  1. As a baked-in Ampeg Valve fan boy I was really taken aback by the sound Mani got on the Roses tour a few years back. He was using a Big Block 750 through what I assume was an 8x10 and had a very thick, beefy and valvey type tone. Enough for me to consider replacing my V4B with one, resisted so far tho
  2. anyone here snag the £750 Ampeg B15 on ebay?  Looked in a bad way but at that price you would have plenty of breathing space to do it up within what a B15 is worth

  3. excellent amps, was my main amp for years!
  4. A trip to Birmingham in a few weeks so could potentially help out if anyone that way fancies?
  5. Old USA made Ampeg 410he - 8ohm 500w handling, adjustable horn Have replaced one driver with a genuine and spec correct Ampeg replacement (original also included in sale - slight tear to the concertina part). Have replaced the castor sockets with much better after market ones (the original ampeg ones were made of cheese! No mods required, like-for-like replacement). Castors work as should and help when rolling on solid ground into venues. Has several tears in the tolex and is what one would call 'road worn'. Works perfectly though and has a big beefy plumb of a thump to it with a valve amp and flats loaded P bass. Pictures to follow asap. On ebay for £225 so basschat discount to £200. Collection only from Bolton please or can deliver in reasonable distance for diesel money.
  6. That moment you see some gear you want but have to shift old gear first and it just doesn't seem to sell.  Keep checking on the gear I want to make sure its still available aaaarrrrgggghhhhh

Pow....that's been my life story, mate...you forgot to mention how when you have the cash, nobody wants to sell...

'When you have the cash'... nope, don't understand that at all. :D

Buy it. Then the lack of cash will focus the mind beautifully on rooting out and selling everything you haven't used for years....

  7. The last rehearsal with my Ampeg V4BH before it goes up for sale to fund my latest bout of GAS :(

Eeek! You're going to miss that, for sure. Bad time of year for me to be buying stuff otherwise I'd have that particular goodie. How about I take it as a gift in the spirit of the season..? :D

Oh no. GAS strikes again! What have you got GAS for now Pow_22?

Ooh I love mine. Perfect with a P and a Greenboy Dually :)

  8. Played through the rehearsal spaces ancient Peavey TKO 1x15 combo last night.  With my flats loaded P bass and a DHA Bass Drive pre-amp it sounded bloody wonderful!!

I had one of these as my first serious amp beyond my bedroom practise thing.

They're great - they are massively heavy, but even the old thrashed Peavey stuff i've come across in rehearsal rooms usually are capable of sounding half decent!

Hellfire !! Those weigh nothing. My recently lightened toolbelt weighs 16Kg

  9. Id go with Lozz's Ashdown 410. Im not a fan of Barefaced (never tried their 410 however) for the 'warm vintage' tone, I find the ones ive tried (a single 12" effort a few years ago, a 2x12 one around a year ago and more recently their 2x10 horizontal effort) always seem to have a nasally/honkey mid and an ice picky treble. I always find my Ampeg 410he provides bags of warmth and vintage thump with my v4BH 100w valve amp
  10. Yup, I had the YBA200 and loved it. Enjoy!
  11. cool, thanks for the reply. Im currently on TAD's but looking for something with a bit more 'bite'. Ive messed around with the pre-amp valve and got a nice growl coming from them (some old Mazda ECC83's). Im very tempted by the new TungSol 7581a's. Will let you know what I go for!. Nice amp BTW, love a bit of vintage valve
  12. Let me know what you think of the JJ 6L6's VTypeV4. My ampeg v4BH is due a re valve soon and as you say the amount of 6l6GC's and other variants available is very confusing!

Bought some halfrounds off Mark in an effortlessly smooth transaction. Nae danger here
  14. I still think its really quite naughty of ashdown to list the CTM15 as all valve, puts me off buying one to be honest. I don't like companies who lie
  15. Desperately trying to find a drive pedal to get me that tone in The Fratellis song Halloween Blues! What a tone!

Ive studied his gear in a bit of a geeky way.  Obviously I don't know studio wise but generally he uses a flats loaded P bass through an Ampeg valve rig.  I would guess there is a few thousand pound worth of studio gear that is certainly helping :)

Let's forget the studio gear! I reckon some time spent with a VT Bass would be well spent. In my opinion it does that SVT thing really well. And it doesn't even have any valves in it. ;)

    4. Lozz196

      Lozz196

Yep, VT Bass is the daddy for replicating trusty Ampeg tones.

  16. EXH Russian Big Muff – the very recent reissue of the original Bubble Font green muffs. Had about 3hrs use, never gigged and kept in a pedal board case. Have removed the feet and applied Velcro but no dings, scratches etc. Comes with original box. Pics to follow asap. Collection from Bolton preferred or can post at cost. Current band needs something more drivey/tubey and less fuzzy so will accept Trades/Part Ex for Tech 21 VT Character Series pedal or Catalinbread SFT
  17. Mani selling off a load of gear at Hanks on Denmark street.  Love that Ric 4005 but over £3k for an Epi Jack Casady just as it was his?!?!?!

I guess he doesn't need it now Roses have finished again - unless Ian Brown has another messy divorce!

    3. GazWills

      GazWills

haha - i imagine he's already spunked the £2 million advance for the reunion gigs and needs to sell them for petty cash...

    4. Duroc17

      Duroc17

yes apparently he didnt know the advance was going in and went for some milk, went to an ATM, saw the cash and then went on a 3 day party!

  18. Yup, the lightweight gear just doesn't do it for me, particularly the cabs. Each to their own I guess
  19. Hmmm, do I sell my Ampeg V4B to fund a Mesa BB 750? o.O

    1. discreet

No! You'll regret it. Maybe not now, maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life...

    2. charic

      charic

That's a difficult one, sounds like you would need to A/B them first!

    3. discreet

      discreet

Probably best. Haven't heard the Mesa, but it's going to have to go some to sound better than a V4B. In my humble opinion, of course. :)

  20. I know their flats were re-badged GHS Precision flats so whether GHS makes their rounds too?
