    Me too, I keep coming back to it as a bass I want to own…. But I have a new ACG incoming sometime in Q1 which I need to pay for before I even start thinking about anything else! And bonding with that should take priority for 2025 🙂

    Two gigs this weekend. Still suffering with the man flu which made me bed-bound over a week ago so it’s been hard work but both actual gigs were great fun. First up, Katy Hurt at Greystones in Sheffield. Given the last time out I never made the gig thanks to a flat tyre, I gave myself 6.5 hours to do a 4 hour journey, which was very wise with all the slow crap on the M1. Gig venue is great, soundwoman was lovely and very good indeed, and I have to say I think we played and sounded great. We threw in a new song which we’d polished in sound check and it went down as well as all the more well-known tunes and Katy did the same in her short acoustic interlude. Basses (Zoot J and P) and rig (Handbox WB100 and Barefaced Two10) sounded absolutely mint even with my cack handed playing. Best bit was catching up with the awesome @asingardenof and his better half Feeling rough, I decided to stay in a ropey Travelodge rather than drive all the way back to Surrey, so Saturday was spent first driving home, then unloading everything just to reload different basses (ACG TKO, Conway Taranis fretless) and a bigger rig (Trace TE1200 and Barefaced Super Twin) then go collect the PA and lights for Wednesday’s Child to play a gig at the King’s Arms in Dorking. A couple of shots of Talisker perked me up after we’d set up, and apart from a slightly non-perfect vocal sound I think we played and sounded great (except possibly my BVs which were probably terrible). Frankly both gigs were awesome fun at the time but I suspect I’ll feel it today given I wasn’t 100% beforehand. But for things to make you hot sweaty and sticky, this has got to be near the top of the fun list 😀 Today is a day for lying in bed or on the sofa. Or putting up the Christmas decorations according to Mrs Mert 😩😄 Photo shamelessly stolen from @asingardenof from Friday.

    Adding another comment to this coz I’m astonished there haven’t been countless bites. Last night I played at the Greystones in Sheffield, using my WB100, and the sound woman said it was the nicest DI she’d heard for a long time. These are ace! Whoever buys it will not be disappointed

    I expect the strings are the DR coated range, they still do the Black Beauties and Red Devils but they used to do a blue one too. Can’t remember the exact name though and they aren’t made anymore it seems!

    I play both. For a few bands I prefer 4s, for a couple of others I prefer 5s. Mostly due to songs in the set. I’m slightly less shit on a 4 than a 5 hence a 4 tends to be my preference

    16/3/25 - WITHDRAWN I am in the process of having a new ACG 5 string being built, and when that arrives in 2025 I’ll need at least one, if not both my existing 5 strings to make way. Therefore both this and my gorgeous Zoot Funkmeister are up for sale. Ultimately I’m not 100% sure which bass I want to sell but I am sure at least one has to go. So I will let the market decide. If the Zoot goes first, this stays, or if this goes first, the Zoot stays. Or if someone wants a deal on both, we can sort something out! This was commissioned in 2018 and arrived in 2019, on the back of learning a lot from a previous Finn 5 and Finn 4 commission, and was designed to be a clean hi fi bass for a function band. It absolutely nails that brief, and the neck profile along with the smooth satin-esque polymer oil finish is a delight. It’s lightweight and easy to play and has led me to finally cave and create my “ultimate” RetoB 5 spec with a holly top. Specs: 5 string, 32” scale 2-piece swamp ash body 5-piece maple/bubinga neck Acrylic impregnated maple board 4+1 headstock with maple veneer ACG FB pickups East Uni Pre 4K circuit with passive tone Hipshot A-type bridge with 16.5mm string spacing 45mm nut Gotoh resolite tuners Neutrik locking jack Schaller strap locks 3.6kg https://acguitars.co.uk/project/0343finn5/ It’s been cosseted its whole life, so is in pretty close to perfect nick. It does have a couple of natural imperfections in the woods which I mention for full disclosure, but they are natural rather than caused by me being a clumsy oaf. There is a small nick in the top of the bridge pickup cover too, which has been there since birth and in no way affects anything. I presume it was just a slightly dodgy moulding of the plastic case. No gig bag included at this price coz it’s a bargain. Collection only, or could arrange a convenient place to meet within around 45-60 mins max from me. Bank transfer upon meeting is preferred method of payment. No trades for the reasons explained above.
