  1. So a basic Legend 4 has come up for sale near me. PJ pups and in a misty/bluey grey colour. Looks nice and also the guy has bought a tone pump circuir (fitted with all the pots, battery clip etc). Im sorely tempted despite being a p bass player, its just that tone in the vid above - I cant get it out of my head!
  2. Its been brought to my attention (not on here I might add) that ive overpriced this. Ive tried to find other examples in UK with same details but struggling. As such ive price dropped a little to £675 and will still keep the trade/part-ex option open on a V4B
  3. So obsessed with Leigh Foxx's live tone on the T In The Park vids from 2011 im starting to GAS for a Sepctor!!! But im a dyed in the wool P bass man!!!!!

It does sound very good though. Big and fat. Give it a try. You might like it!

Good lord that tone is thick

  4. Im purely a P bass man but been gassing after one of these since I heard the live tone on the newer Blondie stuff where Leigh Foxx totes one of these bad boys! If I wasn't after an Ampeg V4B with the funds from my Tokai sale this would definitely be on my list!
  5. Been asked the weight a few times, will see if I can track down some luggage scales to check it out and post back here
  6. 4 inch wide padded big ol’ strap. Extension piece at back is non original but brand new. Main strap part has had locks fitted in past. Price includes UK postage
  7. A black pickguard off a Squier VM precision TB - basically the bass with the great whackin mudbucker by the neck. Had one years ago and changed the guard out to a white BassDoc one. Found this having a clear out. Postage to UK included in price
  8. I thought of any other of my bass stuff to sell to fund either an SVT or V4B but this is the one with the most value in it and that is used the least. A stunning 1978 Tokai Hard Puncher precision bass in 3 tone sunburst, black guard, ash body and maple neck with original japanese hardcase and original japanese case candy/hang tags. Comes fitted with an upgraded junction box type wiring harness and a Seymore Duncan SPB-1. Fitted with flatwounds and sounding every bit like a 70’s p bass should. Has all the expected age wear with the chrome bridge and tuners nicely pitted but fully functions and nice surface wear (real not reliced) but no major dings or dongs. Could do with a set up, the D and A have a few choked notes right up at the dusty end but I dont really venture up there but want to mention it. I had planned to take it to Jacks Instrument Services in Manchester before the lockdown. Collection would be from Bolton (or meet ups possible) where she can be tested. Not really keen on posting as i really want any buyer to see and play the bass in the flesh. Trade/part ex wise id consider an Ampeg V4B valve head or at a push an SVT-VR but cash is king.
  9. Reverb is always worth a scan. I got my Peavey Alphabass off there - 160w via 6 x 6L6GC, lovely. Theres always cheap Sound Citys on ebay and the like for around £350-£450 but not great for bass unless its the Mk3 models (in which case the price goes up). Fender Bassman 100/135's often pop up and with only a 4 x 6L6GC power section a full revalve wont be TOO much. If going vintage I would always set aside say £100 for a tech visit, plus the cost of a revalve just in case. Id also check out the very cheap Bugera 1960, whilst its marketed as a guitar amp it worked fine for me on bass, 100w via 4 x EL34's
  10. got a set of these last week and as mentioned I found out that they replace strings. My E snapped on installation right at the tuning key. Quick email and new E string was with me next day. Id say these are low tension (in comparison to my usual Elites) and have an even tone with no dead E. WIll be interested to see how they mellow. Nice feel though not glassy smooth. Feel slightly textured on my plucking hand but for £10 they are pretty good!
  11. I did my old USA one a while back, when i say sensitive i mean it, barely a slightest of turns makes a huge difference. I turned mine what seemed like a hairs width and it was almost too much. That vid is a very good guide though
  12. Ive bought from Bass Direct a few times and always had great service but he doesnt half seem to get giddy with his prices when he gets in ‘vintage’ fenders! Theres a 70’s jazz on the site too at an eye an eye watering price. Everytime he gets in a 70’s fender his pricing is miles off, he seems to be a bit ‘excited’ with this 60’s one too IMHO
  13. The bias is known to drift on these. Theres a tiny trim pot inside (to the right of the back two valves as you look at it from the front). Its EXTREMELY senstive tho so unless you have a very steady hand drop it in to a pro. You need to measure along one of the 6 resistors next to it. There is a youtube vid explaining far better than i can but the 3pro is known for this drifting issue
  14. This looks stunning and exactly what im after. Im honestly considering putting my 1978 Tokai p bass up for sale to fund this 😫
  15. One of my fave live bass tones and its a spector euro (I think). Im sure the SVT helps but cracking bass tone (shame about Steins guitar sounding like it was falling down stairs as he plays it:)
  16. Phil took some flats off me in an effortlessly smooth transaction. Nae danger here
  17. Andy took some flats off me in an effortlessly smooth transaction. Nae danger here

Agreed. Limelight are the worst of the lot when it comes to genuine looking relicing. Im sure they just attack it with a sander! Sandberg look tasteful and quite genuine, Bravewood look outstanding too
  19. I do sometimes miss my old DP200 head. Lovely sounds albeit very clean. Couldnt get much valve breakup out of it. Great sounds tho and certainly got looks
  20. would trade for a set of used Labella 760fs if cut for 4-in-row headstock and in reasonable condition
  21. Had a couple of sets of these left over from a bulk buy from a closing down shop. More recently the need for a more 'modern' lively string in my current band means these are surplus. Sold a few sets off on here and have one set left. 45-105, blue silks at the headstock and red at the bridge. Easily my favourite Motown/thumpy flat £20 includes UK postage
  22. Every xmas I have to hear the horrible out of tune strained version of Santa Claus Is Coming To Town where it just descends into of key shouting
  23. Agree on two points raised here:- 1) The site doesn't appear to be trying it on. It is what it is - a players bass 2) Value - around £1500 is about right for a bass with so few original features despite its year. On a side note, I like the Tom DeLonge sig 6 string they have on the website!
