You mean the Mononeon Jazz bass pickguard with matching headstock type orange? I'd dig that. ๐

Makes me crave Dairy Milk chocolate seeing that.

Please buy me a lottery ticket, I'll send you my address ๐

I think it's a fair and valid question. Hate just means "intense dislike". Yes I have a bass which I hate, because I dislike it and the intensity is subjective. I own very well manufactured expensive basses which I adore, but buying a cheap squier affinity p bass for kicks was just not worth it. Maybe I should hate myself for thinking it was a good idea, and not hate the bass. How it was made and passed QC was not its fault. I won't make that mistake again...

For silent practice, iPad Bluetooth into Spark Go with headphones for playing along to stuff, especially the garage band drummers. Otherwise a PJB BG75 for low volume, or an RM 800 Evo ii into 2 x 112T if the wife and neighbours are out.

Are my band expectations simply too high?

As a dear friend used to put it, "exposure doesn't put petrol in the tank". Those gigs were always refused and the promoter given an earful. -

Finding a band = dating. Being in a band = relationship. Leaving a band = divorce. It's always a case of expectations, then working with what you've got. Nothing will ever be 100% fit. I wish you the best of luck finding your new band. -
Hi, does anyone own one of these and if so please could you tell me if it's ported or sealed? https://ashdownmusic.com/products/rm-112-evo-iii Thanks

It seems from a few of these examples that the older one gets, the more forgiving one can become, or that we're not so bothered by the things which used to annoy us, because life's too short and is only getting shorter. Probably my main reason for thinking about getting the band back together. One last go before it's too late.

Reminds me of a band I was in for a couple of months where the drummer and I would warm up by locking into a funked up version of the song which would drive the guitarist singer songwriter mad. We'd bring it back to within expectations once we'd done our bit, but there were too many tantrums so I quit. I often bump into the band lead, and over the years he's always been amicable, but never asked me back ๐

It's been amazing reading your stories so far. And my respects to those who are no longer with us.

So you're middle aged or older, and you are feeling heavily nostalgic for the band you were in, in your early twenties. You and your old band mates have barely been in touch, but now you want to get the band back together for either shits and giggles or some serious gigs. What has been your experience?

I use a Spark Go. It's got just enough bass amp configuration to get the sound I want, and doubles up as a good headphone amp for my guitar. That and the play along features which I use on guitar makes it worthwhile for me. But if I only played bass then I might not have chosen it. Also the effects are decent enough. You can add a bit of grit to your sound, and EQ, noise gate, etc. Forgot to mention, I've got an old Vox amplug but it hisses like mad. Maybe the newer ones are better, or try a different brand?

Thank you. I've gone down a rabbit hole which will no doubt result in GAS. ๐

Could anyone tell me if there's a pedal or combination of which could get that dirty static-y fuzz sound at the beginning of this track using a bass? Kicks in at 52 seconds and gives me goosebumps... Cheers.

Nearly 50, haven't gigged in a while, looking to get back into it on a casual basis. No jazz, blues, or gospel otherwise will consider most other styles. Have loud gear and own car.

What went wrong with it, just out of interest?

Paint it black at a jam night. I was playing guitar, had no idea what we were doing, borrowed a drummer because ours didn't show. He didn't know the beat. It was a complete car crash. We stopped after a few bars, packed up and disappeared. It was after that I decided bass was for me.

My first 2 bass guitars as a teenager I had no clue about pickups or tone. I chose them because they looked cool. I massively regret selling them because 30 years on they would still have a place in my collection. My 3rd was a Tanglewood Stingray copy. It was my punk machine which got gigged and recorded. I gave up playing for a long time then a PPI payment allowed me to buy a real Stingray, same reason for buying the first one, because like many I'm a big fan of Flea. Subsequent basses I now own I carefully selected for various qualities, like feel, sound, playability, versatility, reliability, and a little bit on looks. And always 4 string because drop D is low enough if needed.

Ed who?

I think as long as that risk only pertains to rappers who diss each other, that should leave enough room for plenty other enjoyable genres of music to be promoted. I don't think the music industry is ever going to be averse to promoting rock, funk, edm, folk, blues, reggae, etc. and perhaps even jazz and classical, but I can take or leave the latter two... But it's an interesting debate for sure.

How can this be? Neither are classed as actual music IMO, it's just noise. Or maybe I'm getting old.

Much appreciated, thank you Bill.

I've just picked up one of these. It can be stood with the front-facing port horizontal or vertical. I'm guessing how it's placed is just a matter of what sounds best for the environment I'm playing in? However I'm a nerd, and any science someone could throw my way would be appreciated.
