  1. Latest GAS - EBS T90 valve head!

  2. A mid 60's precision in burst/tort/rosewood and a Ampeg B15 to go with it. Im a simple man really
  3. Tip I had was to undo one of the screws holding the ampeg logo in slightly. Get a towel/cloth round the exposed screw then use some pliers to pull it
  4. Im very much an old school tone kinda guy - p's and j's via a Origin Bassrig SV and cali76 into an old SVT non pro and always flatwounds. I like a 'just on the edge of an SVT breaking up' kind of thing. I recently purchased a gorgeous 60's Vintera II and loves its vintage spec - slab rosewood board, tall narrow frets, alder body, reverse tuners etc but am finding the pickup slightly lacking. Here come the basschat clichés but I'm not necessarily after thumpy Motown tones but that dry, woody, growly open p bass tone. The kind of thing where when you hit the low notes it goes all guttural and throaty without sounding muddy or woolly. I like the highs to be open but not brittle or harsh and most importantly i want it to be very even across all strings. If i was to give an example of the tone it would be this (i know its not everyones cup of tea)... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZvz14paUHU I suppose its kinda reminiscent of U2 - Where The Streets but with more depth and lows yet never muddy and always open sounding. Or even more so this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znoxSwzjI3A Previously I've had decent joy with Toneriders though they lacked a little 'dynamic'. Im maybe wondering if something more 'boutique' like Lollars would get me closer to my tone goal?
  5. Local to me, right by the Bolton Wanderers ground. Used them a lot for PC parts and always bang on. Last time I was in they had loads of Hughes and kettner valve amps all nicely lit up on display
  6. I have this exact cab and its is fantastic and that is coming from someone who isn't traditionally a barefaced fan! Really good cab, GLWTS
  7. The SVT III is clean with minimal breakup. The SV gives it that valvey grunt as if playing through an all valve SVT and gives much more harmonic content and more breakup
  8. Squier Mike Dirnt (Green Day) signature bass. A squier has no right to sound this good! Easily the loudest bass i have and kept a £1000 jazz bass in the rack it sounded so good live. Ive been lucky enough to get a nice old Fender P so letting this go. Only mods ive done was adding flat top knobs instead of the cheaper looking dome tops and fitted a thumb rest for comfort. If thats an issue a new guard can be had for not many pennies. Great working bass that is a real looker. Can chuck in a brand new Fender gig bag if needed
  9. Do have a fan, mines not noisy at all and im guessing its the original fan. Certainly quieter than my previous ABM
  10. I had one years ago, sold it then spent years looking for another only for one to come up in a local shop. Really nice amps, no gain knob so dont do full on dirt but a very nice open and slightly growly clean SVT tone. Also bomb proof which helps
  11. Banished to the back room whilst our living room and dining room are redecorated. My number one and number two into a cali76, a Bassrig supervintage, SVT III non pro and an early 15” barefaced compact. Always with flatwounds 👌
  12. Not much interest here so going to pull it for now and see if i can get it to work for me using my recently acquired Bassrig Super Vintage. Always like the tone of the jazz i just find my p bass sounds more 'even' across the board and i dont drop out of the mix as much as when i use the jazz. Its absolutely down to user error so i need to up my game Back up as i have a P bass incoming now. I should have sufficient packing for UK postage if needed shortly or as always meet ups are a possibility
  13. I did a deal a while back involving my MIJ 57 RI P bass and a a 75RI Jazz Bass he had. Nice genuine guy, as pointed out his prices are a little rich but has some lovely stuff
  14. Todays GAS brought to you in association with AngryWife.com - Vintera II P bass in sunburst

  15. Alas i think as with most of the 75RI’s it is 60’s spec spacing
  16. Weight is a smidge under 10lbs on the luggage scales and ill get pics of the scratch on the back asap
  17. Excellent condition japanese Fender Jazz bass. I think the 90’s japanese reissues are as close as you get to the vintage instruments but without the price tag. This one has had new pickups (originals will come with the bass also) which are the superb Tonerider pickups. Electrics were upgraded at the time too as the cheap japanese pots were noisy and the tone pot didnt seem to do much at all. It had a full setup 2 weeks ago at PSG Guitars in Bury where the current elites Groundwound strings were installed. The is one finish scratch to the back as photo’d and a few playing swirls here and there. I dont believe the pickguard is original to the bass as its needs a tiny bit if fettling round the bell plate to sit fully flush. Finally that is a real genuine 70’s bridge cover. Only reason for selling is my p basses are getting more action and i have a rickenbacker itch i want to scratch. Can be seen, tested and played here in Bolton. **Postage is possible within UK as i do have a packing box but no case. Would be well packed though** Would consider a part ex with cash my way for a black Dirnt sig bass (ideally fender but would consider the Squier)
  18. Todays GAS - Fender Mike Dirnt Sig in Black

  19. Aw man, how did i miss this! Lovely bass
  20. One of my all time "want to try" amps!
  21. Sorry all for the long absence, life threw a curve ball.  Back and good now tho so will get through my notifications and PMs over the next day or two.  Good to be back! :)

      Welcome back!

  22. Origin Effects - either Super Vintage or Blackface a nice Precision Cheapo Ampeg PF350 for backup
  23. I recently purchased an Ampeg SVT III Non Pro (hybrid - valve pre, solid state power) and noticed when trying to date it using the serial number that it was made for the European market at 220v. Is it safe to use this in the UK without modification or step down transformers? A google search varies from 'its fine' to 'your house will set on fire and burn all your loved ones alive'! I did notice that the 12AX7's get particularly hot compared to other hybrids I've had but some suggest these old Ampegs apply real life voltage to their pre's so that may explain that
