Different Genres - Same or Different Gear for Each?
Merton replied to Lozz196's topic in General Discussion
Agree, and I know that's possibly counter-intuitive to my own reply here. As I said though, I'd be happy with any of my basses in any of the situations it's just that I tend to favour one over another. Frankly, I probably only need the Zoot or Finn 4 and it (whichever "it" be) would do for everything, but where's the fun in only having one toy if you like collecting pretty things -
Different Genres - Same or Different Gear for Each?
Merton replied to Lozz196's topic in General Discussion
I have too much equipment all being told, and some is designed for specific things but I would be happy using all of it in all the various situations I have. That being said, this is what it seems to naturally fall into: Function band: ACG Finn 5, Zoot Funkmeister Rock covers band: ACG TKO, ACG Skelf, Zoot Original Pop/punk band: Zoot, ACG TKO Blues band: Zoot, ACG Finn 4, Conway Taranis fretless Kids rock band: ACG Finn 4, Zoot Bass rig: Glock Blue Rock and a variety of Barefaced X10 cabs, used for all bands. Pedals: one board to rule them all 🤓 -
Just emailed Trace/Peavey for an update...

Your best (and worst!) bass gear purchases of 2021?
Merton replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
I have one now too. It’s great because it’s so small I’ve managed to add another pedal onto my board 🤓 More importantly the display is a nice big bold bright clear thing which my crappy eyesight can’t miss 😄 -
I have to say I pay very little attention to the VU, it’s not actually as useful as a clip LED etc, it’s more just a nice thing to look at

Ditto. Always thought I wanted a clean tone. Spent the last 3 years wanting anything but, though now I'm in a function band again I need to reign it in occasionally haha. A little drive goes a long way IMO, and the Ashdown OriginAL pedal, if handled delicately, can give you that.

Oooh yeah, that will kick donkey!

I wonder if Brex** has anything to do with stock delays on the continent. Or if they’re just caught up in the wider supply chain delays (which let’s face it, is more likely). I’m quite tempted by the Digbeth pre pedal and also contemplating the DB200 head as a “little gig” option. It’s down to £299 at Andertons now, and in stock….

Absolutely agree about The Art Of Losing, superb bit of work. Also enjoying Weight Of The World by Florence Black and Tell Your Girls It’s Alright by The Dead Deads 🙂 edit - ooh and the Wildhearts album!

Bloody hell, so sorry to read this. Condolences to all family and friends. What a shitty world we live in.

Yep nothing extreme at all! Give Ashdown a buzz or drop them an email

So apart from a supposedly clever cable (presume a series/parallel type option) what is different from normal speaker cabs and matching up a few to make a rig…?
-
What are all your various EQ/drive/comp/sub settings? The clip LED will be affected by all of these…

Debating whether two (differently flavoured) octavers is overkill. Got the MXR recently as wasn’t always 100% happy with the Okto side of the Emma Electronics pedal, but now it’s been on the board for a few weeks I’m missing the Nøjs side of the Emma… Hmm.

My Finn 5 has a 30” radius, it’s great. Though I’d be very hard pushed to tell the difference between that and my flat Skelf 5er 😅
-
It’s fine. The valve is in the preamp; it’s valve power stages (or, actually, any power stage with an output transformer) which needs a load. This uses MOSFETs so will be fine seeing an infinite impedance.

Mark changed to Markbass about 2 years ago, after a gig in Quebec where his TC head failed (not for the first time by all accounts) and he got whizzed off. He literally emailed Markbass as he flew back to the UK and they had the endorsement sorted within weeks. I know this coz the drummist in my band is the L42 drum tech 🤓

Yep. Mrs Mert has the horses; I just happened to be the wallet to pay for that. And then pay to get it through an MOT. And soon will pay to get the bodywork touched up in various places. Definitely not the best purchase of the year 😅 -

You know, that’s not a bad shout. It would be better at that than it is at its primary purpose 😬 -

How is it with active basses? I notice the Andertons website mentions “not suitable for use with active guitar pickups” so wondered if this was an impedance thing? P.S. I’ve been a very happy G30 user for at least 8 years now. Got a little pouch which stops the dodgy battery compartment flying open and keeps the whole unit secure on my strap. But seeing the XU2 has made me ponder a change, as it could offer me a simple chance to slim down my pedalboard 😅

The new Trace Elliot TE-1200, if it ever gets released, has dual band compression on it
