Has anyone gone from lightweight back to heavy?
Pow_22 replied to AndyTravis's topic in Amps and Cabs
Yup – always loved big valve amps (sound city 200, 120, Bassman 135, SVT’s, VBA400, Traynor YBA200, Ashdown Drophead 200) then for some reason decided to try going lightweight. Head wise I went through Orange Bass Terror (which I actually really liked), TB RH450, TC BH250, Ashdown LB550, Ampeg portaflex 350 – none of them did what I wanted. Cab wise I went through an Ashdown VS212, a Barefaced 1 x 12, an Ashdown neo 4x8, TC 2x12 – didn’t like any of them (the VS212 wasn’t terrible). Now im back to a good old SVT, V4BH and an Ampeg 410he – back to being happy with my tone -
I would suggest the Orange Bass terror too. Im a bit of an all valve snob but the OBT is one of the only hyrbirds ive tried/heard that really did it for me

Gave this a good blast last night at the studio and as is always the case when I put gear up for sale, it sounded monumental. Traynor YBA200 all valve bass amp. This has been professionally upgraded to the YBA200-2 specs by Mike Powell @ MPA Service following help from Darren Butt at Yorkville which bypasses the supposed self bias system that caused issues on several units. Part of the upgrade also is to replace/upgrade the standard issue 6550’s with JJ KT88’s. The amp has never given me an ounce of trouble and, being quite rare for a valve amp as it uses a toroidal transformer – it weighs less than my old Ashdown ABM!. No dings, scuffs, knocks or bumps and comes with fitted Roqsolid dust cover. Now the difficult bit – describing the sound. I play it through an Ampeg 410he with a flats loaded P bass. The sound is thick and meaty without being boomy (the Resonance control is excellent for that). It does break up when pushed and I play just on the edge of this. Never EVER ran out of headroom playing in medium sized clubs without PA support. The amp works with 8ohm or 4ohm cabs with its impedance selector switch. Im looking for £500 collected from Bolton (have it at a higher price on eBay) or could deliver within reasonable distance. Comes with the Roqsolid cover, 3mth old JJ KT88’s and given the overall great condition I think it’s a reasonable price for a light 200w all valve amp. Trials welcome. My Photobucket account is playing up so will need to email pics to any potential buyers. Traynor YBA200? Even as a 200w all valve effort they use torodial transformers so keeps the weight down. Probably weights the same as a sleeved Ashdown ABM -

Afternoon all, im looking to get my Ampeg 10" driver reconed following some buzzing and farting last night. On closer inspection the speaker cone in the concertina part has a split in it. Ive seen the eminence B810's as a replacement but was wondering if a recone would be cheaper

Bought a jazz bass bridge cover off David in an effortlessly smooth transaction with stupidly quick postage! Nae danger here

Yes. It seems part of the chassis overhang is in the way so to change 2 of the 3 valves would mean taking the PCB out?

Do such things as a lower profile P bass bridge covers exist? My PB70 has the chrome pup and bridge cover but recently ive noticed the original vintage ones seem to be much lower profile. My pup cover is fine but my bridge cover (genuine Fender) seems to protrude quite a bit above the bridge. Ideally id like something with much less height but as this is a genuine fender one (reissue obviously) is there anything else out there bar a genuine vintage one?
