Ok, Im going to drop the price and see if anyone becomes more tempted. Otherwise it'll go as a trade-in against the head Im having. Hows £375 sound? I just want the fella to go to a good home.. Andy
F**k me, if I come on here drunk on Friday I'm buggered, I'll have just been paid, and well, you know....
And the chances of getting a 12 band for £400? Maybe pre Peavey ones. Andy
Yeah, my current (pre Gibson design, Gibson era build) 12-band head was £250. But a new one would be lots more. As would a new 7-band. Like I said, don't tempt me, I'm trying to save for a much much bigger box. It has a roof and windows and doors and things.
Get it, get it, get it!! And let me have the V4 combo to make room for it
Never letting my valve combo go anywhere, sorry! (and pedant tho I am, it ain't the V4 combo I'm afraid!!)
Comeon, get a bargain.. Trace Elliot is the way forward!! I have two 12 band heads and 11 band combo, do I need more..? haha..!!
TWO? When did you get a second one? And yes, £400 for this is a good price. If it was a 12-band I'd have snapped it up!

I have some Schaller PUs in my J copy (all passive), they have a higher output than my 5 string Groove bass in active mode.

New Trace Elliot combos and cabs dont always match!
Merton replied to bobpalt's topic in Amps and Cabs
Looks like there is to be a happy ending to my problem, and Trace Elliot are doing the decent thing. Whilst they wouldnt agree to swapping the 715X and 2x10 cab for a seperate head, 1x15 and 2x10 cabs, they have agreed to build me a one off, 2x10 715 combo, and swap the 2x10 cab I have for a 1x15. This should be a brilliant solution, allowing the 2x10s to sit on top of the physically deeper 1x15 cab. I did use my current set up at a gig last night, with the 2x10 on the floor, and it really didn't sound right at all, especially on a wobbly stage. Thanks to the designer, Paul, at Trace Elliot for all his help, but of course, it should never have happened in the first place!
That's jolly good of them! A totally unique Trace amp eh? B*st*rd!! -
once up to speed its a pretty simple tune but, IMHO, it gets MURDERED live from bands that play it way too fast. Sit back on it, muse don't play it any faster live. G
+1. I've seen and heard some awful versions. Take it easy, relax and it's a piece of piss

New Trace Elliot combos and cabs dont always match!
Merton replied to bobpalt's topic in Amps and Cabs
...but the thing that peeved me was that the Trace brochure clearly showed that it was possible to stack the cab on top of the combo, which would have made for a lovely, compact stack, but you can't! I thought because it was described as a compact cab, it was, in some way smaller than a normal 2 x 10?
Fair point. I think it's just "compact" coz it's a 2x10 to be honest!! IIRC the old Trace catalogues did similar silly things. Maybe they're put together by someone with no idea at all. -

I'm not surprised or amazed and don't think it's really that shocking. The old Trace stuff was the same, as is the Ashdown stuff. The cabs are generally deeper for the bass response, combos are a compromise between portability and tone. All the Trace cabs are deeper than their combos I'm afraid. -
Shame you can't make it as this was your idea! We'll put up a cardboard cut-out of you in your honour
Sounds like a plan
At £10 per head, 10 is the break even point so it looks like its a go. There are still a few other locals who haven't signed up yet - Merton? Walbassist? Wildman? plus some in London expressed an interest. It's a quick 40-minute train ride to Guildford and a 5-minute walk from the station.
Hi guys, sorry I've been so quiet, the last few weeks have been manic at work and gigging so barely been on here. Unfortunately both dates are out for me coz of gigs or weddings but have a good one (looks like the 18th has been chosen anyway)! I'll definitely make the next one, promise...
To be fair, most of those suggestions are just simple basslines - which doesn't make them crap per se. A crap bassline IMHO is one that actually detracts from a song.
+1. Or something which is out of time or out of tune (which is unforgiveable thesedays!). Simple basslines are effective supporting other parts of the music, ook they may be boring but they're not by default "crap"

