I joined the club today. I bought an Ashdown RM-800-EVO II and a tweed CTM 112 cab for a total of £630 new - I don't usually do black Friday but the timing was a perfect coincidence. It's for home use primarily but should I ever get out and gig then I've got an amp I can take with me to use a house cab, or I can get an additional cab to share the output. The CTM cab is only rated at 250W. I'll try not to blow it up. The tracking on the sub is ok but I wouldn't record with it. The drive is not my cup of tea at all, and I'll be running my B7K V2 to make up for that. I won't be using it with headphones so I'm not too bothered about any potential LED interference. I thought I'd hate the notched output but it kinda works. Just trimming it with the input gain as others have suggested. The shape button is awesome and produces a lovely thick low end. Great that it can be used in conjunction with the EQ. Overall I'm extremely pleased with the amp. The cab is the first I've used with a tweeter and nice that it can be switched off for more control over old school tones.

Anyone remember Nigel Kennedy? No? Me neither...

I bet if you didn't give her the discount you'd have been accused of all sorts. People are fing shameless. And it ruins it for the genuine buyers who end up being tarred with the same brush. The few as always spoiling it for the many. Utterly feckless a*se hats.

I sold a Wampler Low Blow recently on eBay but out of habit I checked the buyer's profile a week later and found he was attempting to flip the pedal using a private seller account. This breaks eBay's policies so I reported him. I appreciate this is a murky area which divides opinion but it made me feel a little better holding the buyer/seller to account. When I sell a pedal I'm hoping it goes to a nice home to be enjoyed by a fellow musician who might not have the funds to buy new, or at an inflated flipper price. This is the first time I've been burned by a flipper so for future listings I'll state a policy of not selling to individuals if I think they're operating a business. Their purchase will be refunded and I'll ban them. This might cause someone to lodge a complaint against me but hey ho. Cross that bridge when I get to it.

Oh cool, thank you 👍

I'm trying (but failing) to pin down that growly tone on Sap, particularly evident on 'Got Me Wrong'. Can anyone hazard a guess at, or knows what gear he's using? Cheers.

I can't un-see that scratch plate. Even if this release was the first of its kind, I'd still question the geometry. It should hug the curve of the lower bout, not stray into it.

Sterling by Music Man… Joe Dart model by stealth?
PainInTheBass replied to fretmeister's topic in Bass Guitars
I'm wondering what their factory floor is going to look like manufacturing that many basses. All those fret leveling jobs for starters. Someone is gonna be sweating. I know I would be. -
A fairly recent acquisition. Today it'll be playing some funk. SR1600D

Did music lessons at school help with your musical life?
PainInTheBass replied to Nail Soup's topic in General Discussion
We had music lessons aged 8 to 11 back in the mid eighties. Our music teacher was a somewhat gifted polymath who rocked on piano and taught about every subject going at school. I learned various sized recorders and how to read bass and treble clefts, but not an ounce of music theory. All we did was learn to sight read. So I didn't gain a true appreciation or understanding of music. Weird thinking back and analysing what actually happened and realising it was mostly pointless. It was paint by numbers. My young daughter's musical education will come from me instead, and I won't be relying on the school system to teach her. -
Hi, I've emailed Sandberg but waiting their reply and recommendation. In the meantime, does anyone have experience in buying or know of a good quality ABS case to fit a California VS4 with minimal movement. Thanks. 👍

Sterling by Music Man… Joe Dart model by stealth?

Thank you. I read that then looked up some other woods. Surprisingly mahogany is in the same janka hardness ballpark as soft maple, and also possibly the Carolina pine body on my Warwick Rock bass, which I've not managed to dent yet. So around the 800 to 900 range. Basswood by comparison is around 400. -

Come to think of it, I suspect there are some well-informed members of this forum even, who admire the basses which Jack Stratton et al. market to them as musicians. I for one like what EBMM and Joe Dart are doing, and I hope it inspires a new generation of bass players to emulate their hero. -

I'm interested in the new affordable Joe Dart bass. Anyone know what soft maple is like as a body wood? Will it ding up like basswood? https://sterlingbymusicman.com/products/joe-dart?variant=41532195831923 -

Good idea 💡 Cheers

Does anyone know if this will fit into the recessed jack socket on an Ibanez Soundgear? I am envisioning some interference between the unit and the body of the bass.

Anyone seen this luthier's masterpiece? This is one cool bass IMO. https://youtu.be/h_r_P2R-ODQ?si=V_OIEjniK5WwBtfd

I travelled there to check out and potentially buy a bass only to find it had been sold a couple of weeks prior. Was in stock on their website. I stayed for a while to try a number of other basses anyway but left empty handed, credit card intact. I was advised to check their Instagram for incoming basses as this is updated before their website. Ended up buying a bass from somewhere else in the end.

Any Rickenbacker. It's like having a bad dream about waking up in a parallel earth where everything is slightly different to how you'd expect it to be, and going to your local guitar shop to find the P bass was never invented and you could only buy Rickenbackers, then waking up in a cold sweat and running to check on your collection of normal basses to make sure you're awake. -
I'd say option c. These things happen. It's like getting a door dink in your new car. Annoying at first but eventually as your car ages your realise it's going to pick up some battle scars along the way, much like me. I recently bought my first relic'd bass, having always been anti relic. It's a Sandberg with a light relic, very tastefully done. Now I'm not so precious with this bass as I have been with others. If I was a gigging musician I would even accept additional road wear. But I draw the line at neck damage and feeling imperfections under my thumb. That I just cannot abide, and I would have to remedy any damage either by steam or filler.
