  1. Im a sucker for a woody growly P bass tone:- Blondie - Dreaming Fratellis - Halloween Blues Clash - London Calling Queen - Keep Yourself Alive
  2. Loved their spyder range. The 330 and 550 were magnificent heads. The LB550 was anemic tho, didnt get on with them (not found a class D i do yet to be honest)
  3. Finally found the hangtag from its recent visit to Jacks in Manchester
  4. Had one if these a while back. One trick pony but what a trick. Amazing sound! After selling my inital burst one I stumbled across a cherry red one in my local crack converters but for some reason the pickup in that one wasnt great and I eventually sold it to the irish band The Sea Pinks. sorely tempted but i keep having to remind myself i only seem to get on with P basses. GLWTS
  5. Had the absolute privilege to play through an old Epiphone Constellation V bass combo last night with my 78 Tokai.  Jesus Christ that IS bass tone!  Actually sounded better than my B15!?!?!  Now really REALLY want one :(

  6. the bass tone on "Queen - Keep Yourself Alive" is this weeks addiction.  The low notes either with lovely valve breakup or a small speaker at its limits.  Lovely!

I think he used Acoustic gear live.

  7. Not been sleeping great in all this current flipery and something crossed my mind last night (well about 4am this morning). Ive recently ordered a used MIM 50's P bass off of Reverb that is winging its way to me from spain. Obviously Spain has been heavily affected by the pandemic and a thought crossed my main about how I read about quarantining parcels. I read somewhere that cardboard in particular can carry the disease around and can stay 'active' for up to a week. What about basses tho? I always change the strings anyway to flats but I don't fancy giving a nice bass a wipe over with dettol! Am I just hyping all this due to my over active brain?
  8. Finally caved. MIM classic 50’s P bass purchased on reverb last night. The mrs is gonna go absolutely ape! 😬

good points gents.  I have been after one of these for a while.  Ive always had a lovely p bass in my 78 tokai and as a back up I keep messing with weird and wondeful basses rather than (being a p bass man) just getting a nice back up P!.  The tokai always wears flats and this new one will get grounds

Burst. Always had a thing for the 50s burst/gold/maple

  9. I caved last night to a p bass ive been watching on reverb. As such this is back as sale only, no trades pls
  10. In view of the fact that im working from home at the moment so around most days, the fact it comes with a good hardcase and finally that ive seen something on reverb - if someone can find a working courier and wants to organise it themselves im happy to work with them to get this to a UK address if needed.
  11. Just to pass the boredom I decided that even though ALL My basses wear flats id have a tinker with the bison and threw a set of Groundwounds on her. Really opens up the growl whilst maintaining a good solid fundamental wallop to the notes. Sounded great through my little WEM Dominator. Can keep it like this or put the flats back on for any potential buyer.
  12. Further possible trade/part ex - always fancied a Fender MIM 50’s classic (sunburst only tho)

    NickCarey

Bought a set of strings from Nick. No hassle transaction and posted extremely quickly.
  14. I had an SVT and a V4B for a while, got rid and have chased the sound ever since. My current Peavey Valve amp is glorious but not quite an SVT. Ive tried any number of pedals, amps, modelers but nothing comes close. Interestingly enough the closest I DID get was actually a hybrid amp - the Mesa BB750
  15. Tempted by the grounds but I have a standard 4-in-a-row stock, couldn't measure the G could you at all please?
  16. Really digging some Blondie basslines in this lockdown. Nigel Harrisons tone in Dreaming in particular is lovely. Definitely flatwounds right?

I have not had the pleasure of seeing Blondie live and in person, but I have seen Nigel play a few times in his previous band ...Silverhead.

      Oh yeah:

Thanks for the tip.  I learned something from that.

Blondie set list, that's not a bad idea, love Clem Burke as well, rhythm section rules.

  17. Would consider part ex with cash from me for an Ampeg SVT Head (classic or SVT II at push)
  18. China I assume. Its the reissue club series.but it doesn't actually say anywhere on it where it was made
  19. very versatile. They have a hollowbody vibe to the sound too as the pups are screwed to the pickguard (removing the guard brings the whole guts out in one go), they then sit in a large cavity. Can quite easily nail the Stone Roses sound where Mani used a Ric 4005. My fave setting is 'Bass' and the 'B' setting which uses the neck and middle pup, lovely
  20. an old 57 p bass through an ampeg B15, with fkatwounds of course
  21. torn between the new burst Squier 50's P bass (single coil) or the Squier 70's P bass...hmmmmmm

    1. kodiakblair

      kodiakblair

Single coil every time, normal P-basses are ten-a-penny.

  22. 1978 Tokai P bass with flats. My go-to for everything. Best p bass ive ever played and i include vintage Fenders in that
  23. its an all valve head as such it is highly recommended the impedance matches the amps outputs which in the SVT's case is only a 4ohm or 2ohm output
  24. Played the Night & Day in Manchester years ago and we're told bass backline only was supplied, dreading an old clapped out 1x15 combo imagine my surprise to find an Ampeg SVT VR and an 8ohn 4x10. I pointed out the head cant do a single 8ohm cab they laughed and said it had done 3hr gigs pretty much every night for nearly a year! Sounded glorious
