  1. Price drop to £675 collected from Bolton. I would only get this on ebay anyway after fee's and stuff. Trials still very much welcome
  2. Cheers mate, it does go really well with the 115. very 'full' sound that seems to fill the entire room without being boomy. Works particularly well with my flats loaded Jack Casady bass
  3. Mesa Boogie Bottle Rocket Valve Overdrive Pedal. Originally came with 2 x MESA 12AX7's but I found replacing the 2nd valve with a 12AU7 gave a much more usuable and reasonably transparent bass OD. Plus, with the right settings I have used it as an always-on pre-amp type pedal to add a little hair when digging in. On this setting (and with the 12AU7) ive found it adds hair/grit to higher notes and maintains the lower notes almost clean. Certainly no worries of low end loss here. Has Velcro on bottom and is missing original feet. Easily sourced if needed Comes with uber long power supply. I prefer collection from Bolton or local meet up delivery but could arrange delivery if absolutely necessary. Trials welcome and will supply it either in its original 2 x 12AX7 setup or the 1 x 12AX7 and 1 x 12AU7 version, your choice. On ebay at £120 - BC price £100. Pics to follow
  4. USA made Ampeg V4BH 100w all valve amp - basically a V4B in an SVT's clothes. Bought in December 2016 after it had had a full service and Revalve - there is a sticker inside the wooden casing that gives an exact date, will dig a pic out. The 4 x 6L6GC's are all JJ and from what I remember the pre-amp and driver valves are all TAD - the valve set up is:- 2 x 12AX7 - Pre amp 1 x 12AU7 - Driver Valve 1 x 12AX7 - Driver Valve 4 x 6L6GC - Power Valves A full revalve would not bust the bank (not that it needs it anyway) Never given me a second of trouble having been regularly rehearsed (1 x 3hr/4hr sessions a week) and comes with fitted Roqsolid cover. Weight aside the other big advantage over an SVT is its ability to safely run at 8ohms. I initially used this paired with an Ampeg 410he but recently downsized to an Ampeg 1x15 (which itself may be up for sale soon or could be factored in to a deal here). Never wanted for more volume, I recently run it with master on full then gain to taste so I got a little of that lovely power valve breakup without blowing windows out. Trials very much welcome with your cab/gear or mine. The amp is based in Bolton and im reluctant to post at this stage. I do get around a little bit so if you are reasonably local then give me a shout and maybe we can arrange a delivery or meet up. Do fairly regularly get down to Birmingham to watch my beloved Aston Villa (please forgive me) so again something could be arranged around that. On ebay at £750 so a basschat discount to £700 £675 seems fair. This sale is to fund an amp ive seen so could be pulled if that goes first. Pics to follow asap.
  5. Last rehearsal tonight with my trusted Ampeg V4BH possibly before it goes up for sale.  Been trying to resist GAS but seems to have got me this time

Nooo! I've just withdrawn mine because of reverse GAS: GRS (Gear Retention Syndrome), love it!

  6. Cheers for the replies. Good to hear its not necessarily the pickup! It could do with a good set up soon anyway so will book it in for a fettle and see if he's shield the cavity while its in too. Might even treat it to one of them tonestyler tone pots
  7. Funnily enough, ive been considering a Big Block to replace my V4BH after hearing Mani's tone on the recent Roses reunion gigs. If this was closer id be tempted
  8. My p bass has always has a slight shielding issue that ive just never got round to sorting. Its just the usual mild hiss/hum that disappears when any of the metal components like the bridge or strings are touched. However, the other day whilst finally replacing some old flatwounds I noticed somwthing weird. When I touch any of the metal polepieces on the bass side pickup the hum went away just like when you touch the bridge or strings) but touching the treble side pole pieces actually amplified the noise! Does this mean there is possibly something wrong with my pups (Alex Pribora handwound efforts) or just something that good shielding and checking the bridge/earth wire will sort?
  9. Epiphone Casady bass with flatwounds through a big ol' valve amp.  Beautiful!!!!!

Very, very nice. The best live sound I've ever had in 40-odd years is still a 76 P-Bass through an Ampeg SVT-CL and an 8X10. You can't go wrong with that rig... until you try to move it. :|

  10. Sold Ben my DHA Valve pedal in an effortlessly smooth transaction. Nae danger here
  11. See on this pic the far right hand valve looks inaccessible to me. Don't know if its the angle but the black overhanging 'amp shell' seems to be blocking it in?
  12. I really quite fancy trying a R-400. The only thing stopping me is the apparent inability to change all but one of the valves. The design (on pics) seems to suggest 2 of the valves are inaccessible due to the chassis overhanging on top of the valves. A for sale ad on Talkbass from an owner further backs this up. Has anyone with a R-400 got a guts shot of the valves in particular?
  13. As some on here know ive been jonesing after the live tone Mani gets on the earlier Stone Roses reunion shows. I have a Jack Casady bass that is currently strung with flats going into an Ampeg V4B into an Ampeg 1x15 cab. The sound he gets im pretty sure is using flats as per this vid:- https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjpwc-F-bbZAhVHF8AKHab1ArMQyCkIKTAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DjRswxxT3HQ8&usg=AOvVaw3LLrQMYGpNZZjWUCEOUJlB On the bass Centre website it says he uses their Groundwounds from 2016. His tone at the Etihad is very similar to the above but I know they are quite flat sounding strings for non-flatwounds so I defo think the heaton park clip above is done with full on flatwounds. I know he goes through a hybrid Mesa Big Block 750 into 4x12's but his sound is very 'all valve' to me. Slight crunch and a little sag almost - is this typical of a Big Block 750? Are there other hybrid type amps that will get this i.e Genz Streamliner, Bugera Veyron, Ampeg SVT 7pro, Handbox R-400, Orange Bass Terror etc etc? Any help much appreciated before I blow a load of money on the mesa 2x12 on here then seek a Big Block
  14. NEW PEDAL INCOMING!!! Mesa Bottle Rocket en route!

  15. BOSS BD2 BLUESDRIVER - £50 https://www.boss.info/us/products/bd-2/ Whilst it is commonly accepted as a guitar pedal ive found it more than usable on bass. I used it for two songs in our old set – Chelsea Dagger and Substitute by The Who. It gives a nice snarling type tone with a little low end loss but certainly nothing too major. Again this has Velcro on the bottom and a few paint chips but works 100%. Price is collected from sunny Bolton but can arrange local deliver or postage within UK at buyers cost
  16. DHA VT1 BASS DRIVE - £50 http://www.davehallamps.co.uk/VT1-Bass-Drive.pdf I used this as an ‘always on’ effect to add a touch of hair and beef to my sound when using solid state amps.. Quite responsive to digging in and also valve rolling. It will come with the orginal EHX 12AX7 in it as well as the original power supply. Has a hand written made date on of ‘Feb 2012’. Works perfectly and kept on my pedal board so no dings/dents or anything. Has Velcro on the bottom. Price is collected from Bolton (work in Manchester city centre so could work something there). Could ship in UK at buyers cost. Pics to follow ASAP
  17. Played through one of these last night! If you were closer this would be mine! GLWTS
  18. Someone on here PM'd me a while back (before the site upgrade) about an old Ampeg 2x12.  The PM is missing now but if the person reads this could get in touch please?

  19. Oooh, thanks for this info. Have missed the halfrounds since they ran out of long scale, might order a medium set and see how I get on!
