do the first one offered, but if it really comes down to neither band wanting to budge I get a dep in the function band Thesedays the originals band is quite good at avoiding gigs on dates I already have, my old originals band never saw it in the same light.
  20.
It went on ebay, and in a prickish feat of prickness decided not to mention it on here, and now it is mine. I know, I'm a prick.
Not at all. Glad you got it in the end after all the fun in the sale!
  21. Might well pop in for my first (gasp!) trip there, am playing at the Water Rats tomorrow so I'm in the right sort of place. London, that is.
  22.
You could do Lotus colours.
I was gonna suggest this one. How about the Marlboro McLarens from the 80s?
  23.
Dude, it says Peavey on the front. Peavey is gearspeak means "goes for ever and cheap to fix when it breaks"
+1 A good first rig to have methinks
  24. Less than two hours to go. The reserve is probably too high so if it gets to £200 i'll let it go and someone is going to get a bloody bargain!
  25.
Grab the eden Nemesis thats on ebay atm! Great tone and wont let you down!
MY Eden Nemesis!!! Yeah, get that, only 5 hours left...
