  1. Eventful bass day.  One axe leaves the stable and a new home amp is on its way - ampeg B50r

  2. Off all the P’s ive played including vintage fenders my fave and by far the best is my 78 tokai hard puncher. Cost me £550 a few years back but the prices are going up in these gems now
  3. I have a used set of elites flats up for grabs. Used on a P bass for around 4hrs so still need breaking in. I only cut the E string (still with plenty of winds). The other strings were installed uncut. Also up for grabs a brand new unused set of the Elites Grounds. Bought in anticipation of going on my MIM 50's but in the end that got flats too. £20 posted for the Grounds £15 posted for the flats Knock a few quid of if collected or you are taking both sets
  4. All my other P’s have Pribora pickups in and that was the plan with this also. Whilst i like these pickups ive never been fully decided. first time ive heard or used an SPB1 and im definitely impressed just not sure i prefer it over the priboras
  5. Mystery solved, removed the neck pup to reveal they are SPB1’s. not sure whether they will stay or not yet 🤔
  6. Quite possibly, ive had a few of Johns looms before, excellent bits of kit. Im awaiting a new set of pup screws and when they arrive ill get pics of the loom and pups. These are meant to come as stock with American Std pups but these things are unmarked underneath, look very old (the pole pieces are showing slight rust and gunk) and sound nice and vintage.
  7. I always used to have the covers on my P's, they look amazing but recently ive started playing either directly over or right next to the pups so they would get in the way. She is definitely keeping flats but I could never get on with the loose feel of TI's. I really really like the Elites but am tempted to try the lighter roto's too
  8. will need some help later. Definitely decided on flats but when I popped the hood as it were there has clearly been some electrical mods done. First of a very nice looking after market loom/harness with junction box style connection so changing pups is easier. Its got a great dockin' big silver capacitor (I assume PIO) but the pups are whats intriguing me. No markings but vey vintage looking. Plain black bobbns with dark red windings. Will snap a pic later and see if anyone is able to shed any light as to what they are. Whatever they are their hook up wires were obviously too short and they have had 'extensions' soldered between them and the junction box.
  9. Maybe trade/part ex for something small, house type but old school and valvey combo/amp. 1) Ashdown Little Bastard/Stubby 2) WEM dominator 3) Ampeg B50R/PF20 Nowt much else amp wise really. Cash still king tho
  10. NBD! Ive wanted a 50’s style burst/gold/maple p bass forever. This beaut popped up on reverb and i snapped it up to replcae my outgoing Burns Bison (i need to learn that im just a p bass kinda guy!). Despite all my basses wearing flats the actual plan was for this to get a set of groundwounds. The 78 Tokai is on flats and ud my main axe, this was going to be back up. However when she arrived i whacked flats on until the grounds arrive and she seems to love them!! Now im torn whether to keep the flats on or not! Planned also to swap out the pups but again they sound great. Neck is wider but much shallower than the Tokai, certainly not uncomfortable. Here they both are chilling out
  11. I agree. Ernie Balls defo. They distinguish their gauges by called them "groups". Nice strings, more a modern flatwound, especially when new, lots of sustain and overtones
  12. Im a sucker for a woody growly P bass tone:- Blondie - Dreaming Fratellis - Halloween Blues Clash - London Calling Queen - Keep Yourself Alive
  13. Loved their spyder range. The 330 and 550 were magnificent heads. The LB550 was anemic tho, didnt get on with them (not found a class D i do yet to be honest)
  14. Finally found the hangtag from its recent visit to Jacks in Manchester
  15. Had one if these a while back. One trick pony but what a trick. Amazing sound! After selling my inital burst one I stumbled across a cherry red one in my local crack converters but for some reason the pickup in that one wasnt great and I eventually sold it to the irish band The Sea Pinks. sorely tempted but i keep having to remind myself i only seem to get on with P basses. GLWTS
  16. Had the absolute privilege to play through an old Epiphone Constellation V bass combo last night with my 78 Tokai.  Jesus Christ that IS bass tone!  Actually sounded better than my B15!?!?!  Now really REALLY want one :(

  17. the bass tone on "Queen - Keep Yourself Alive" is this weeks addiction.  The low notes either with lovely valve breakup or a small speaker at its limits.  Lovely!

I think he used Acoustic gear live.

  18. Not been sleeping great in all this current flipery and something crossed my mind last night (well about 4am this morning). Ive recently ordered a used MIM 50's P bass off of Reverb that is winging its way to me from spain. Obviously Spain has been heavily affected by the pandemic and a thought crossed my main about how I read about quarantining parcels. I read somewhere that cardboard in particular can carry the disease around and can stay 'active' for up to a week. What about basses tho? I always change the strings anyway to flats but I don't fancy giving a nice bass a wipe over with dettol! Am I just hyping all this due to my over active brain?
  19. Finally caved. MIM classic 50’s P bass purchased on reverb last night. The mrs is gonna go absolutely ape! 😬

good points gents.  I have been after one of these for a while.  Ive always had a lovely p bass in my 78 tokai and as a back up I keep messing with weird and wondeful basses rather than (being a p bass man) just getting a nice back up P!.  The tokai always wears flats and this new one will get grounds

Burst. Always had a thing for the 50s burst/gold/maple

  20. I caved last night to a p bass ive been watching on reverb. As such this is back as sale only, no trades pls
  21. In view of the fact that im working from home at the moment so around most days, the fact it comes with a good hardcase and finally that ive seen something on reverb - if someone can find a working courier and wants to organise it themselves im happy to work with them to get this to a UK address if needed.
