Bass gallery have two. Ive asked numerous times re: the one linked above as the pics note several areas of concern - a replacement transformer and some weird addition that looks like a solid state rectifier?

With a heavy heart I offer…. Fender Jazz Bass 1975 RI Made in Japan. Burst/black/rosewood/block/bound – the best jazz bass combo IMHO. This was rescued from a local studio in a non working state (state being the operative word!). No bell plate, weird active electrics (no extra routing), strings that looked like they had been on the Titanic, no string tree and a bridge completely ceased So i:- · Installed a NOS set of Wizard 84s. What a thump, soloing the neck pup gives a proper P bass wallop. The bridge pup is nice a burpy but still holds a decent low end · New Kiogon Harness · New Kiogon Bell plate · New Kiogon knobs · Grooved/spiral saddle BBOT bridge · Elites nickels added (pic shows previous fender flats) Bad parts that remain:- · Thumb rest added by previous owner but as you can see you can still see a screw hole just by the side of the rest. New guard would easily sort · Nut is fully functional but looks a little rough · Someone obviously previously added a bridge cover so there are holes in the relevant places for that. Finally there is a very slight lifting/bubbling of the decal. This is fully legit tho and i will try and photograph it in as much detail and as close as i can. Now, I know the old question that always gets raised on here is weight – this is an ash bodied bass and weighs as such. It isn’t light but is fine on my 3.5’’ Levys strap which ill even chuck in if needed. Can get a more accurate weight but for now lets just say it isn’t a light bass. It does however resonate beautifully when played unplugged. Ive read on various sites this is as close to an old 70’s vintage Fender J as it gets without the massive price. I cant compare but it is lovely and im not even that big a fan of J’s! Condition – well as you can see its had a life, some people pay for this kind of ‘relicing’ 😊 Its not a museum piece, it’s a player. Through my mesa 360 it’s the first Jazz ive had that doesn’t sound ‘thin/weedy’ (im a P bass player so you can see where im coming from). Has period correct features including bullet truss, 3 bolt neck plate with ‘tilt’ thingymabob. Serial number – N***** dates it to 1995/1996 Only reason for sale is a lovely old P bass has come up on Reverb that I cant stop thinking about. If that sells this listing will be pulled, that’s genuine too, not a ‘buy it quick’ tactic Pricing – Im not looking to recoup my whole outlay here but need a decent wedge towards the P bass. Collection massively preferred and I can meet within reasonable distance if needed. £850 ono collected from Bolton. More proper pics to follow asap

My USA SVT made in the 90’s (SLM). Nothing sounds like it - ive tried all the emulation pedals, modelling amps yadda yadda, this just is THAT tone. Sadly to heavy for me now but i still like to fire her up and hear that tone from so many old gigs and hits -
My MIJ 75ri in Bass Corner of the studio. Quite heavy but a thump to die for and thats coming from a dyed in the wool P bass man! Rescued from a dark corner of a crack converters in non-working condition. Needed a kiogon harness and i opted for a set of Wizard 84’s. she wears Elites Groundwounds and sounds every bit as good as she looks.

My MIJ 57ri from the 90’s. Acquired off of Bagsieblue of this parish. Stunning instrument, very light and great thump. Usually stick pribora pickups in my P’s but this came loaded with a Fender 62 Original which just sounds great. Strung here with Fender flats as my usual Elites were a little TOO thumpy for this latest project. Seen here with an Ampeg SVT and 2x12 cab

Well, some feedback on the mesa - its awesome! Arrived friday and had a baptism of fire yesterday at a local festival Glaston-bury where all the pubs in Bury town centre have a rolling roster of bands. We were told last week a bass cab would be supplied but i needed to bring a head as such i thought best leaving the SVT at home, probability suggested it would be an 8ohm cab. Got to the venue yesterday and my heart sank a little, the cab was an old Ashdown MAG 2x10 lay on its side for vertical speakers - i do love ashdown heads but never got on with their cabs. To add further frustration teh sound guy DI'd our keys, mic'd the kit and the two other guitars and was going ''to rely on brute strength'' for the bass - what a sound! It obviously sounded bass heavy on stage but there was a huge rumbly growl to the sound without ever being uncontrollable or boomy. A real FAT gutsy growl with my flats loaded P bass. Got huge compliments from punters and seeing videos back the sound out front was great (if not a little keys heavy). Miles lighter than an SVT without being class D, great valvey growl and plenty of headroom and volume to spare. Im definitely in love!

So it arrived! Sounds glorious, not SVT glorious but glorious nonetheless. Much more carryable then the SVT. Left the semi para EQ off for now as ill be knob twiddling for ages. Baptism of fire for this gal as we are playing a festival Monday! Best get to know each other pretty quick!

The one on ebay? Seems pretty well priced to me at £350? If it sounds half as good as the BB750 did then ill be happy. Just need to flog the SVT now!

Thanks again for all the help and suggestions. As mentioned i really enjoyed the Mesa BB750 last time i owned one and seem to get on well with Mesa's Simulstate amps. To this end ive managed to snag what i think is quite a bargain on a used M-Pulse 360! Will feedback on how i get on with it

Ampeg SVT Classic Made in USA. Serial number dates this to August 1998 I believe and is an SLM Ampeg made before they shipped the builds to Asia Not an awful lot to say about these amps – they are the industry standard big bastard valves amps still seen on most main stages to this day. Thunderously loud and THAT glorious valve tone. I use it with my 4ohm 212AV cab and with a mixture of J and P basses (all with flats of course) and it just sounds big, fat and all the other cliché’s that get thrown at big valve amps. Cosmetically it looked like the previous owner changed that knobs and there are a few scuffs to the tolex. The side handles show a bit of rust but other than that it’s a fully functioning beast…… and therein lies my problem. We used to have our own full time studio where this lived but now the gigs are coming back in I need something lighter. I know I wont get THAT tone from anything else but needs must. Valve wise im not sure of the age but it fully bias’s up properly and I have had zero hiccups from it. £900 for a USA made Ampeg Classic SVT if collected from Bolton (or can meet within reasonable distance) Pics to follow asap

Cheers for all the answers so far, certainly plenty of food for thought. I did have an old UK made ABM 300 head for a while, i did like the sound (i like most ashdown heads to be fair, just never got on with their cabs). I see theres a bargain Spyder head on the classifieds too that is tempting. Orange bass terror - used the Mk I once and really liked it but bought another years after selling it and through an orange 1x15 i just didnt get any thump out of it for some reason

Ive pretty much always played an SVT head. Been through a few cabs from the 410hlf to my current 212AV and always loved that guttsy low mid thump with a hint of growl. However, as the gigs are now starting to come in i find myself once again hating the weight! I think it might finally be time to downsize. Ive never gotten on with class D - to use a well coined Basschat phrase, to me they lack heft. The best non SVT heads ive played were the Mesa BB750 or the older version on the SVT III non pro which are now seemingly rare. Barring in mind the slow market id need to shift the SVT first and would expect maybe £800-£900, possibly enough for a mesa BB750 and certainly more than enough for an SVT III non-pro but was wondering if theres anything else out there similar- valve pre perhaps with a solid state/fet power amp. Suitably old school and with a low mid growl. I play mainly with flats loaded P’s and J’s
