  1. Thread res…. Still very tempted by the B15 at bass gallery but looking around at replacement transformers (at least the right size to make it LOOK original). Fliptops is circa £300 plus shipping and tax…. does anyone know of any UK based Ampeg specialists at all. Very tempted by it but just look beyond those current mods

  2. MIJ Fender 57 RI Precision Bass (50th Anniversary).

Lovely lightweight (will get exact weight for you) black/black/maple P bass that sounds just like a good p bass should.  Pickups have been replaced with Fender Original 62’s and the wiring upgraded to a Kiogon loom.

Couple of battle scars that I have tried to picture, some people pay extra for that kind of thing tho! 😊

Fitted with fender 9050ml Flatwounds and recently had a full set up at The Guitar Surgeon in Atherton nr. Bolton.  If you look on Youtube for ‘’Tornado Fires – Glaston-Bury” you can hear the bass in action in a live setting.

Lovely bass with a nice comfortable non-baseball bat neck.  Really would invite you to come and play it through my Ampeg B50R, which ill also be listing, with no obligation, it’s a beaut.

Only selling as I’m playing my jazz bass more regularly and looking to fund a dream amp of mine.

Comes with scruffy but fully usable gig bag.  Collection from Bolton or could meet up within reasonable distance.

£800 ono collected from Bolton or can deliver within reasonable distance.  Pics to follow asap

  3. Ampeg B50R made in USA 1 x 12 50w combo

Proper B15 vibes going on here with the lovely styling and nice old school sound.  Genuinely sounded more B15-ish than my vintage SB12 I had!  Little known fact, these do have a hidden 1/4” Jack line out so can be used for larger gigs with FOH help.

Grill is scruffy as you can see but adds to the mojo I guess.  No major dings or scrapes in the chequered tolex and works perfectly.  However, it does suffer from the generic issue that the majority of these original Rocket combos do in the the power light doesn’t work.  A quick google shows this is common.  Still works perfectly in every other way.

£250 collected from Bolton or can deliver in reasonable distance.

  4. I recently made a switch from my favourite Elites flatwounds to Fender as i was seeking a little more growl and sustain.  However, they have either stopped being made or are very difficult to find in the old gauges.  I was a big fan of their 9050CL set in 'standard' 105-45 gauge but couldnt find them anywhere.  Eventually i setteled on a 9050ml 100-50 gauge which seem really good.  Now i cant find these in stock anywhere either!

I know some think the d'addario chromes are close but ive never got on with them - too twangy and not enough thump for me even after many hours playing.  Are fenders now on their way out and do i need to find something similarly growly, good sustain and a decent E string?

  5. Absolutely love mine. Its the first of many jazzes that ive really liked (ive always been a P bass man). Not dated mine yet but think its mid 90’s. Quite heavy but tone for days. Came with some weird active preamp so i ripped that all out and returned it to standard wiring with some Wizard 84 pickups and now she thumps and growls with the fender flats on her.

  6. 2 sets of used flats. Cut for P bass but always with plenty of winds:-

    1) Elites Detroit Flats - 105-45

Silks in good condition. Not broken in yet. About 3hrs play

    2) rotosound flats - 100-40

Silks frayed as always with rotos.  Even less play time than the Elites

£15 each posted in UK.  Pics to follow

Is £14,500 the going rate for a decent early 60's  P Bass? It makes the £6,500 J Bass at Bass Gallery look cheap! Is there usually that much difference in cost between a P and a J a couple of years apart?

I always find that Bass Direct get quite giddy whenever they get anything vintage Fender in and often their prices are produced on the back of that giddyness.  Generally find Bass Gallery are much more realistic on their vintage Fender pricing.

  8. Being into my vintagey tones (think flats and valves, motown and Deacon) it still really surprises me that my MIJ 75 ri Jazz bucks the common generalisation that P’s do that best. I love my P but honestly this jazz sounds so good, like the old recordings
