  1. got a set of these last week and as mentioned I found out that they replace strings. My E snapped on installation right at the tuning key. Quick email and new E string was with me next day. Id say these are low tension (in comparison to my usual Elites) and have an even tone with no dead E. WIll be interested to see how they mellow. Nice feel though not glassy smooth. Feel slightly textured on my plucking hand but for £10 they are pretty good!
  2. I did my old USA one a while back, when i say sensitive i mean it, barely a slightest of turns makes a huge difference. I turned mine what seemed like a hairs width and it was almost too much. That vid is a very good guide though
  3. Ive bought from Bass Direct a few times and always had great service but he doesnt half seem to get giddy with his prices when he gets in ‘vintage’ fenders! Theres a 70’s jazz on the site too at an eye an eye watering price. Everytime he gets in a 70’s fender his pricing is miles off, he seems to be a bit ‘excited’ with this 60’s one too IMHO
  4. The bias is known to drift on these. Theres a tiny trim pot inside (to the right of the back two valves as you look at it from the front). Its EXTREMELY senstive tho so unless you have a very steady hand drop it in to a pro. You need to measure along one of the 6 resistors next to it. There is a youtube vid explaining far better than i can but the 3pro is known for this drifting issue
  5. This looks stunning and exactly what im after. Im honestly considering putting my 1978 Tokai p bass up for sale to fund this 😫
  6. One of my fave live bass tones and its a spector euro (I think). Im sure the SVT helps but cracking bass tone (shame about Steins guitar sounding like it was falling down stairs as he plays it:)
  7. Phil took some flats off me in an effortlessly smooth transaction. Nae danger here
  8. Andy took some flats off me in an effortlessly smooth transaction. Nae danger here

Agreed. Limelight are the worst of the lot when it comes to genuine looking relicing. Im sure they just attack it with a sander! Sandberg look tasteful and quite genuine, Bravewood look outstanding too
  10. I do sometimes miss my old DP200 head. Lovely sounds albeit very clean. Couldnt get much valve breakup out of it. Great sounds tho and certainly got looks
  11. would trade for a set of used Labella 760fs if cut for 4-in-row headstock and in reasonable condition
  12. Had a couple of sets of these left over from a bulk buy from a closing down shop. More recently the need for a more 'modern' lively string in my current band means these are surplus. Sold a few sets off on here and have one set left. 45-105, blue silks at the headstock and red at the bridge. Easily my favourite Motown/thumpy flat £20 includes UK postage
  13. Every xmas I have to hear the horrible out of tune strained version of Santa Claus Is Coming To Town where it just descends into of key shouting
  14. Agree on two points raised here:- 1) The site doesn't appear to be trying it on. It is what it is - a players bass 2) Value - around £1500 is about right for a bass with so few original features despite its year. On a side note, I like the Tom DeLonge sig 6 string they have on the website!
  15. Lovely, as a dyed in the wool P bass player that Jazz bass looks stunning! Still not sure whether to replace my cloth or not
  16. Blondie - love them and have spent a lot of lockdown learning and studying Nigel Harrisons bass work. The more ive studies the more I find Chris Stein an absolute bellend. Completely out of touch and up his own derrière without an awful lot of talent tio back it up. IMHO of course
  17. That's what put me off, call me old fashioned but I don't like writing on my pup covers. Changing them isn't an issue unless, like the GZR's, the pups covers are none removable. Ive just swapped out a set of SPB1's from my MIM 50's and have gone with my usual pups - Pribora Handwound. All my P basses have these in, they are a lovely trad style pup
  18. Tech 21 VT Bass pedal – the later version with the defeatable speaker sim. In fantastic condition with original tin and instruction/settings card (2 for some reason!?). I used the to beef up my old solid state amps and get that narly 70’s svt blueline type woody growl. The pedal will do anything from a clean sound, fat clean SVT sound, SVT on brink of breakup, valve amp screaming to its limits and then a metal type fuzz. Only selling as im using a B50R for home use which has a nice valvey type tone already and my big rig is a peavey valve amp which…well…is a valve amp that nails the valve amp tone. Can post within the UK for free or knock a couple of quid off for a socially distanced collection from sunny Bolton
  19. NAD – whilst working from home and all my big amps are lockedup in our rehearsal space I found myself missing my old B15 for home noodles. For several days I was considering the ampeg b50r over on that Bass Directs website and eventually decided to treat myself. She arrived today and initially dabbles have been met with some surprise. Firstly for 50w she is VERY loud! I need more time with her to get the EQ right, currently lacking a bit of low end, not that I was expecting windows rattling from a 50w 1x12 but im sure theres more in there to be had. So far with my MIM 50’s bass and flats she sounds good, very smooth and ‘balanced’. Ill maybe hook up my VT pedal to her later to see what tones I can coax out. Only issues are the well worn grill cloth (not a biggie) and the standard Rocket Bass problem in that the jewel light doesn’t work. Ill report back after a proper mess and play. Any other b50r users on here?
  20. Always open to trade on used flats (not fender/chromes bright type ones tho, i like oldschool/thumpy)
  21. Yes ideally, if you buy a quad from most Valve sellers they usually are matched anyway
  22. The 6L6 far right as you look at the pic has lost its vacuum. The white top gives it away. The one next to it looks like a Zerox? Either way that head will defo need a new set of 6L6GC's. My peavey has 6 of them in it and ive been happy with the JJ's so far, I bought from Hotrox as they tend to be cheapest without skipping on proper testing etc, should be about £120 for the power valves, not sure whats in the pre-amp of these tho. Id say all in you need to budget around £200/£250 for new valves and a tech to service it (plus any other parts he/she may come across)
  23. Had an excellent social distancing transaction with Andy when buying my Bison bass. Effortlessly smooth transaction and quick chinwag about all things valve. No problems here