Er, early Ashdowns used Celestions (my old MAG cab had 'em and the Klystrons did), but all the Blueline speakers are made in Italy to Ashdwon specs, the name of the comapny has escaped me for a second tho. Don't know if the ABM series (as opposed to the original Klystrons) came out before or after the Blueline speakers tho.
Anyways, I'm surprised Gibson keep sending BGM stuff to review. I don't think I've ever seen a Gibson bass get more than a 3 star rating. I really liked the "Aches and Pains" article. I've been having a bit of lower back problems from carrying my gear around London. Osteopathy sounds life fun...
Yeah, that was good. Chiropractic care has transformed my left arm from a (random) jibbering wreck of pain into perfection. Osteopathy is more about muscles, chiropractic is about the bones and alignment, therefore allowing the nerves the room to operate correctly. And it all helps

Bought some strings, even my credit card being frozen for no apparent reason didn't stop a might fine smooth transaction, cheers!

Dec 2001 Gibson stops production of Trace Elliot amps, rebadging some as Gibson amps
Awesome post, nice one! The one Q I have is about the Gibson era 12-band stuff - were there really 2 versions of it?? Also, i swear I remember being at uni in my first year when the Gibson buy-out was announced, but that was Oct/Nov 1999.... How my brain is muddled
The SMC 7 band range came out in January 1998. Gibson acquired Trace in October 1998. Yours is a pre-Gibson design and built under Gibson ownership. The Gibson ownership is unlikely to have had any effect whatsoever on the quality of the amps built by the time yours was.
You're right. I got me dates muddled up. Sorry!
Hey guys, As I've mentioned numerous times over in bassworld, I've finally decided to sell on my Trace Elliot combo for something lighter and more compact. I'm pretty much already set on what I'm going to replace it with, however I'm not really sure what it's worth. I'm probably going to end up trading it in, as the basschat marketplace has been a bit slow of late. Could anyone offer me some advice as to what it's worth?... It's a Trace Elliot 7215 SMC 300W 15" Combo. I'm pretty sure I got it new in 99 and it's pre-gibson, however I might be wrong.. Here's a few pics >> Here's the all important serial number too >> It's seen very very light use, never been even near halfway volume-wise, and only been gigged a few times, only recently too. It's in almost immaculate condition bar a couple of scratches on the metal grill. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Eude
Made in March 1999 (399 on the end of the serial) so pre-Gibson design and build, yes. Price? Not sure. About £300 maybe, poss £400? God knows, I'm useless at pricing things.

+1. We use them for various bits of PA gear for the function band, cracking to deal with on the phone and in the store. Croydon is at least!
Hi Guys N Gals, This is really for all the London based members, but anyone who is in London this friday is open to this. Im playing at the Clapham Grand in London on friday, 15th june, from 8pm. It is possibly the biggest gig I have ever played, at a very good venue that has previously hosted acts such as Oasis and Razorlight. It would fantastic if anyone can come along, ill happily have a ber and a chat afterwards as its a great chance to meet other bassworlders. We need a decent crowd as we are having some professional photography done and Natalie has a load of spare tickets going, so im really trying to find out if anyone fancies coming down tomorrow night? Might even let you have a bash on my gear too! Will be bringing my Jazz and my Hartke Rig, which includes my new AKG WMS 400 wireless which is fantastic. Address is: The Grand, 21-25 St John's Hill Clapham Junction London SW11 1TT PM for directions if needed. Tickets are £8 on the door, or £6 reserved via Natalie's website - www.natalielong.co.uk. If you email Natalie, via her website, you might be able to negotiate a discount as she is trying to flog tickets on the cheap, so I reckon you can get them for £4. Once again, its going to be the biggest gig ive done with natalie so far, and im really looking forward to it. If any London based Basschatters can make it, id love to meet you and would be awesome if you can support us! Cheers Luke
As I've already said, good luck dude! it's a cracking venue, I play there a fair bit and love it. Air con makes it a bit chilly during sound checks tho!! Would love to come but am off to the IoW to play a wedding so will have to miss out :-( Say "Hi" to Paula from Feedme if she's about (er, it's Mert from Cengiz... That'll confuse her). Tip: Good Morning Vietnam is just about 20 seconds form the Grand, best place for a meal between soundcheck and giggage. Really good value, don't be greedy and get start and big main coz you'll never finish it all!
