Bought Martins Mesa BB750 in an effortlessly smooth transaction. He hand delivered it and we have a good gear chat over a brew. Pleasure to deal with
  5. A Squier P Bass, set up to my liking with my usual flatwounds? Nae problem
  6. SOLD ONT T'EBAY
  7. when I hear the old 70's woody but slightly fuzzy bass lines its not effects I think of its a combination of valves amps and inefficient speakers. Kinda that tone Blondie get on Dreaming? Just screams valve amp to me
  8. Cranked valve amp?
  9. Brand new, unused and still in sealed pack of Fender 9050L flatwounds. Come in new style White box that seems to have replaced the green Fender boxes. Bought a load of flats and settled on a set of more old school/thumpy ones so these are up for grabs. £20 includes postage to your UK door
  10. Anyone in here got any experience with Maruszczyk's standard issue flatwounds?
  11. Anyone got any experience with Maruszczyk's standard OEM flatwounds?

  12. Cheers Martin, DEFINITELY much lighter than a full fat SVT and the 8ohm option, in my opinion, makes it a lot more user friendly for those not playing the O2 arena anytime soon
  13. Had about 5mins on my P bass. Cut the E slightly, the rest are all uncut but have been fitted to a 4-in-row headstock. Bought as NOS off ebay but a bit TOO oldschool for me. Some say they are re-badged GHS Precision Flats. 106-45 gauge, longscale Black silk at tuner end, bare at the bridge end. Price includes P&P in UK
  14. Do old schol thumpy type flats (i.e not Fender/D'Addario bright types) without a completely dead E string exist????

@discreet seriously funky playing Sir! What was the HB PB-50 mod...?

@Kevsy71 Thanks... that one (v2.0) was just a headstock reshape and a Herrick Alnico Tele 51 pickup upgrade. My most recent one (v3.0) has a Herrick Neo pup, a two-saddle through-body bridge, Wilkinson tuners and a refin in shoreline gold  https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/319730-hb-pb-50-modded-version-30/  and is also strung with 9050M.

  15. Price drop to £675 collected from Bolton. I would only get this on ebay anyway after fee's and stuff. Trials still very much welcome
  16. SOLD ONT BAY
  17. Cheers mate, it does go really well with the 115. very 'full' sound that seems to fill the entire room without being boomy. Works particularly well with my flats loaded Jack Casady bass
  18. Mesa Boogie Bottle Rocket Valve Overdrive Pedal. Originally came with 2 x MESA 12AX7's but I found replacing the 2nd valve with a 12AU7 gave a much more usuable and reasonably transparent bass OD. Plus, with the right settings I have used it as an always-on pre-amp type pedal to add a little hair when digging in. On this setting (and with the 12AU7) ive found it adds hair/grit to higher notes and maintains the lower notes almost clean. Certainly no worries of low end loss here. Has Velcro on bottom and is missing original feet. Easily sourced if needed Comes with uber long power supply. I prefer collection from Bolton or local meet up delivery but could arrange delivery if absolutely necessary. Trials welcome and will supply it either in its original 2 x 12AX7 setup or the 1 x 12AX7 and 1 x 12AU7 version, your choice. On ebay at £120 - BC price £100. Pics to follow
  19. USA made Ampeg V4BH 100w all valve amp - basically a V4B in an SVT's clothes. Bought in December 2016 after it had had a full service and Revalve - there is a sticker inside the wooden casing that gives an exact date, will dig a pic out. The 4 x 6L6GC's are all JJ and from what I remember the pre-amp and driver valves are all TAD - the valve set up is:- 2 x 12AX7 - Pre amp 1 x 12AU7 - Driver Valve 1 x 12AX7 - Driver Valve 4 x 6L6GC - Power Valves A full revalve would not bust the bank (not that it needs it anyway) Never given me a second of trouble having been regularly rehearsed (1 x 3hr/4hr sessions a week) and comes with fitted Roqsolid cover. Weight aside the other big advantage over an SVT is its ability to safely run at 8ohms. I initially used this paired with an Ampeg 410he but recently downsized to an Ampeg 1x15 (which itself may be up for sale soon or could be factored in to a deal here). Never wanted for more volume, I recently run it with master on full then gain to taste so I got a little of that lovely power valve breakup without blowing windows out. Trials very much welcome with your cab/gear or mine. The amp is based in Bolton and im reluctant to post at this stage. I do get around a little bit so if you are reasonably local then give me a shout and maybe we can arrange a delivery or meet up. Do fairly regularly get down to Birmingham to watch my beloved Aston Villa (please forgive me) so again something could be arranged around that. On ebay at £750 so a basschat discount to £700 £675 seems fair. This sale is to fund an amp ive seen so could be pulled if that goes first. Pics to follow asap.
  20. Last rehearsal tonight with my trusted Ampeg V4BH possibly before it goes up for sale.  Been trying to resist GAS but seems to have got me this time

Nooo! I've just withdrawn mine because of reverse GAS: GRS (Gear Retention Syndrome), love it!

  21. Cheers for the replies. Good to hear its not necessarily the pickup! It could do with a good set up soon anyway so will book it in for a fettle and see if he's shield the cavity while its in too. Might even treat it to one of them tonestyler tone pots
  22. Funnily enough, ive been considering a Big Block to replace my V4BH after hearing Mani's tone on the recent Roses reunion gigs. If this was closer id be tempted
  23. My p bass has always has a slight shielding issue that ive just never got round to sorting. Its just the usual mild hiss/hum that disappears when any of the metal components like the bridge or strings are touched. However, the other day whilst finally replacing some old flatwounds I noticed somwthing weird. When I touch any of the metal polepieces on the bass side pickup the hum went away just like when you touch the bridge or strings) but touching the treble side pole pieces actually amplified the noise! Does this mean there is possibly something wrong with my pups (Alex Pribora handwound efforts) or just something that good shielding and checking the bridge/earth wire will sort?
  24. Epiphone Casady bass with flatwounds through a big ol' valve amp.  Beautiful!!!!!

Very, very nice. The best live sound I've ever had in 40-odd years is still a 76 P-Bass through an Ampeg SVT-CL and an 8X10. You can't go wrong with that rig... until you try to move it. :|
