  1. The 'Valve' knob is actually counter intuitive. In its most anti clockwise position its starves the plate and makes it sound more 'loose/slow' and valve like. Fully clockwise it actually tightens things up. For cleaner i would definately max the master and use gain to set 'volume'. The dirt/grit comes mainly from the pre
  2. As mentioned, engage the EQ even if its left flat but raise the far right hand slider. Theres hidden volume in there
  3. Any amp tech recommendations for North West/Manchester? Usually use Roland Lumby but he only takes on valve work now. Dave Lunt seems to have retired from what i gather Its a hybrid Fender Bassman that needs a new volume pot as it has sheared off. Looks like the post go straight into the board so could be a big job
  4. Fender Bassman 1200 incoming.  Will need a tech visit tho, at the very least it needs a new volume pot

Have a great NBD. Fingers crossed that the tech work is as simple as a new pot.

  5. So with gigs back up and running ive plumped on a larger bassman head and as such ill have to let this box of absolute magic go. The tone on these things is phenomenal and kept up at rehearsal in my 60’s american rock band superbly through an ampeg 2x12 - these really are quite loud for their rating. I revalved this around december with some NOS russian EL84’s and it hasnt skipped a beat since. Comes with a hotcovers fitted padded cover. Cant really post this with it being a valve amp, collection would be from Bolton or could potentially arrange a meet up. Excellent cosmetic and working condition
  6. Might be needing a gigging head again soon and the Laney Digbeth 500 is tickling my pickle

If you're happy with that I'd advise you to stop looking before the whole jar is tickled pink...far too much nice gear available - so hard to choose!

Ah, it might be tickling your pickle but is it floating your boat and toasting your crumpet?

  7. The Elites half/ground wounds are really good in my opinion. Had them on a MIJ Jazz and sounded great
  8. With it being a CC there probably wont be any service history or knowledge of valve age. Plus as mentioned, it comes with an 8ohm cab which isnt compatible - it may suggest the head has been used long term with the cab which itself could've caused issues. Assuming everything was a-ok i would probably offer £1k, flip the cab and spend the cab money of a service with a competent tech. As @Beedster mentions also though, heavy iron just doesnt seem to shift nowadays
  9. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/325672466216?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=5FL9HKvQQzW&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=oN5XbKSRQjS&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY being sold with non compatible 8ohm cab so may well have been used and abused with it. Never see anything cool like this in my local CC 😫
  10. Cash Converters in Dartford with a ltd edition Skunkworks SVT! Never seen those sorts of things in my local crack converters!

Can’t see it on their site unless it’s gone

  11. Do they ever actually sell anything at those prices? I know they have the shell/corpse of what was previously a Ric 4005 thats been for sale forever and a completely stupid price!
  12. It was from Legends over at Bass Bros. Ive tried TI’s - too floppy for me. Ive ordered some la bella 760FL’s so hopefully have them in soon. More pics to follow
  13. Just doing a spot of maintenance on my Jap Fender 57ri. Turns out it was born 16th Dec 1985. Lovely bass just pondering which flats to go with
  14. Ampeg SVT II Non Pro - just to heavy and 'fancy' for the small pub gigs/shared backline gigs we did Ashdown Spyder (both 330 and 550) - superb 'plug in and play' amps Mesa BB750 - closest sound ive got to 'all valve' without actually being 'all valve' I currently get away with an Ashdown LB30 for my needs but should the bigger gigs come back then a Spyder or Mesa Walkabout will be on the shopping list
  15. Anyone here grab the vintage SVT that went on ebay for £850?  Was tempted and fairly local alas house move at the moment is eating all my fun funds

  16. Selling this as a job lot. Taken from a Spector NS-94 SSD. As such the engraved name doesnt feature on the bridge or tuners. Looking at pictures of these basses online it looks like the knobs are aftermarket ones in the usual Spector bevelled top style. These are push on rather than grub screw. All fitting screws are included with the bridge and tuners. Price can include UK postage
  17. Id say either an original 57/58 burst/maple/gold P bass or a ric 4005
  18. I also just saw their Ric from the 70's in autumnglo. Usually arent my thing rics but that one looks stunning!
  19. Aidan bought a pickup off me in an effortlessly smooth transition. Nae danger here 👍
  20. Thanks so much for that. I think that settles that my current flats are Maroooosiks
  21. Sorry for the ancient thread revival. Ive done a separate thread on some flatwounds that came on my Cabronita bass that im really liking and some suggestions are that they are maruszczyk. Does anyone who uses them have a close up photo at all please? My flats in question are uber shiny/glassy in feel, black silks at both ends BUT the above headstock photo differs slightly from mine in that teh silks on mine seem shorter
  22. Thanks for all the replies so far. Just doing some more research and some places suggest the silks on Dunlops are slightly 'coated' to prevent fraying. If this is the case then the search goes on as they are just standard silks.....
  23. I have a set of Elites Detroit Flatwounds and a set of Elites Groundwounds. Both cut for 4-in-a-row fender style headstock with plenty of winds (i only usually snip the E). Both have had minimal play time but new project requires 'orrible zingy rounds. £15 each set of £25 for both. Price includes UK postage
  24. These definitely sit in the old school camp. Never tried dunlop but ive read they are more ‘modern’ type ala chromes/fender?
